Andrew Luck must be convinced that the NFL's going dark next season, because he's staying at Stanford.

What a mistake! Dude has got to strike while the iron is hot. Look as quarterbacks in the past who've elected to stay in school, only to fall off the radar (Jake Locker at Washington comes to mind right away.) Luck will be losing millions by doing this. Harbaugh will be gone, and Stanford will go back to being 'Stanford'. His stock is guaranteed to take a nosedive.

Contrary to what you think. Some people go to school to get an education and have something to fall back on. But really comparing him to Jake Locker who was never really good in the first place is a mistake. Jake Locker is closer to Rick Mier, than an NFL QB. And think about how many millions Bradford lost going back to school and missing practically an entire season last year... oops that's right he was the #1 pick. How much money did he lose? Besides, it might be better for Luck to fall in the draft and lose millions to be on a team that is just missing one part, the quarterback. Who cares how much money he makes, it's about the Vince Lombardi trophy, not about millions... unless your name is Chad Ochocinco or Terrell Owens or Randy Moss or Albert Haynesworth.

The counter-argument is: the school isn't going anywhere and neither are your credits. You get one bad hit and your shot at the league may be gone forever. You can still get a degree on one leg. Much harder to play QB in the NFL on one leg.

Not if you're a student-ATHLETE with an oppertunity to cash in for tens of of millions. Luck wouldn't have to work another day in his life (use his 'education') had he inked that fat rookie contract.

But really comparing him to Jake Locker who was never really good in the first place is a mistake. Jake Locker is closer to Rick Mier, than an NFL QB.

Accoring to many experts, Jake Locker would've been the #1 overall pick last year had he declared for the Draft. Instead, he's looking at 3rd round this year. That's a massive pay cut. How is he closer to Rick Mirer?? He cashed in as a top two pick.

And think about how many millions Bradford lost going back to school and missing practically an entire season last year... oops that's right he was the #1 pick. How much money did he lose?

Have you forgotten? Bradford stayed in school because he got all busted up at the end of his junior year. His stock was at an all-time low. He had nothing to lose by going back for his senior season.

Besides, it might be better for Luck to fall in the draft and lose millions to be on a team that is just missing one part, the quarterback.

Not if you're interested in, umm, MONEY.

Who cares how much money he makes, it's about the Vince Lombardi trophy, not about millions... unless your name is Chad Ochocinco or Terrell Owens or Randy Moss or Albert Haynesworth.

Can't win that risking injury with the Stanford Cardinal.

Maybe he stayed because he realized that he was going to be drafted by Carolina...

Actually Bradford was the favorite for the top spot when he went back for another round. Granted this is a moot point since he made something like $7 million more just sitting on his ass and waiting for the even higher round of retarded contracts in the next draft.

The Elways and Mannings have proven that if you are a #1 selection as QB, you are able to dictate where you play. His dad worked for the NFL, so they could do the same thing if they wanted to. Regardless of draft, if you are #1 overall, chances are you are not going to a playoff team with an experienced OL from the start of OTAs.

The Panthers now ought to pick a good defensive player or try to swing a trade for Vince Young.

The Carolina defense wasn't that bad, really. It's just that the Panthers offense put them in so many bad situations this year.

And if Tennessee's already announced that Vince Young won't be coming back, why trade anything of value when you can get him later on for nothing?

Great. FOX sucks at doing college football games.

My favorite ever college football broadcast was the Boise State/Oklahoma game. It being a good game helped, but Fox's announcing team that night (I forget who) was really good.

I don't watch enough college football to have a more in-depth opinion than that, but given that most broadcasted NCAA games are ESPN or CBS, it's nice to see different graphics packages during bowl season.

As much as I bash everything else the "worldwide leader" does, I think they do college football better than anyone. CBS does a great job too. Trust me, you got lucky with the Boise State/Oklahoma game.

Let's not get carried away... the Luck's are not the Elway's or the Manning's. Oliver Luck had more success as management in the MLS than he did playing football and working with NFL Europe. I don't think this family has as much influence as the others. If he had entered the draft, he'd be in Carolina.

Agreed. If there's anything ESPN does right (besides the World Cup), it's college sports

More fun with Hoke for the Michiganders:

When asked recently about the influence of Oregon?s offense, Hoke subtly revealed his disdain for the tactical shift Michigan experienced under Rodriguez. He is convinced that modern spread option offenses can be counterproductive to the core values of smashmouth football and are, therefore, to be avoided.

?Right, wrong or indifferent, when you?re zone blocking all the time -- when you?re playing basketball on grass -- you practice against that all spring, you practice against it all fall and then you?re going to play a two-back team that wants to knock you off the football,? Hoke said. ?I don?t think you?re prepared.

?I think there?s a toughness level (required in college football). I still believe you win with defense. That?s been beaten into my head a long time, but I really believe that. The toughness of your team has to be the offensive front and your defensive front.?

Have fun keeping Denard folks.

I don't what see why anyone is freaking out that Andrew Luck is staying in college. How does his staying in school affect any of you?

I'm sure he has evaluated his decision enough to be comfortable with whatever happens in his senior year. God forbid a student-athlete enjoys school and wants to get his degree before the brain trauma that could follow an NFL career sets in.

As a modest point of order, brain trauma also follows college football careers.

The thing is that it's not the right monetary decision. He's going to be the #1 pick and with the guranteed money, he won't need a degree to fall back on if he blows out both knees on day 1. But apparently Luck likes the college life enough that the potential to fall in the draft and/or be affected by a new rookie pay scale doesn't outweigh what he'd be missing in his next year (or two if he wants) years of college. I'm not gonna rip on Luck for passing up the draft this year because he clearly thought through this decision a lot considering he's going the way pretty much nobody thought he'd take.

Luck is being smart IMO. There is a possibility that the ONLY football next season will be college ball, so at least he's staying in the game. Plus, it's not like he's passing up the NFL for that prestigious Florida State degree, he's gonna get his piece of paper that dictates many of our lives from Stanford, one of the top rated schools in the country.

Regardless of the education he is receiving, a factor which he does not have to honestly deal with is that his family does not desperately need the money which other players, regardless of race, may have in which they elect to declare for the draft even with a 3rd round grade.

The degree is going to be there, but the opportunity to #1 overall still may not be there.

Brian Billick (kidding) today, "I respect his decision, however, I really question his intelligence. I want to see that Stanford diploma with his name on it...I guarantee it's not in economics!"

The story says the network will pay around $14.5 million for the game (and $25 million total including some other obligations), which will be held Dec. 3 at and will pit the winner of the North Division (UW, WSU, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal and Stanford) against the winner of the South (the other six schools) at the site of the team with the best record.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)
