MLB Changes 2015

Are the Blue Jays still selling the white-paneled caps they were wearing earlier this season, I think as a promo? I can't find it anywhere on their store. I have the white-paneled ASG 2014 variant, but it's not quite the same.

The original and follow up shipments sold out in a few days, and I haven't heard anything about additional shipments. I had to check the Jays Shop every day one week to get my 7 1/4 before they sold out again.

And like the Post Season hat, it was made in the USA :flagusa:

Wait... so a Canadian team.... is using a hat made in the U.S. ... for a celebration of America's pastime? :unclesam::smileyusa::flagusa:

An excellent point.

I have a terrible feeling that the Brewers will finally win the World Series wearing their current garbage, enshrining it forever.

Well, winning the pennant in 1984 didn't save the great Padres' uniforms of that season; and I doubt that anything would have been different if they had won the World Series. And the Rams' win in the Super Bowl after the 1999 season didn't save that team's beautiful uniform.

So, if, by some fortunate chance, the Brewers have a change of uniform in the planning stage, a pennant or World Championship probably wouldn't alter the plans.

What great uniforms did the Padres wear in 1984? All I remember are these:

I like brown as an option for the friars but I can't get the love for these at all...

Now that the Brewers are in complete rebuilding mode, now would be the time for a fresh change in uniform. I believe Braun, Lucroy and Maldonado are the only carryovers left from the last playoff team. The problem I see is because of their association with Miller, I can't see them ever getting rid of the M they use.

Was looking at Eastbay.com and noticed that they have all their Diamond Era hats aka batting practice hats on sale for $19.99. Does this mean new batting practice hats for every team next season?

Perhaps BP hats are going back to 39thirty (as I've seen more and more players prefer the low crown)?

Either that, or significant changes, I think.

Note that Fanatics still won't discount on-field MLB hats.

Well, that shouldn't be a problem, then, since their "M" only resembles the Miller logo in the most cursory and superficial of ways.

The 1984 Padres should not have been using a brown jersey on the road. The road uni should have been a grey version of the home uni.

But that home uniform was perfection.

(In that last one, it's amazing to realise that the wacky expansion Padres in their beautiful home whites look more dignified than the venerable Tigers in their embarrassing pullover/beltless road uniform.)

That was the last time the Padres really looked like the Padres. Even with the flawed road version, this set defines the team.

The fact that they dumped this uniform right after it had been shown to the whole country for weeks as the team reached its high point is as astounding from a branding standpoint as it is sad from an aesthetic standpoint.

I really hope they do. I, frankly, just do not find 5950 comfortable at all. It's like a bucket on my head. The 3930, by contrast, I can wear all day long and not even feel them, and I prefer the curved brim. My favorite New Era collection at the moment is the 3930 Classic... it's the on-field 5950 MLB caps, but on a 3930 instead.

I've not worn or even seen a low crown 5950, but I assume it fits more like a 3930?

Low-crowns are pretty nice except for the inconsistent sizes. Haven't bought a 3930 yet (one is on the way), but 3930s are stretch-fit, so they reduce the risk of wrong-fit error. High-crown and low-crown 5950s still have oddly-large brims.

There's absolutely no way that they're scrapping the 59Fifty BP caps already. They've poured too much money into producing them, and make too much revenue in return to simply scrap the whole Diamond Era program this early into it's lifespan.

My guess is they're actually going to do even more with the Diamond Era BP caps. They had a lot of structural issues with the initial run of certain BP caps in particular colors (for example, the material they use for the A's green and Pirates alternate mustard BP caps is substandard compared to more common colored caps), and I get the feeling they're going to redesign a few things to strengthen the material and get it more consistent across their entire color palate.

EDIT: I just picked up a bit of a weird rumor. Apparently all 30 teams will be getting new DE caps and they'll be tied into the new BP jerseys. Also, there will be two big rebrands for next year. Sounds like one is going to be the Padres, but I have no idea who the other team is.

I'm not saying they're scrapping Diamond Era technology. I just wouldn't be surprised if they went to 3930 Diamond Era BP hats instead of 5950s.

I would be surprised if they scrapped the 5950 option. I know that during the last run of 5930 BP caps, almost everyone on the Cardinals wore the red home cap during BP because they preferred it over the 5930 cap.

I also think it comes down to personal preference. I only wear 5950s or their Nike equivalent because 5930s and '47 brand caps don't fit me comfortably. I also think the low crown 5950s are New Era's attempt to bridge the gap between regular 5950s and 5930s.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a redesign of the BP caps since they've had the same (and often very good) logos for the past few years. Personally I'd like to see more Cooperstown-ish logo options like the Braves, Pirates, Brewers, and White Sox have.

There's no such thing as a 5930 :P Though I didn't know the Cardinals didn't like the old 3930 BP hats.

The texture. Easily identifiable on HD, whereas the transition from wool to poly was seamless.

I was saying I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to more mid or low-crown for BP hats. The texture (diamond mesh) will likely remain the same.

  • 3 weeks later...

I would be. They look radically different, and that's the one thing New Era and MLB avoided when they switched from wool to poly.

Plus the logos look awful, though that could be fixed.

Depends on the team honestly. I have one from the Bisons and it's the normal looking logo. Pirates and Orioles though, blech
