Las Vegas Lights

Short, open-ended, sounds like Knights, references the unique city without anything negative.

I like Las Vegas Knight Lights.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Why can't they be named "KNIGHTS" and leave it like that?

The Hunter's and the rest of the London Knights organization made it clear that they would do everything they can to protect the name of their team.  They have a lot of clout in hockey.

So $5 million and everything's peachy?

Yeah, not really a PC issue, it's more about just wanting to distance themselves from all appearance of gambling.

I think Aces is the best bet, but accept that it isn't happening. Unfortunately, the AHL beat them to the punch on two good, albeit lengthy, options, this off-season: Thunderbirds and Roadrunners.

Some version of Wranglers/Outlaws has been done so many times in Vegas, I'm not surprised they're shying away.

A four word team name just strikes me as a bad call. Whether you consider a compound word to be as bad is a toss up, but I'd take it.

Overall, I just really worry that they're going to screw the pooch on what could and should have been one of the most unique and interesting identities in major pro sports. Some of it's on the League, but most of it belongs at Foley's feet. Every Vegas-area hockey fan I know is dreading the name reveal, something that never should have been allowed to happen.

WHL and Seattle beat them to the punch back in '85 for the Thunderbird name.

Lights vs Lightning would sound great.

i think I did a logo for Las Vegas Purple Aces for someone on these boards. I'm sure there's been roughly a million Las Vegas Aces teams, just fictitious teams made up by fans or in "fantasy expansion" concepts. I'm sure at least one jackass would Claim that the team stole the concept from him.

While it's not very creative, I do like the name and prefer it to the other options.

That was so long ago, plus a different market. Thunderbirds was just announced by the AHL, the league's premiere development tool. There's a much different weight given to the two situations.

Thunder Bay Lynx - International Hockey Association (2 seasons, 2017-18, 2019-20, 2018 Xtreme Cup Champions)Houston Armadillos - Major League Hockey (2 seasons, 2016-18) | Minnesota Muskies - North American Basketball Association (1 season, 2017-2018) | Louisville Thoroughbreds - United League of Baseball (1 season, 2017, 2017 United Cup Champions) | Las Vegas Thunderbirds - International Basketball League (1 season, 2016-17, 2017 Champions)

"Las Vegas Golden Knights" sounds like a poor man's version of the "Thunder from Down Under" male review.

Nevada is the Silver State for cripe's sake, go with that if you MUST have a color adjective on your stupid name.

Foley reminds me of when my 60 year old father starting playing fantasy football and renamed his team 36 times in the first 3 weeks, all of them increasingly worse.

How about just Las Vegas Hockey Club?  Seriously, if Foley can't name the team Black Knights or just Knights, he needs to get off that train and come up with something else.  All those other "Knights" names are just bad.  How about Las Vegas Bluebirds after the state bird?

The perfect name has been there all along.  Las Vegas Aces!  Shame things have become so politically correct that it can't happen...

Knights is looking like the best viable option.

I'm not sure how not wanting to share a name with another pro team in Vegas' only in-state rival city is a PC issue.

Aces is the best choice if they can't go with Knights.  I feel it is more than possible to use the name without referencing gambling at all, especially if the logo makes it clear that it has nothing to do with gambling.  When Reebok was rolling out the edge makeover, there were a few Canucks' logo concepts.  One of them was of an alternate version of Johnny Canuck, where he was a pilot.  It was a very nice logo and something similar could be used for Aces, as in flying aces.

Correct but I was referring to how the CHL's London Knights are blocking  NHL Vegas from using Knights so why wouldn't the Seattle Tbirds block them from using their name. Pretty certain Seattle Tbirds aren't concerned about another regional team in Springfield using their name but it would probably be another story if a national brand like NHL Las Vegas took the name.

Las Vegas Silverbacks - ties in to the "Silver City" theme, but adds some unique imagery..

Still fond of Las Vegas Jokers as well.. I know it's loosely tied to gambling, being a card and all, but it also ties to the entrainment (such as magicians performing card tricks in magic shows), and lends itself to lots of fun and creative imagery (as well as be a more family friendly way to allude to some "mischievous" themes and imagery that many associate with Vegas).. I know that second example is what they're deliberately trying to avoid, but I'm just saying, in some marketing sense, I can imagine there will be a golden opportunity to capitalize on a concept or theme tastefully and with discretion, due to its connection to Vegas, even if it's not the most wholesome of topics...

Bottom line, there are plenty of solid options, and they're gonna screw it up and paint themselves into a corner when it's said and done

But back on subject Vegas is going to pick a bland and boring name. Everyone will cry foul for a bit and then everyone will move on until the team moves sometime in the future and the next new city is looking for a moniker.  The circle of life.

I don't hate Silverbacks.  A gorilla identity would be unique in North American pro sports. (R.I.P. Harambe) Plus you're right you do have the Silver State angle, and you can playfully dress up the gorilla in a tacky suit to have fun with Vegas' mob history
