Being across the street from Scottsdale doesn't mean anything. The plan has always been for the Coyotes to develop the land themselves without relying on infrastructure from Scottsdale. The 64th Street off ramp the mayor mentioned is completely within the Phoenix city limits, so that also has nothing to do with Scottsdale. The N Scottsdale road off ramp is fine, and handles plenty of traffic every year during the Waste Management Open.

The Mayor flat out said in his statement that the auction must specify that all utilities come from Phoenix so he’s flat out stating that saving millions of dollars by hooking up across the street is off the table. Also, you can’t just put a major development on a shared road with another city and tell them to pound sand. If that off-ramp isn’t completely upgraded Scottsdale is fully within their rights to take Phoenix to court since their infrastructure will be impacted by the increased traffic.
The_Admiral
Arlington Park, where the Bears want to build a stadium, isn't really in the middle of Arlington Heights proper; it's a little peninsula jutting into Rolling Meadows and Palatine. You're not gonna believe this, dude: the governments of Rolling Meadows and Palatine had concerns regarding construction. Again, it's confirmation that Meruelo can't crawl the Scottsdale to save a few million dollars by saving on two miles of utility conduit. It's also a warning shot that you can expect Scottsdale to get their lawyers involved due to the impacts it's going to be experiencing.
schlim
The ultimate move is the Coyotes winning the bid, building an arena, luxury condos, hotel and casino and everything else owners want these days, but then being unable to connect any utilities or water to the property, thus ensuring another 15-20 years in the desert awaiting the results of years of lawsuits while the stadium remains unused and the Coyotes play in front of 3,700 fans. Bettman dreams about this at night.

That's probably more related to the expansion talks that have been ongoing. I think all the rumors are aligning right now for the Coyotes to be SLC or bust at this point and Smith probably already has a handshake agreement. Of course, the interesting wrinkle in all of this is Seravelli's speculation that Meruelo's going to sell the team and still build the arena in hopes of getting a Browns deal. Considering how much red tape that they need to cut through that's probably the only real option lest the Coyotes stay in the Mullet until 2031. spartacat_12
Bill Daly has said that there won't be enough time to relocate the team for next season if they wait until after the June 27 auction date, so it seems like there are 3 options here: Yotes win the land auction and stay in Mullett for the next few seasons while the new rink is being built. Yotes are unsuccessful in winning the auction, play one more year in Mullett, then move to SLC for 25-26 season. Yotes sale & move to SLC for next season gets announced prior to the land auction, agreement is made with the league that they will be awarded an expansion franchise if they can get the new arena built Regardless of which option ends up happening, we'll at least have some sort of finish line to this whole situation by the end of June or sooner. TBGKon
You'd have to think if the league is doing up the schedule for a possible Salt Lake relocation, then there might be a more than 50% chance of it going thru. Lets be honest, when the Thrashers became Winnipeg, the Jets remained in the Southeast division for I think 3 seasons until the realignment. Thankfully Salt Lake and Arizona wouldn't need major realignment, but I think that Jets relocation caught the league a little off-guard or at least unexpected. monkeypower
From Friedman, the NHL and the Arizona Coyotes are preparing for the possibility of a move to Utah as soon as April 18, multiple sources confirmed Wednesday. Quote The league sent a memo to its Board of Governors indicating progress in talks to move the team to Utah, but several sources warned to be careful about making any absolute proclamations. “There is a lot that needs to be done,” one said, although it is clear this is a major priority, with maximum effort and speed utilized to reach a finish line. Quote The NHL is working as the broker, handling negotiations with both current Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo and prospective Utah steward Ryan Smith. Initially, the hope was to let the June 27 auction play out, but two concerns emerged: first, about what would happen if the Meruelo lost the auction, and second, the possibility of three more seasons at Mullett Arena. There wasn’t much enthusiasm for the latter. Multiple sources indicate a real scenario is Meruelo being paid $1 billion for the team, and Smith paying $1.2 billion to purchase. But the real key is what the NHL will promise Meruelo to avoid this ending up in court. Quote Those same sources indicate he could be offered a five-year exclusive window to “bring back” the Coyotes as an expansion franchise — although there would be certain language stating what would need to be accomplished for him to return. (The league definitely desires a return to the market if it leaves.) Obviously, there is a lot that still needs to happen, but a move is gaining momentum. SFGiants58
Utah Coyotes has a nice ring to it. However, the Kachina would probably have to go and at that point they might as well rebrand entirely. You can’t do the Coyotes identity properly if it isn’t Kachina. I’d just copy Total Drama for the Utah Owls. Somehow the kids’ cartoon has decent hockey sweater designs. 4 Quote MLB: Project 32 (Complete), MLB: The Defunct Saga (Complete)

Sodboy13
Taking a moment to remember that brief period in the mid-2000s where the Utah Grizzlies were the AHL affiliate of the Coyotes and it went so badly they had to reboot the team name in the ECHL. 3 Quote On 1/25/2013 at 1:53 PM, 'Atom said: For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head.
