Dynasty
As for the display? I don't know, I honestly think they just added that to have their own unique feature like some other teams have in their ballparks (the Brewers with Bernie's slide, the Reds with the smokestacks, etc.). EDIT: Sorry, it wouldn't let me add to my previous post.

I think it looks fun and unique. Fits with the bright colors of their uniform. The center field thing is a bit much. Have you been there? These don't look that bad on tv but they're seriously weird in person.

They've recently added a red wall in center with a big State Farm logo on it. With light blue/teal walls i think it would look better and a nice reference to the old park and colors (which is nearly completely absent in the new park. Welcome to Florida! If there was a chance of rain, with how quick the weather changes down there, by the time they finally got the roof closed, the rain would have been over. 2 hours ago, dont care said: Most of the time because they close it when ever it's too hot, which in Miami it normally is. Seriously, if that's the case... why? Aren't Chase Field and Minute Maid Park already famous for being able to (and needing to) pump air in even when the roofs open? Is Loria, after having Miami pay for the ballpark, now too cheap to blast the air? Or was the park just not designed well enough for it?

It's only open when the weather is lower than a certain temperature and when there's no chance of rain... anyone who lives in Miami can tell you that those two factors don't actually happen often so most of the time the roof is closed. There was a stretch early this season though where the weather was uncharacteristically cool and the roof was open for several days in a row, a rarity down here. The AC runs when the roof is open but the heat in Miami makes it still uncomfortable for the fans to sit through three hours of Florida heat even with the AC running. The comfort of the fans is a big part of that ballpark. This isn't a "Loria is too cheap"problem.

Michael Bolton
Yes, the Marlins lowered the walls before this season. Center and right field as well.

Thomas
Thanks for the replys regarding the marlins roof ! So they very rarely have the roof open. Sound ludicrous to me for several reasons, why spend a ton of money on a retractable roof if you are not going to use it. And Tampa get flak for playing in a dome, well this is not much better. No sunshine on the field makes it a dull looking game. Sunshine and shadows makes the game seem more alive. And the rain showers are over pretty quick right ? I am sure these big leaguers can handle some water and sliding around a bit. Why does it have to be so sterile, the weather should a part of the game, like in football and soccer. I hate the indoor look in the summer. I think we get enough of that in the winter time with hockey and basketball.

I hate the indoor look in the summer. I think we get enough of that in the winter time with hockey and basketball. The roof is closed for the fans, not the players. The stadium isn't sterile, which is one of its biggest complaints. It's a beautiful park, and I'm proud it's my home park. This is is why you don't leave the roof open unless it's a certain temp and no chance of rain. http://deadspin.com/the-marlins-had-a-rain-delay-because-they-didnt-close-t-1696045840 I was at This game- the storms rolled in within 5 minutes and it was the funniest thing in the world seeing fans scramble for cover- and the exact reason why they needed a retractable roof park. The fact rain is a possibility prevented so many from even trying to go. The heat prevented many more. Both and you end up with 300 fans at a September game vs the nationals in a 80k seat football stadium.
