The 2017 NBA Playoffs: This Is A Recording

Bill Simmons was saying there's a school of thought that if the Celtics wind up with the #1 pick, you move Thomas while his value is high and go with Ball or Fulz as your PG of the future. Especially since one of those two guys might play defense.

On the other hand, Thomas is great and had an Iverson-type year that everyone ignored because he wasn't LeBron, Harden, Westbrook, Kawhi or on the Warriors.

I think Thomas is one of the ten best players in the league, the same way Iverson was when he was at his peak. He'll never be THE best because of his size, but put a good team around him and anything is possible.

I'm not a GM, but for 2017-18, wouldn't you rather have a core of Isaiah/Crowder/Horford/Brown and say Paul George or Jimmy Butler than those same four + a rookie? Or Crowder/Horford/Brown and Lonzo Ball? A top three pick in a loaded draft is a huge asset, but so are proven scorers like George and Butler, even with years on them.

---

Do you think Sixers fans are watching the first couple rounds of playoffs and saying, "nah, our way is better"?

And the Kings just let him walk. Idiots.

So I guess it's speculation time. What happens to this Clippers team? Who all goes where?

My guess, and this is strictly a hunch:

Nothing. All of the big names are Clippers again next year. Even Doc and Blake.

Blake's gotta go. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if he retired. He can't stay healthy, plus he's "funny" and I'm sure he has other options. Sometimes basketball doesn't work out the way you'd hoped. Blake peaked; it's now just a matter of what the other side looks like.

I'm glad that's over. Tip of the cap to the Clippers for a very tough series.

Realistically, they aren't getting past Golden State, but just getting to the second round is a big thing altogether for them. 1) We're "ahead of schedule" in the process, and 2) all the more incentive for Hayward to stay. Of course I'd be over the moon if by some miracle they beat the Dubs, but as it is, I'm very pleased to get this far at all.

It's always fun when the Utah Jazz are good.

Eh....I can't say as I can tell the difference.

I was anti-Clippers for a long, long time, especially as they ascended while the Lakers fell apart. But I don't really get any joy from watching the team ultimately fail. Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, JJ Redick, Jamal Crawford and a couple of the other guys are legitimately entertaining and likeable players (I won't say the same for Blake). They should have at least made one Western Conference Final. Had they made it in 2015 against the ascendant Warriors, history may have been very different.

But, they didn't. Injuries, bad coaching, and ultimately not showing up when it matters. It's a sad end to the only period worth talking about in the team's history.

---

I don't bet, but if I did, I'd put it all on LeBron in the East. No one has been as good as him, and no team has been as good as his since the Celtics of 08 and 10. I think the team plays with the exact amount of energy they need to, and I bet they'll turn it on appropriately against the Raptors.

OK, maybe I'm not overconfident in Toronto's chances against the Cavs, but..... there's a case for Toronto.

Cleveland has a lot of 3-point shooters. And three point shooting runs hot or cold.

What if they aren't hitting a lot of threes like they did against Toronto last year? What if they go cold by their standards?

And they don't have the length of Milwaukee that gave the Raptors fits. Like, other than LeBron/Tristan, nobody on the Cavs defensively reminds me of Thon Baker or even Greg Monroe.

Cleveland has zero margin for error on offense- I don't know if these Cavs are capable of winning consistently if they are held under 100 points.

They can be had. And I think if they go ice cold from downtown just long enough, I don't know if even LeBron can make up for that.

The things they will be able to do against GS are between zero and nada.

Kind of symoblic in a way that Utah came up big today at STAPLES Center of all places considering that arena was their house of horrors for a long time.

Different era, different team (Lakers).

JJ is one of the most unlikable players in the NBA imo. Dude can only hit open, spot up jumpers and he acts like he's the greatest thing since Reggie Miller. I'll gladly take Thompson and Korver over him.

But at least he's not Chandler Parsons.

Embiid is great, both on and off the court. Hoping that the Sixers can actually stay healthy for once, it would be fun to see Simmons and Embiid play together for an entire season.

I updated my bracket for round 2

Spurs in 6

Warriors in 4

Cavs in 6

Celtics in 7

LOVE that Bullets logo you used for the Wizards there. The jump ball on its own really works surprisingly well.
