If I had to guess, it's because the logos may have been designed by NBA Properties. They did alot of work for teams in the 90's.

Just wondering if they're testing the waters with the look. Blue is long overdue for an alt. Not a fan of recycling previous alts in black. Testing out the diagonal Bucks text on a warm up to see if there's any fan reaction. Either way, I'd like to see them
Digby
That Bucks' blue does look nice and the way they've used it on some of their jerseys went better than I expected. But I still don't understand the clamoring for a blue Bucks jersey. They're a green team through and through! It looks too T'Wolves to me. I would rather them find a fun way to do an Irish Rainbow idea for a City uni. this was alright, but a little too wonky, imo Red Goat Creations :: Graphic Design Solutions

But mostly paying tribute to the Mecca court AND the rainbow was an idea that needed editing. The_Admiral
That Utah Jazz logo and color scheme is one of my favorites ever in the NBA. They handled the name situation right: much more Utah, much less Jazz. The uniforms had to change by 2004 but purple and sky blue should have stuck around forever. The Deron Williams-era set was so awful, completely soulless and derivative, some of the worst. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The Jazz, Mavs, and sorta Grizzlies and Thunder are all teams that essentially threw out great unique colors schemes in favor of double blue, one of the least interesting/distinct combos in sports. While there's a lot of good in the Jazz's current identity and old school looks, the switch to navy is a hinderance and Utah would do well to stick with a brand that emphasizes Utah over Jazz, as you stated. Not as high on the copper era as I found that color and their gradients fairly ugly, but I'd be down with purple and sky blue.
The_Admiral
The Grizzlies frustrate me immensely because they needed an interesting color scheme to stand out but went with triple (!) blue and gold. Brown with sky blue or sea foam green (think of the latter as an evolution of Vancouver's black and teal) would have been extremely cool. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The_Admiral
Yeah, that template can take you in the right direction toward what they should have done: keep the fundamentals of the last set but dial down some of the '90sness. Those jerseys used the opposite home/road scripts as alternate logos on the shorts! God that was so sad. Just the look of a team stripped of its soul. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The black and copper was pretty bad, but they could’ve stuck with this as a base to tone down the mountain set and that whole scheme could’ve stuck around a LOT longer. They might’ve looked a bit too much like the Wizards at the time, but the Wizards shouldn’t have gone to that color scheme in the first place, so that would’ve been their problem. FinsUp1214
I think what bugged me most about the Jazz switching to double blue in 2004 was that it was such a “generic cold weather team” look, in comparison to the mountain-era colors that purposefully fit Utah so well. Where the mountain colors really painted the right picture of Utah’s natural landscapes, the 2004 colors pretty much just said “yeah it snows here”. The switch just looked so soulless from day one, and I never really liked it throughout its whole run. At the very least, purple/sky blue/copper should’ve survived into 2004 and onward. That double-blue set is pretty close to the worst in NBA history. Completely lifeless. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
