We'll see what happens next month. If there were preseason games happening for the NFL, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see those boycotted (they would be about now, right?).

It's going to be an interesting few days to follow sports. If the NHL and MLS follow suit? It's a movement. Will cops stop executing black people? Remains to be seen.

MLS might.  As for the NHL? I could see the small number of black players that are currently in the NHL bubble boycotting but not sure the rest of the league will follow suit.

I think all that :censored: in Kenosha last night may have finally been the final straw for a lot of people. This is starting to feel more like Kosovo than the US, so maybe sports can take a back seat right now.

Just for reference, Chris Stewart is the only member of the HDA in the bubble right now. Co-Heads Evander Kane and Akim Aliu never were, and "public face" Matt Dumba was eliminated a while ago.

NCAA football players in the SEC now have a blueprint to do the same thing.

Not in the Big 12, once Big Man on Campus Mike Gundy reads any of their tweets!

If Kosovo 20ish years ago, I think ethnic cleansing / genocide might be a little extreme.  Kosovo today isn't bad.

I just mean in terms of the initial violence spilling out into the streets. There’s another part where a lot of Melosivic’s act seems to have found a new mouthpiece, but that’s for another thread and probably another board.

Games back Saturday. NBA/NBPA agreement includes:

Quote

As part of the agreement to restart play on Saturday, the two parties outlined three commitments:

  • Creating a “social justice coalition” comprised of players, coaches, and governors to work on advocating for the reform of police and criminal justice policies, increasing voting access, and “promoting civic engagement.”
  • Turning NBA arenas in cities where the team controls the property into polling places for the 2020 general election. Where that’s not possible for November’s election, the statement says that team governors will work to find other “election-related” uses for their arenas, like to help increase voter registration.
  • Creating advertising during playoff games designed to promote “greater civic engagement in national and local elections.”

Good on them. Especially #2; that's a huge, immediate benefit.

It’s great, community-minded work. I was going to say apolitical but the RNC had a speaker who thinks we should go back to one-household-vote (husbands only!) so even that’s political now I guess.

Oh, the right to vote is 100% political. Shouldn't be, but it is.

Clippers Doc Rivers delivered an impassioned speech to players, encouraging them to take more ownership toward the voting process. Rivers expressed that he believes only 20 percent of players are registered voters, and that number must be in the 80s, sources said. Those sources said Rivers expressed that Black males must make a more concerted effort to go vote and make an impact.
