Gotcha.  I asked some friends that would be "in the know" and they said there was nothing going on there, and that area is well policed by the health inspectors so it would be very unlikely that any kind of event was being held that would be outside of the very tight restriction.

Not sure that you blame Manfred for individual people being stupid. I'm reasonably certain that neither of those things were allowed in whatever protocol was agreed upon between the players, its union, and the league.

 

Sure you can!  As someone that used to be in Risk Mgmt, Governance, Oversight, and Compliance, he can certainly be blamed for not ensuring that there were proper mitigating controls that were mapped up to each possible scenario, and that those controls had adequate testing procedures in place to ensure that they were good enough.

 

They had months to put a plan together.  You can't control everything, but you can do your best to try to mitigate everything - and they did nothing.

Naming your kid after yourself is almost always a sure-fire sign things will go downhill for your career.

I don't have you on ignore because you offer decent thoughts around here at times. Believe me, I give the ignore function frequent use (51 users - some of whom have been banned since I ignored them), and I feel rewarded that I rarely miss the direction that a thread is going based on who I have ignored.

 

I don't want to ignore you - this hasn't 'triggered' me. I thought it might help to have it pointed out by someone else that it was annoying. Eh - if the mods tell me I'm faux-modding, I'll gladly stop. That it hasn't happened yet -- only means that it hasn't happened.

PS - I thought blue italics was the sarcasm font. I could be wrong.

Two of the Phillies three positives have been deemed "false positives", so the only real positive was the visiting clubhouse staff guy that we all knew was legit.

 

So they really didn't have to cancel this weekends games or close CBP and ban practicing at all.  The team will resume Monday, on one or two days of practice after sitting idle for 6 days.  Screw the Marlins, and screw MLB.

 

Am I doing it right?  Or should it be ScReW tHe MaRlInS aNd ScReW mLb?

The only argument against expelling the Marlins at this point is that it won't be fair to the West and Central teams.

Anyway... if you’re the Phillies, playing after a full week off, do you reset your rotation and go back to your #1, or pick up where you left off so as to get the losers at the end their starts?  I think it would be a no brained to go back to #1, but then you have guys that wouldn’t have thrown real pitches in like 3 weeks. 
 

this whole thing is messed up, and while the easy thing to do is to simply blame the Marlins, let’s be honest - well yeah, it’s their fault.  Let’s expel them from the league. They’ve wrecked two teams seasons. Mattingly needs to be fired, maybe even push the penalties up higher. 
 

I hope so much that there’s fans in stands at the beginning of next year, and the Phillies open at home against them. I’m already stocking up on D-cells just in case.

You hope that now there's procedure in place where the infected team isn't the group making the decision on their own to play. It's bonkers that after all we've learned about Covid that the Marlins were able to make that call on their own. 

 

And I wouldn't mind if the Marlins were just eliminated for the season. Use them as the cautionary tale to scare the other 29 teams into not going out to nightclubs and casinos.

Eduardo Rodriguez is out for the year due to heart inflammation complications from COVID. He tested positive what, 3 or 4 weeks ago? It doesn't need to be a scare tactic but if that doesn't get people to take seriously that yeah, maybe a mid-20s well-conditioned athlete won't die, but they still might get pretty alarming health effects that wreck at least a season, hopefully not more.

This entire season has been a cautionary tale for all the big 4 that ever pondered a “let the states and franchises figure it out and we’ll trust the athletes” method.
