Unless they try to make a summers worth of double headers (which would cause the MLBPA to collectively melt down), they pretty much have to shorten the season. This was gonna be a huge spring for me with baseball, the Heat and Nets in the playoffs, new Western Ultimate League, new Oakland IFL team... Not that we're going to host any this year, but that would be awful for a lot of places. I know it's counter intuitive since that would take even more games away from the regular season, but it might be a more fair option. I'm not totally sure how the split-season in '81 worked, and I'm not suggesting that, but maybe just open the tournament to 8 per league (yes, more than 50%) and that way nobody is overly punished for a slow start or untimely injury. The championships this year are going to have asterisks anyway, so why not have fun with it? Both the NBA and the NHL had shortened seasons recently and they found a way to make it work. It’s happened fairly recently in the NBA twice now.
