They were never going to start before May 1st with this initial decision.  I would doubt they want to puch back the World Series any later.  Imagine playing the WS around Thanksgiving in places like Minneapolis, New York, Boston, etc.

Well they said that they have looked at having a neutral site World Series in possibly Miami if it does go far into November

Twins/Cubs: Game 7 on Christmas Eve!

Game could be at US Bank Stadium as it hosts Gophers baseball, or the Cubs could shoehorn a field in the United Center like the Bears did at Chicago Stadium in 1932🤣

Regardless of whenever or wherever the World Series is played this year, or even whether or not the World Series will be able to be played at all this year, Major League Baseball's commissioner revealed a few hours ago that we will need to wait more than two months ... at the least ... for a return to a semblance of normalcy in MLB:

Yeah, there’s absolutely no way we’re getting a full season this year. Unless they try to make a summers worth of double headers (which would cause the MLBPA to collectively melt down), they pretty much have to shorten the season.

as someone with a season ticket plan, a summer's worth of double headers would cause me to melt down.  Unless they play the first of the two games in empty stadiums, it would suck.

AHL Comets Selling “Puck The Virus” Shirts to Help Team Staff

March 17, 2020 - 20:49 PM

How about a 90 game season?

45 home? 45 away?

I'm hoping they extend the season by two weeks. That can maybe get them a dozen more games. I would like them to get in over 100 games, if at all possible of course.

I take it you didn't attend any of the home '08 World Series games.  Not that we're going to host any this year, but that would be awful for a lot of places.

A shortened season is nice in principal and all.... But god forbid a favoured team misses the playoffs in a 90-110 game season. We'd never hear the end of it.

In a shortened season, expanded playoffs might make sense.  I know it's counter intuitive since that would take even more games away from the regular season, but it might be a more fair option.

I'm not totally sure how the split-season in '81 worked, and I'm not suggesting that, but maybe just open the tournament to 8 per league (yes, more than 50%) and that way nobody is overly punished for a slow start or untimely injury.

The championships this year are going to have asterisks anyway, so why not have fun with it?

It’s not like a shortened season is unheard of or anything. Both the NBA and the NHL had shortened seasons recently and they found a way to make it work. It’s happened fairly recently in the NBA twice now.

But those sports already have deep playoff fields, so it's much less of an issue.

I'm not either. All I know is that the Reds had the best record in baseball and somehow still missed the '81 playoffs. MLB might want to avoid doing that again.

March 19, 2020 - 14:53 PM

The Toronto Maple Leafs had plans to wear special St. Pats throwback uniforms for two games earlier this month. For reasons very apparent to all, those games did not take place. With a locker room full of now-unused jerseys, the […]

Well I have heard that they would maybe play in a neutral site like Miami. Not sure about the truth to that.
