They had the all black hat with the drop shadow which was a total mess and was ugly as all hell. But, they also had the road black cap with the blue bill and that is and will always be one of my favorite caps of all time. This should have been the only Mets black cap, and it would’ve been cool to see it used today (with a black jersey) in a similar frequency to how the Cardinals now use the navy cap. MJD7 Posted November 26, 2020 Share Posted November 26, 2020 I think the perfect black Mets cap would be a combination of the two: the logo with the white outline of the top version, and the blue brim of the bottom version. I get wanting to add names to the home set, if only because they are in full transition mode away from the 3-in-5 era/“Bobby Evans special contract” days and want to “catch up” to the rest of the majors (excluding Yankees and home Red Sox). It’s not that good (nor is it that bad), but I 100% get the sentiment. I’d much rather fix the road uniforms and do a better black alternate (no shadows), but that’s just me. I don't think the Mets look good in black but this post made me aware of the top cap and... I prefer it. Black and royal is generally an ugly combo, IMO, so the blue brim just doesn't work for me.
