This is a bit weird. I could be reading too much into it, though?

Ok, so... this opens a pandora's box, semantic as it is, with this whole program:

How much of a risk do they take in creating a "city" uniform (ugh) for a team named for a whole region--in this case, a state?

Bet they didn't think that part through enough; probably just wanted to cash in on the "city" thing they're doing with the NBA. Off the top of my head there's four clubs named for regions (and depending on who you talk to in NY, maybe five or six 🙂). Maybe a better name would've been Community Connect? Eh, whatever.

Either way, I'm half-expecting cacti out the wazoo and something that ends up close to the Kachina Coyotes pattern. Just as long as they don't try to cosplay as actual snakes...we done already seen how problematic that looked.

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

I have high expectations for the Diamondbacks set. They are like the Marlins in the sense that they have  pretty lousy standard uniforms that haven't been around for too long. Both franchises have also experimented with a wide variety of different colors over the years. Nike should have a lot more latitude with the Diamondbacks than, say, the Cubs.

Even though I'm enjoying this slow rollout of the teams participating in the City Connect program, the release schedule seems wonky. Two teams in May, three in June and then only one in July and August and none in September?

As others mentioned we already saw a city uniform that not only went outside city limits, it crossed international borders. It's a safe bet that whatever artistic license is necessary to design and sell merchandise will be taken.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if the D-Backs' City jersey includes Hopi aesthetics ala the Coyotes' Kachina and that's how they play up the local tie. The Kachina is popular in Arizona, so leaning in that direction seems like an easy seller.

I would venture to guess a Wild West theme, Mexican Heritage theme or something based off the Camelback Mountains. I would also say that instead of Arizona. We get Phoenix. With a dose of Purple and teal

The nba hasn’t had that problem with the Utah jazz, Minnesota timberwolves, or golden state warriors. I’m sure I’m missing some others.

Only thing I can come up with is it has to be some sort of a nod to this uni, I guess?
