2021 NFL Season - Adults Arguing About Matt Stafford

Recommended Posts

On a different note, I was already floored when Tampa won last February and of course, I'd like to see a repeat, but this year just doesn't look to be in the cards for this team. They seem to only have luck when the season starts with a two or zero. So next year baby!

So now that I'm 24+ hours removed from my bitter frustration and hatred for the Pittsburgh Steelers putting an end to my Ravens season, time for me to share my yearly end-of-season reflection.

Let's be real. This team was very similar, if not, just as or more beaten and bruised up than last year's 49ers. When your team is so decimated, they are trotting out practice squad players to fill in at damn near every position, it is a catastrophe. Nonetheless, the team still has to play football like the other 31 teams, and well..everything just came crumbling down at the end, the close losses leaving me and many frustrated, some playcalling decisions here and there, not winning a single game after Lamar was hurt...

I don't know how to feel going forward. Maybe my viewpoint is unpopular, but I'm a little...shaky about how next season will go??? Granted, players that were hurt this year will come back barring any further setbacks, but...with as many players coming back to play, is it asking too much to see if they and the acquired personnel to come will contend just as well as 2020, if not better? I don't know. Then there's the concerns over how, if not, when the team moves past Greg Roman as an OC, a lack of decent pass rush, and more. My optimism isn't completely dead just because this season is over...just a little cautioned.

Nobody cares about anyone's predictions.  Isn't there a predictions thread?

My prediction?  They'll figure out how to make Ben Roethlisberger be an actual super hero, possibly with laser vision and the ability to fly.  It's well known that I'm no Andy Reid fan, but they'll be facing four teams this weekend - the Steelers, the referees, the networks, and the league.  As much as it would benefit the league for Mahomes to win another one and become even more of a star, they can never pass up a fairytale ending for a Steeler.

The worst part is our game against them yesterday was remarkably well-refereed, to the point where I don't think I complained about the refs a single time the whole game.  You know the NFL is gonna have to make up for Ed's little boy Shawn Hochuli making it tougher for the Steelers to get in in the first place.

I remember there being some very questionable 15-yard call against the Steelers - I forget if it was a personal foul or maybe DPI or something - and wondering how the hell they allowed that to be called against them.  No doubt someone was in the Raiders' coach ear saying "you better attempt a FG or you'll never work in this league again."

You would think with all of the self created turmoil that this wouldn’t be the year, but I feel like a lot of the most BS drama filled Pats seasons ended up with Brady lifting another trophy so, 🤷‍♂️

Im genuinely not worried about the Bucs facing a single NFC team except for one. The 49ers. I just have this feeling that them getting that defense settled a bit more right before the playoffs is going to vault them deep into the playoffs. It’s contingent on Garrapolo not tossing games away, but I kinda feel like that defense may be able to cover enough of their offensive weaknesses up.

Never count Brady out. It was amazing how he'd go into another gear in the playoffs all of those seasons with the Patriots, but watching him do it for a team I was cheering for was something else entirely. The dude's playing with house money at this point in his career and it's unreal.

I honestly feel like the 49ers could really make more noise than thier seed would suggest. The defense is coming along at the right time, yes, but I also feel like they could be enough of a nuisance with thier run game to control the clock and potentially neutralize the more potent offenses they’d have to face along the way. Add in the home-run-play capabilities Swiss Army Deebo and Kittle have to offer, and maybe even some chunk-run Lance packages sprinkled in, and that’s a team that’s sneakily well-equipped to cause some trouble, even against teams like Dallas, Green Bay, and Tampa Bay.

Like you said, Jimmy G absolutely has to take care of the ball for all of that to work. But if he does, and the 49ers play thier way? I’m not sure I’d want to play them right now.

It’s seriously changed my whole outlook on watching the NFL. I was born basically right after the 49ers dynasty was doing its thing and the first Super Bowl I remember was the one after their last win. I know the stories of Montana and Young, and I love em both, but I just missed out on actually experiencing the peak of all that. That’s kind of the reason why I never really could get on to the Niners bandwagon, despite

being from Niners country (Raiders moved back to the bay the same year my family moved out of the Bay Area, so that link wasn’t really there until later, either). And, my dumb ass decided as a kid to pick just about the sorriest franchise ever in terms of QB production/creation, so even the idea of ever getting that was always a non starter.

And I’ll fully admit that my hatred of Brady was spawned 100% from jealousy. Dude wins all these titles with a franchise I forgot even existed most times before he was there, while I was rooting for a bunch of schlubs who were basically the tropical version of the pre Brady Pats. And Brady is a Bay Area kid, too. It always just felt so frustratingly close, and that made me hate him even more.

Well, anyway. I’m happy I changed my tune on Brady, because, goddamn, dude. He’s so much fun to watch. And I’m happy the Bucs are finally fun again, too!

Whatever happens in the playoffs with them, I’m good. I’ve gotten more than I ever expected to and this is all gravy.

If this happens, it would be proof that the NFL is rigged. This team should get stomped at Kansas City.

Involved in the Bears GM Search will be their consultant Bill Polian.  So why do NFL teams always go to him, Ernie Acorsi or Charlie Casserly to find their GM?

There was a great article in the Defector about nepotism in the NFL and that it's way worse than you think. There's not only nepotism with family hirings, but also nepotism in ideas.

You would think the Matt LaFleur and Sean McVays of the world would show that innovation in the football space is worth pursuing. Polian hasn't been in the league for a decade. Turn the page.
