2021 NFL Season - Adults Arguing About Matt Stafford

Recommended Posts

So Brady's still great and now Tampa Bay is even more stacked at WR with Antonio Brown having a full offseason with the team.  Dak looks good too.

A call I've never seen before -- Jamel Dean was (incorrectly) called for grabbing a WR's facemask.  Got a spot penalty for Pass Interference and a facemasking penalty.

Al Michaels brought up a great point—the Cowboys don’t play a 2020 playoff team until week 11(and only 4 overall).

Bucs, Chiefs, Washington, Washington.

With as strong a showing as this Tampa Bay game, and a weak division, I can see them finishing with around 10-12 wins. For all the talk of “this is the year”, this may actually be the year.

Two years in a row got screwed on OPI calls in Week 1 lmao. 🤷‍♂️

Cowboys really lost because they couldn’t convert red zone opportunities into touchdowns and Greg “the leg” cost Dallas 4 points by missing chip shots.

Dak looked like every bit like the elite QB the Cowboys paid him to be. Outstanding performance from him. You couldn’t tell he missed the last 11 months.

Overall tho, while I’m bummed about the loss because the Cowboys really should have won, as long as Dak is healthy, the Cowboys are easily winning this division and making the playoffs. Cowboys don’t play another elite team until KC like in Week 11 or something. They have zero excuses if they don’t have at least 8-9 wins by that game.

Yes, the team that didn't score the most points was really the better team. The Minnesota Wild are familiar with phenomena. My good friend Professor @infrared41 is well versed in it.

The defender was already falling backwards.

It’s more of a game that the Cowboys will regret not winning that game because of how well they played, the yard difference between the two, winning the turnover battle +3 and committing less penalties/penalty yards than Tampa.

Bucs were the first team in NFL history to win a game despite giving up over 450 yards, -3 in the turnover column and having 100+ yards in penalties.

And falling over my booty cheeks lmao. Watch it again, Lewis didn’t start to fall until after Godwin pushed him. Cowboys still might have lost regardless, but man it would have made it far tougher for the Bucs and that’s simply an egregious missed call. If that happened in the 2nd or 3rd, that gets called every time.

Go look up the Gallup OPI against Ramsey from last season if you need a recall. They called that an OPI and not Godwin’s, which is why us Cowboy fans are pretty irritated at that inconsistency.

That must have been an amazing experience! Super jealous lol.

But it was OPI dude. It was pretty blatant. Even if I take out my homerism, that’s a textbook OPI. I’ve seen less called.

Thank you 😁 I wasn't planning on it until just a few days ago. Work friend got a ticket and I ended up with the spare!

The reason I don't think it's so clear cut is because on passes like that the defender is often in a position where he's not on solid footing. And he was stumbling before contact.

I'll give you that if they did call it OPI I don't think I could argue against it, but it's also a case where not calling it is valid too. It's less clear cut and more "up to the ref's discretion."

And of Brady's picks one was on his running back, and the other was a last second in a half Hail Mary that didn't effect the game at all. So I'm not so sure the Bucs would have been done even if OPI was called. As good as Dak looked, Brady was hitting the passes he needed to hit just as well.

People arguing of a bad call/no call?

Football is definitely back. LOL

Game was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Dak showed exactly why he was willing to hold out and deserved every bit of the money he got. If Jerruh Jones can ever get his head dislodged from his ass, Cowboys could have a decent shot at making a Super Bowl with Dak.

Or he could just end up another Tony Romo.

Brady also proved to everyone he's still immortal.  Much to the dismay of everyone outside of Tampa & New England.

If you give Brady even a few seconds, just needing a FG or TD to win the game, the outcome is.....inevitable.

Have I ever mentioned how much fun it is to have Tom Brady? Because it’s really fun to have Tom Brady.

God, I needed that after the crazy week I’ve had.

That’s incredible good luck!

Refs, when it comes to OPI, look for clear extension coupled with the defender clearly being moved out of the way. Godwin’s left arm was fully extended into Jordan’s chest, which he then fell afterwards. It’s a textbook OPI.

I think that’s fair, but the only thing for me was that because the Bucs had no timeouts left, an offensive penalty would have incurred a 10-second runoff (the play happened with 20 seconds left and the clock was running) followed with a running clock on the refs whistle (which would have forced the Bucs to spike it), and then couple that with the Bucs LOS being at the Cowboys’ 42-yard line at the snap which would have pushed TB back to the Bucs 48 after the penalty.

I know Brady is the GOAT. But even he would struggle with winning a game with less than 10 seconds left, no timeouts and you’re on the wrong side of the 50.

That really was an egregious missed call.

And FTR, I’m so effing tired of another shoulda, woulda, coulda with the Cowboys lmao. It’s been their story for the last 26 years. I’m sick of it.

I enjoy a Cowboys loss as much as the next guy but that was 100% pass interference.

edit: And regarding whether or not the defensive players momentum was already carrying him backwards, the two handed shove happened as Godwin was making his break, so both players momentum was going in that direction.  Godwin never actually made a full break back toward Brady.  The push made it impossible to defend, which is kind of he point of the rule.

The missed PI call was final nail in the coffin , but geezus, the Cowboys missed a field goal and an extra point, and turned the Bucs over 4!!!! times and only turned one? of those into a touchdown. They stepped on their own dicks a few times and came away with field goals instead of touchdowns. The Cowboys should have won relatively easily, honestly. Same old story, can’t get out of their own way.

I thought it was offensive PI, but once again, it's a bit disingenuous to focus only on the last call.  So unless Tampa was getting all the calls all night, I'm not too worried about it.

Dallas surprised me, particularly with their best OL out.  Dak looked good; I hope he can stay healthy.

Yeah, looked like OPI on slow motion, but I think anyone who watches the NFL knows that the refs do not like to call the offense for that unless they absolutely have to.  Hell, those pick plays NFL offenses contantly run should technically get called, but almost never do.  Watching it live (you know, the way the refs have to) OPI didn't register with me at all.  It wasn't until the slowed it down and went over it a few times.
