College Football 2022

Don't look now, but Tennessee--yes, them Volunteers--are sitting 4-0 right now after holding off and taking down Florida for the first time since 2016 and only the second time in dang near 20 years, leaving them swamp thangz sitting at 2-2. (And had Utah not come up short in that goal line stand UF would be 1-3 right now.) I can't remember the last time Tennessee looked even halfway competent; they seem to be getting that thang together down there on ol' Rocky Top.

And also don't look now, but Florida State ain't wasting no time on Boston College, already up 21-0 in the first quarter. We'll see if they can pour more on while holding BC off...it'll say a lot about their mettle if they can blow BC out. But there's still three quarters to go, and my Seminoles ain't quite back jusssssst yet, so we'll see how this plays out.

I figure one thing, falling behind 28-0 before you finally score... I'm tempted to turn this game off, UW generally doesn't do big comebacks.  And their "pummel, pummel, big run" game plan usually doesn't work against the Buckeyes.  Also not feeling like Graham Mertz should call himself running a Power 5 offense... he's like the fifth best quarterback in the stadium, at best (Stroud, Buckeyes backup and third stringer, Herbstreit)

Someday voters will stop giving Miami top 25 preaseason rankings. Not that there's any excuse to be getting blown out by Middle Tennessee if you're any P5 school. I guess Cristobal is like Miami in that people really want him to be good in spite of all the evidence.

Maybe someday they just stop making rankings until Week 6 or so.  There always seems to be a lot of fluidity in these early weeks, and by the time week 6 is around you have a feel for who is who.

What problem does that solve other than people getting mad about pre-week 6 rankings?

Been a long time since I’ve been able to have positive thoughts about the Vols. Last time was probably when they beat Miami while Kellen Winslow Jr. was screaming about being a soldier.

I am in favor of every win that FSU can get; it makes that 24-23 loss by my LSU Tigers on Sept. 4th much more understandable and palatable. 😁

So I'm guessing they'd be at Soldier Field for a couple years while they do that?

That's what I was thinking too but on Reddit a lot of the Northwestern fans were saying Wrigley because it's smaller and a lot closer to campus.

The field at Wrigley is too small though right? They can only run the offense into one end zone for safety reasons or did they fix that after all the renovations? It would be pretty sweet though to play a couple seasons at Wrigley, hopefully they can make that happen.

I think it was an issue with measuring the lines too close to one wall for that specific game. But Wrigley should not be a weekly game site for football when there's another stadium in Chicago. Heck, use Bridgeview if you have too, but that's smaller than Wrigley and Ryan Field by a lot.

Northwestern played Purdue at Wrigley last season and the offenses went in both directions, so I don't think it was a specific failing of Wrigley as a venue as much as it was poor planning. But also some of it was Wrigley's dimensions.

I think the alignment they used for the infamous game from a decade ago was done to try and maximize valuable seating, but didn't gel with the actual dimensions of the stadium. Baseball stadiums probably don't make for great football viewing experiences in most cases.

Yes. It also means that next week, College Gameday will be in Lawrence for a game between two unbeaten teams - 5-0 Kansas hosting 4-0 Texas Christian, coming off that upset/rout of Oklahoma.

Oh wow... shades of 2007 going on here 😄

Has CGD ever been to Lawrence before? I suppose it's nice for them to get out to some new places every here and now...
