powersurge
They need to develop a more major league identity. I always thought that the name "Tarpons" would fit much better. It's curious that you favor the name of the old local minor league team to make them seem more major league.I'm not sure whats so "curious" about it. There are many instances in sports history where the nickname of a major sports franchise was lifted from a minor league franchise. This is yet another case of a minor league nickname that should be used as a major league name.
TruColor
Devil Rays is a horrible name for a sports team, not because of any religious reasons, but because it just sounds terrible. Sting Rays, Rays, Watch, or Turf Katzz would all make better names....or, Mountain Sharkzz, Mighty Muffins, Crescent Wrenches, Staple Removers... rams80
Well... I got my tickets already for September 30th, last Devil Rays game everNot counting on the playoffs then for them.(ok, yes, they are eliminated because Toronto, Boston, and the Yankees are in their division). DG_ThenNowForever
And IMO - as a Christian myself - I don't have any kind of problem with the "Devil" part of the name, other than the fact that I think the name "Manta Rays" or "Stingrays" would have been better names to begin with.I thought this fellow's name was "Manta Ray," but it turns out it was "Ray Fillet." However, since I went through so much work finding an image, I had to post it. Chazberg
I think if anything they should go with that old minor league club's handle, the Tarpons. I always thought that had a good ring to it when they donned those throwbacks. And I'm sure I'm in the minority but I love their current color scheme, it's very unique and changing to "heavy on blue with yellow" sounds about as retread as you can get. And sorry if these thoughts have already been expressed, I'm way too lazy to read all 8 pages... charles-noerenberg.com

If anything, adpot the Tarpons old unis. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) It's the one's who take it way beyond the PC stuff and make a complete stink out of a name, for example that New Jersey governor person who won't go t Devils games because of the name and his beliefs. He then wanted to get the courts to make force the Devils to change it, or something like that. It's people like that who ruin it for everyone else. Korkie
The Rays unis are fine, especially the batting helmets. They have finally found a look that does wonders for them and now they are going to toss it away? Its such a shame. As of right now, the Rays were a black batting helmet, yet to my knowledge, the Rays have not worn their black caps for the past 2 seasons, not including the one we're in now. Is it that hard to get GREEN helmets?

simpsontide
I hope that if the name is just "Rays" ,the team will be be called the Tampa Rays and not the Tampa BAY Rays. Just doesn't sound right to me.
BigShoop
Its all pretty worthless because its not like they'll keep the team for too long anyway. If the Marlins could win two World Series in a decade and still be on the verge of relocating, the "Devil Rays" don't have chance.First get educated. Then speak. Just doesn't sound right to me.St Petersburg has an inferiority complex and will throw a hissy fit, so it'll never happen. They think that if we use Tampa BAY people will associate it with the AREA and not just Tampa.Yes, it's petty and stupid, but that's the reason all of our teams have BAY in them, even though the Rays are the only ones who are located in St Pete.
