We need some fan protests just like the European Super League had.

Nah. In this country, we like socialism if it's for sports or billionaires. And especially when it's for both.

Agreed but I don’t see a reversal of the current trend until 10 years down the line at least and even then it’s a stretch.

Fans of teams in the new division are just gonna be happy they’re not left out, especially if some traditional rivals are stuck in the lower league I could see mocking triumphing over any desire to play again.

Though if this :censored:s up basketball all my interest in that sport goes away. A College Basketball Tournament without the possibility of a Saint Peter’s is not worth watching.

i have unquantifiable corpses on my conscience

ACC contract being locked until 2036 might prevent some teams from jumping ship.

2023 may well be the last season we see where conferences have unique personalities. Cherish it.

Didn't this already happen when the Big Ten had to hide its 11 in the name?

If the bigger schools like Oregon and Washington jump ship, then it would suck for the State schools cause the annual rivalries would just suddenly go away. (Besides would they even be on the radar for the Super conferences?)

aside from the very damaging effect this is clearly going to have on college sports, it just pisses me off on a purely aesthetic level. why does the big ten have sixteen members. why does the midwest conference have two california teams. does nothing mean anything anymore.

If they go SEC, ESPN can make the Grant of Rights work out, maybe.  Clemson's an obvious choice for the SEC.  VaTech too, maybe? Really hope one of FSU or Miami get left out.

College football, as we knew it, is completely dead. It started dying 12 years ago and it was on life support when Texas and Oklahoma bolted for the SEC.

This might really kill my interest. I have no desire to see Penn State play a conference game against USC or UCLA.

Penn State/USC sounds fun to me.

I'd rather this than argue about G5 vs P5 for the rest of eternity. I think a clean split between the two has become necessary, unfortunately.

Here's my question: how long does Rutgers stick around in the B1G? They haven't exactly been a top performer in the conference since joining. I could see them leaving at some point.

That said, USC and UCLA to the B1G just seems insane to me. The most unfortunate thing is that all these conference moves are entirely about money and those precious media revenues. Capitalism ruins all good things.

But going on what some others have said: I wouldn't mind seeing college football have a completely different conference structure from basketball - and I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing that happening at some point in the future. Hell, hockey pretty much has a completely different conference structure from the rest of NCAA sports, so I wouldn't be surprised if that happens with football as well.

And yeah, as someone who enjoys basketball far more than football, I loathe this.

Why?

Do you also hate seeing Penn State play a conference game against Michigan?

"Can the Big Ten improve its West Division?"
Big Ten: "Oh, just you watch."

You can't beat a Rutgers night game in volleyball, basketball, tennis, softball, baseball, etc. at UCLA on a Wednesday...10:00 PM local.

What's next for the Big Ten? Gonna grab Washington, Oregon, New Mexico, Montana State, Colorado College of Mines, Middle Tennessee State, Miami (FL), Miami (OH), Rhode Island School of Design, the Detroit Lions, Northwest Louisiana State (but only if it exists), Georgia Tech, and Coastal Carolina.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."
