That's right guys, a 22-team mid-major conference.Also, reports say Boise State and Air Force endorsed the move, whcih means they could be staying put in the MWC -- especially if this new MEGA conference can get an automatic BCS bid.Good for the MWC and CUSA. In that case just let the football schools leave and collect the exit fees (and keep the brand name).That said I don't think the basketball schools can really survive on their own in today's college sports world. A couple of them have some nice tradition, but they are all small private catholic schools, meaning they don't have a big alumni base. Losing the football side hurts their tv attractiveness financially. Ultimately the Big East would become a really good mid-major conference IMO. DaytonBlue Posted October 16, 2011 Share Posted October 16, 2011 The way i see it, if Big East football ends up falling apart (latest reports having BSU and Air Force saying no thank you), it helps the BCS greatly. They simply let the Mountain USA champ take the BE BCS spot and call it a day. The MAC, WAC (now that Boise is gone), and Sun Belt do not have teams that could really make a gripe about not being in a BCS game.But this would hurt the chances of a playoff ever happening, IMO. With the direction the Big East is going, it seems inevitable that they would make the jump. There have been talks with those schools and the Big XII, to varying degrees, so it's very much in play.
