The Yankees, while classic, don?t look great.

The Mets look better without pinstripes.

The Cowboys have some of the worst uniforms in the NFL.

I like the Padres update.

The NY Rangers look bad. Easily the worst of the original six.

Every single case of drop shadow is terrible.

I love the tequila sunrise jersey. Better than the majority of the jerseys worn by Houston throughout the years.

I love the Burger King jerseys. Much better than the current home plate shield and arguably better than the Gretzky era set.

I don't hate road pinstripes, especially on the Rockies. It works even better now that they're alone.

I hate grey facemasks even on teams with grey in their color scheme.

I love the nameplates on the Flyers.

The Lightning and the Coyotes have never looked better than they currently do.

I don?t mind vintage white. In fact, I?d welcome its use on select teams on an everyday basis. However, some color palettes just don?t work. It looked great on the Rangers yesterday, but terrible on the Flyers.

I'd like to see hockey, basketball, and football go almost exclusively color-on-color. I may be biased having grown up in L.A. and following the Lakers and longing for the Kings to return to the original set, but it still looks good in many other cases. Remember the Thanksgiving game between the Pats and the Lions in their throwbacks? Beautiful. (Actually, yes, that Pats-Lions game was beautiful. But those leagues going exclusively color-on-color? No.)

The new helmet numbers in the NHL don't bother me one bit. Numbers on the front of the jersey, such as the current Sharks and Sabres, and the former ATL thirds, are way more of an eye sore.

I wish every football uniform would look something like Michigan?s did earlier with the big ?M?. I see no reason to have a number on the front of the jersey. The jersey itself already has three other spaces for numbers, plus spaces on the helmet and wristbands, etc.

Bold is stuff I agree, strikethrough is stuff I disagree with.

The strikethrough is what I'd expect from most. I am surprised to see how much you agree with though. And to clarify, not exclusively color-on-color, but just a lot more. This would obviously require some teams to have two non-white jerseys, which just won't work for all(Colts, Jets in NFL; Leafs, Lighting in NFL; Celtics in NBA). I just think plenty of teams lose their identity with white jerseys. Color-on-color is just way more visually appealing to me. However, the one notable exception to less that I can think of would be the Philadelphia Flyers. I'd take them in white before black any day.

Haha, yeah, it's the unpopular opinion thread, post your unpopular opinions! Anyway, I just vastly prefer the white jerseys to the colored jerseys, but that's just my opinion. I do like color-on-color in moderation, though.

Any particular reason why? Tradition? I may not think all that highly of soccer, but at least they've got a good system for jerseys.

Perfect? No. But they won tons of titles wearing them. Thus they will stay.

That's terrible logic for keeping a uniform, though. You shouldn't judge whether a team should keep a set solely based on how well they played in them. There's got to be some aesthetics/fashion judgment, too.

I agree.

Should the White Sox still be wearing their 1980s striped jerseys today if they happened to win a lone championship while wearing them?

I hate the Yankees (I am lifelong redsox fan), I don't think the Yankees uniforms are anything special from a strictly fashion standpoint, but there is no question that a certain level of on field success eventually makes a uniform virtually untouchable. I am not talking about a championship here or there, but the Yankees aren't dumping pinstripes, Steelers aren't putting a logo on the other side of their helmet, Canadians aren't changing the CH. They may make subtle tweaks along the way, but the iconic elements of their look remains.

At the highest level of sustained success, an average or even ugly uniform can become untouchable after enough championships.

Which was my original point.

However, there are cases where that's not so. The Islanders and Oilers are good examples, although they're both getting back to their traditional looks (sans Islanders bfbs abomination).

Wow Casey, those are unpopular. You picked the right place for them though ;) In fact there are two that I agree with.

I'd love to see hockey go with primary/clash sweaters rather then with home/road. That doesn't necessarily mean colour vs colour. The Maple Leafs and Red Wings, for example, would probably use their whites as their primaries and their darks as their clashes, but I agree in principal. There's no reason a Canadiens/Bruins game can't be red vs black.

Also, I like the Phoenix Coyotes' uniforms. I prefer the pre-Edge set, but I don't mind the Edge set either. The old Picasso Coyote/southwestern look was unique, yes, but it just didn't work for me. To many colours. Were they a black team? A brick team? A green team? An orange team? It was an experiment worth doing, but ultimately the team made the right choice going traditional. Which they managed to do right, unlike a certain team on the west coast of Florida. The Coyotes went with a very traditional striping pattern, but it was one that, at the time, wasn't in us anywhere else in the league. They also went a simplified two colour scheme, but rather then ape one used elsewhere they used a unique colour that ties into the region. Classic with a modern/regional twist, as it were. If they would just bring back the waist stripes they would look perfect.

What bothers the hell out of me is that the coyotes have this awesome cream/sand color that vibes so well with the brick and white, yet they hide the cream/sand instead of embracing it. Their new look has always felt so unfinished.

I don't know if this has been mentioned in this thread before, but I think it could be a good idea for the NFL to allow the use of alternate helmets for teams that are willing to put them to use.

Eh, it could start a terrible trend. If one team does it, pretty much every team will jump on board to get in on the money craze. I really don't think the NFL needs more alternate-anything right now.

The problem is that the NFL uses helmets as secondary logos (and in the case of the Browns, the primary logo). The NFL wants to maintain brand consistency, so they're going to shoot down alternate helmets outside of the throwback alternate.

I highly doubt most teams would jump on board even if it was allowed, particularly teams with a lot of tradition, for example Cowboys, Steelers, Packers, Browns. But for teams that have a lot of historical capital like Jags, and Panthers and don't have as easy of time getting noticed (outside of winning of course) it could possibly help, in this regard.

Haha only two? Wow. Yeah I see how that will have to happen for teams with only one team color other than white like the Wings and Leafs. They would be the ones that should have a white jersey. But there's no reason a team should have to wear white if they have a light color in their scheme. Why couldn't the Predators make their yellow the road jersey and have a blue version has a home? That'd look pretty sharp to me. Think back to the Kings original purple and yellow jerseys. Why can't the Wild have just a red and green jersey? No color with clash with both. I'd fully support a European clash style system for jerseys. I'd think that could built some strong team identity if fans see more of teams colors...Perhaps a few teams could maybe have a white third. Maybe. But like I said earlier, I'd rather have the orange be primary for the Flyers, and white be clash. No black jerseys for them. Those were terrible.

As far as the Coyotes go, I can't understand the hatred for the current set. And more importantly the love for the previous set. Is it some crazy 90s nostalgia, an extreme love for the unusual and rare in sports design? We all know that the Coyotes aren't an old, traditional team? But why can't they? Just because a team is new, doesn't mean they have to look like crap. There was too many colors in the previous scheme. And the crazy patterns were all over. The colors and scheme did scream Arizona, but also screamed out-of-date. However, the new red works better for Arizona and matches the Dbacks and Cardinals in similar color scheme. I don't know about other people, but I really like it when various franchises in cities use similar colors a la Pittsburg. And the striping, while traditional, looks great. And as much as a hate more and more black jerseys and loathe the spread in sports, I can stand to see the black alt. I know some don't, but I can like the running coyote. It's different. Sure the regular head would probably work fine, but why not get some variety done properly. And the more modern pattern doesn't bother me at all. It's nice. Overall the whole set works together nicely to represent Arizona. Kind of too bad it'll be gone soon. Oh wait no...Hello Seattle!

But I still love the new Lightning uniforms. They're beautiful. I don't see what not to like.

Wasn't this the plan for the Seahawks at some point early on in the current rebrand? Silver at home, dark at away? But the NFL quickly nixed the idea, I believe.

Well the big thing that bugs me is colors that don't match in uniforms. Partly why I hate the Cowboys set. If the Saints could match the throwback pants to the helmet that could just be one of the best uniforms. I hate white helmets because they never match up, in both hockey and football. From a certain distance you can't tell, but close up you can. I liked the colored helmets in hockey like the Rangers and Caps did in the WC. However, I recognize that the Dolphins and Cardinals might have too busy of decals for a colored helmet in NFL. While it might look cleaner, I'm sure they could all pull off a color. The Colts, Jets, and Bills could all invert easily. And I'm sure the Chargers and Titans could pull off a dark lid.

If they were an Original Six team, they'd be okay (but still unspectacular). What drags the uniform down for people, including myself, is that a non-traditional franchise in Tampa Bay is playing Original Six Dress-up and borrowing heavily from the Maple Leafs and Red Wings to do so. Not to mention, in their rush to force in elements of a tradition they don't have, they eliminated the one defining aesthetic tradition they did have - the victory stripes.

How would alternate helmets start a "money craze"? The number of replica helmets sold is miniscule, at least compared to other apparel. Alternate helmets may present the problem of diluting the brand just to grab attention, but that's another issue.

What's the deal with the victory stripes anyway? They wore them before they won the Cup.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

This is exactly what everyone who doesn't like the new uniforms thinks.

EDIT: And the thing is, their two previous uniforms were great. And they've canned it.

I also love the Steelers' rounded numbers. It's something unique to the league, and sets them apart. I hate the Steelers, but love the rounded numbers.
