2011-12 NBA Logo & Uniform changes

Thanks to the NBA League Pass free preview, I just saw the first commercial exclusively dedicated to an alt jersey. During the Jazz-Kings game, CSN aired a commercial that alternated between shots of Sacramento's new black alt and their players. All of the jerseys shown had custom last names like "dedication" or "effort." Stuff like that. Then it ended on a shot of a No. 6 jersey with "honor" on the back and the voiceover said something like "It's an honor to wear black" (after several references like "it's woven into the fabric of the team.") Bizarre.

Bizarre, but I'm up for anything that promotes that black jersey. Love that script.

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

Looks like the Knicks finally put the new logo at halfcourt. They've been using the old one with black (no triangle) for a few years now and the first half of this year.

It did not look good, liked it better with black. I know they're phasing out the black, but something about the gray on the huge mid court logo looked off to me.

Agreed. Black worked on the logos, although the uniforms are better without them (the 90's throwbacks are perfect). But black works as a complement color on the logo. All that grey washes the whole thing out.

Wow, you are not kidding.

I love the actual logo, but it looks off on the court. Did they change the logos color to fit what was on the court? That could be why it looks really weird.

This is also the first time the full triangle logo was used at center court this way. It was at center court in the late 90's-early 2000's but it was within the circle.

That looks okay, but the roundball logo before the black used grey in the same manner, and it worked pretty well as a neutral color, I feel. I agree that the triangle should be gone, however, and the logo should be much smaller.

Quick and dirty Knicks court concept:

Approximation of the MSG marquee on the baseline since it already says "Knicks" at center court, MSG is enough of a big deal to have that real estate, and it clears up the rest of the court. Logo is nice and small like it was in 1994, as I recall. I feel this is a better way to do classic minimalism than four-tone stain and no paint anywhere.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Every time I really look closely at NBA logos the more I'm reminded just how awful a lot of them are. For all the bad logos out there, there isn't a league that looks worse than the NBA IMO.

I agree with this and I think it's because a team's actual logo is such a small part of the uniform design. The logo might be on the shorts or above the player's name, but even those are small. With all other sports, the primary logo is such a big part of the uniform that a bad logo brings the whole set down. In basketball, you can have a good uniform without having a good logo.

The Knicks are overdue for a court redesign.

Speaking of which, I'm dumbfounded by how MSG can hold so many college basketball games but not have a second court. Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland has college basketball four days a year (for the MAC tournament) and even they have a different court from what the Cavs use.

The Knicks' center court and primary logo should be the subway token, and there should be no black in it. The contrast issue between the blue and orange should also be fixed.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

This would look awesome at center court, I think.
