I'm surprised so many people dislike the Blue Jackets Home and Road sets. I think they're classy. That alt is just awful though.

What it really comes down to, is the third looks better, is more unique, and better fits the image than the home and road.

Double blue as a fad is already passing, roundels are becoming more rare, and fewer and fewer teams are using vintage white. Maybe they'll have all of them to themselves and end with a unique look that was at one time very fad-driven.

Agree 100%

The Blue Jackets current primary jerseys are just awful. I don't know how manage to make an overused scheme like Red Navy and White even more dull but that's exactly what they've done. The only point of interest on the Home jersey aside from the logos are razor Red and White pipes that only exacerbate how poorly designed the Edge uniform system is (ditch the scooped hems already!) While I hate the vintage white, everything else concerning the alternate looks great. Thick, broad striping, a much more unique colour scheme and a logo far superior to that All Star Game knock off.

Disagree 100% with pretty much every point you made, but the only one I'm going to contest is the alternate logo being superior to the primary.

- The third jersey logo was basically designed by management using clipart and wordart. As much has been documented. The primary and secondary are modern classics that manage to take a concept as broad and intangible as a Blue Jacket and cleanly renders a logo that is emblematic of the state and the state's capital city while the secondary handles the nickname. The alternate logo is better in what way? Looks? Fails. Creativity? It's a roundel. Fail. Solidly rendered? Nope. Too detailed.

And calling the primary an "all-star game knockoff" is silliness. Because it has a star?

I don't mind the alternate uniform. In fact, I own a jersey and I have both logos on my car, but it's not an every game uniform. The primaries are and that's why they're now in year 3 with no foreseeable plans to dump them for the alternates. I've watched every Columbus Blue Jackets game since 2009 and truth be told, I think the alternates have grown stale while I still haven't grown tired of the regular uniforms.

That alt jersey crest is not a good logo for a hockey team. Looks more like something you'd see as part of a war museum's branding. And yeah, I know there's the whole Civil War history thing going with the Blue Jackets identity which would supposedly make this logo more befitting, but it just doesn't work on a hockey jersey. If they're gonna use a cannon as a primary logo, it needs to be more stylised, less detailed, and maybe not stuck in a faux old school roundel.

That said, this logo wouldn't look too out of place in a low-level UK ice hockey league. And that's not a good thing.

Oh lord. This just makes the whole thing worse.

I was with you until that. The jerseys are pretty good, but I've always thought the current primary logo is terrible.

Well, IMO, obviously. I'm thinking about getting a tattoo of it. I think it's that good.

Since when are roundels becoming more rare? Eight teams currently wear them, and only one had dropped theirs in recent years (Florida).

And keeping those aspects (double-blue, vintage white, roundel, fauxback) once everyone else drops them won't make the Blue Jackets look unique or have them make those aspects their own. They'll just look oh-so 2000s, like a team wearing their gradient-filled, over-outlined jerseys past the 90s.

How is a state flag wrapping around a star kind of silly? I'm not saying its the best logo ever, but it's far from being a bad one.

I'm Danny fkn Heatley, I play for myself. That's what fkn all stars do.

my only complaint with the logo is that it has absolutely nothing at all to do with the name blue jackets.

i like when they look civil-war-like. the star wrapped in an ohio flag just looks like a logo for the state capital (which columbus IS... granted), but it has nothing at all to do with the name blue jackets. at least the cannon logo does. as does the cap logo.

it's not a BAD logo... i just wish it was better. it's boring. would be great for a team called the ohio stars. or the columbus capitals.

As you can tell from the responses to this post, the overall opinion is near-split 50/50.

Me, I think they should keep it the way it is.

I wonder what that jersey would look like if you took the cannon out of the roundel.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

My problem with the home and road set is that the striping's a pale imitation of the 2003-07 alternate. The Blue Jackets would greatly improve their look if they just used that alternate design straight up instead of the inferior pattern they use now.

I don't mind it when a team's logo isn't a literal representation of what their name is. Like the Canucks, or the Blackhawks or Flyers even, you're not sure what exactly the logo is illustrating in connection with the name, but that's ok. It's interesting gives the team's identity an extra level. I love the name Blue Jackets and personally I'm over the moon that they don't have a soldier in a blue jacket as their logo. That would be 100 times worse than the star and ohio flag, even though to some of you that would make waaaaay more sense.

Change the Jackets' Home/Road pants to blue and it instantly makes them one of the top teams looks-wise, IMO. The alternate wouldn't be as bad if they got rid of the yolk and used a different font, but the logo still sucks as a crest for a hockey team. A soccer team, maybe.

The Blue Jacket's identity is about as storied as their history as a hockey team. Nobody was heaping praise on the current alternate logo, I was just saying it's better than any other logo the team has had which is no huge feat. The current primary jerseys are among the most dull and uninspired in league history. At least the alternate has an acceptable striping pattern & doesn't resort to the tired Navy Red and White scheme.
