Jungle Jim
Given the on-field performance of the Browns, it'd be more like tearing down the house of the guy who lost the American Revolution. No offense, but I think basing a uniform change (or not) on a team's performance is kind of stupid. The Raiders used to be one of the most successful franchises in the NFL. Now they are a laughingstock. Using your logic, Oakland should replace one of the best uniforms in football simply because the team has sucked for the past however many years.I'm a Pittsburgh fan and I saw an opportunity to take a shot at Cleveland. I took it. Sue me.My post wasn't even saying that they should change uniforms for that reason. I was "amending" a metaphor comparing the Browns and George Washington. The joke was that the Browns would be more comparable to a person who was not associated with a very victory, such as "the guy who lost the revolution"./explanationActually, it was a metaphor comparing the Browns uniforms to a historic building. IceCap
Not to mention the history attached to the current look...I'm no fan of teams playing musical record books, and I do believe that the NFL and Cleveland's insistence that the current Browns and the historic Browns are the same entity is ridiculous. That being said? The NFL does attach the historic Browns' records to the current Browns team. Those records include four AAFC championships, four NFL championships, eleven NFL conference championships, and sixteen hall of famers. Including a player many consider to be one of the, if not the, greatest running backs of all time.So it's incredibly naive to say "the Browns' uniforms are only associated with losing." They're not. Historically speaking? They're incredibly significant and to argue otherwise is to be either stubbornly ignorant or just a younger fan who can't be bothered to research a team's history beyond the last five years. Having a team with the Browns' pedigree (as tenuous as I'd argue it is) dressing up in a Nike space aged clown suit? It would be like putting the Boston Celtics in sleeved jerseys. Oh wait, they did that didn't they? We're all doomed. Chewbacca
Here's some innovation... Isn't it beautiful? XD This is the special Press Release: There's Ultimate Volt to represent the glorious future this team will have because they ditched their classic uniforms, Tackle Carbon Grey to show the strength of Cleveland and its team, florescent Cleveland Orange because their orange is Cleveland's Orange and Chewbacca Brown so that they can aspire to be as tough as Wookies. XD It features a bunch of lines everywhere because Classic looks don't have supreme innovation and are considered terrible because people want to mess with good things to feel good about themselves and to make more money, plus, it is super lightweight because the lines and stuff are all taped on. This jersey is 0.000000000004656347657346578346546% lighter than its predecessors and because of this, Cleveland will be Super Bowl contenders right away. Modern looks are soooooo much better because all the new moderninity allows the team to feel great about themselves and so that the players can aspire to greater things. Unfortunately, the Cleveland Browns will probably have something that's this bad. Hopefully I'm wrong but after Tampa Bay's disaster set, I can't see myself being wrong on this. Do the Bears and Raiders need to ditch their iconic looks just because they've fallen on hard times as of late? No.As for connecting uniforms to history? It's all connected. A team is a business. A business has a brand. What makes up the brand of a sports team? History and aesthetics are a huge part of that. Try to tell me that the New York Yankees' history can be divorced from the pinstripes. Or that the Cardinals' history can be divorced from the birds on the bat. You can't. The Browns have been terrible since their "return," but that only really speaks to the strength of their brand. This is a brand that represents a decade + of losing, yet the team's fans remain incredibly loyal to it. Despite being mostly irrelevant they have one of the most notable helmets in the NFL.The Browns' current brand isn't weak or ugly or stale or boring because of the losing. It's strong, bold, and cultivates a loyal following and strong recognition despite the losing. Why is that? History. daveindc
The Browns have had essentially the same look since they were formed in the 40s. It truly might be the end of an era. I would never do more than a tweak or two to that uniform. Some things need to be preserved. But hey, why keep that primitive, old, historic house where George Washington once lived when you can tear it down and build a shiny, new Wal-Mart? Just because something is old, doesn't make it special. No, but the Browns' uniforms are. So...there's that. There's a lot of people who don't share your opinion. So...I'm sure there's "a lot," but I'm also sure they're in the minority.I'm pretty sure they're in the majority. I've heard more people call the Browns' uniform ugly than anything else over the years.I'm pretty sure 99.9% of people outside of Cleveland and these forums don't even give a bit of thought to the Browns' uniforms.I don't see any way that they can be considered "ugly" (except for those brown pants). I can understand words like boring, dull, generic, dated (not that I agree with all of those) but not 'ugly".I'm in the camp that believes that they can be improved, and is looking forward to what is coming (while hoping it's not super Nikified). At the same time, there;'s nothing wrong with them now (except for the stripeless brown pants). If they brought back the orange pants full time I'd be happy. Are you an actual sports fan? People make comments about uniforms all the time when they are watching games on T.V. They don't have to be from Cleveland, or be a regular poster on a sports uniforms forum to have an opinion.I've heard the color combo (not that I'm suggesting they change that) described as ugly , as well as the overall look. I've heard all those other words used to describe the uniform as well.
CLEstones
I won't mind some sort metallic fabric/outline, similar to the Pro Bowl uniforms last year, or even putting a larger emphasis on gray, or even introducing a copper/rust color. But I just don't want to see some sort of contrived font like the Buccs or something that is hard to read like the Jags. I hope they do infuse some modern aspects to the uniforms, but reserve it small aspects (Miami and Minnesota font) as opposed to larger aspects (Jacksonville and Tampa Bay shoulders/sleeves). MDGP
I kind of find it funny that a ton of people are clamoring for the Browns to bring back the orange pants. I'm clearly in the minority on this one because I think the orange pants look is the worst look in the team's history and the brown pants look so much better. I even like the all brown better than the brown over orange. Ideally, the Browns will go Orange-Brown-White at home, and Orange-White-Brown on the road.Which means we'll get something horrible, since everything involving Haslam turns out horribly. I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence! FiddySicks
I think the Orange pants are awful too. Ideally, the Browns would only use white pants for all of their sets. The all white road look is about as classic Cleveland Browns as you can get. That right there, is beautiful. The more I think about this rebrand, the more bummed I am that they may be going away from that. I actually hope the Browns find a way to somehow go even more retro than they are now. I think with HGI's technology, they could probably find a way to pull that off. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) The uniforms in that picture are outstanding. Personally, I don't know if I would want the Browns in Orange pants all the time, even though Orange is my favorite colour but you know what, after seeing this picture, they should scrap their Nike disaster and just wear orange pants a few home and road games a year instead. As for the Rams, if you're reading this, the Navy and Old Gold need to go. Go back to the Royal Blue and Golden Yellow right now. No Flywire, no Nike innovation, just bring those jerseys back and say no to the Plasticrap Flywire.Frankly, I don't get the fascination with the Browns' uniforms. Imo they have never looked good. Bring on the revamp.Especially if the revamp looks like my innovative thing of beauty that I now proudly use as my Avatar on this site. It deserves universal praise. It is the best design ever made for the Browns and everyone knows it. The Browns will be so proud of the innovation. There's Tackle Carbon Grey, Ultimate Volt, Cleveland Orange. Yeah, their own shade of Orange and Chewbacca Brown. How can you not want the Browns in Chewbacca Brown. They will be beating teams like Wookies beating on StormTroopers. How can you not want the Browns to be inspired by Wookies? Come on, they are the toughest and the best ever. Hopefully the revamp will prove us wrong but with Nike's track record, I'm not so open with the idea of a revamp.
