I do love those Air Force helmets. A nice nod to the Thunderbirds. Hopefully they can notch a win in 'em.

I think the T-birds' look is just all over the place. I'm definitely biased, but so far as aircraft go, the Blue Angels have a much cleaner look.

The Zoomies' unis today are interesting, but I hope this doesn't stick. I think with a few tweaks they could look a little less slapped together. I don't like the red outline of the white text on a navy blue (yes it is) background, and the shoulder stripes are clearly meant to match the pants, but the white and red stripes around the blue doesn't look right either. I think, even though you don't usually see white at home, a white jersey would pull the look together better.

Although I'm definitely a homer when it comes to service academies, I hated the monstrosity the Mids played Army in last year.

Regardless, I'm excited to see the CINC's trophy again in its rightful place in Bancroft Hall this December!

I absolutely LOVE those Air Force helmets. The rest of the uniform is rather underwhelming-but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

I'd love to see AF adapt this look to fit their regular scheme a bit more: lighter blue, an updated thunderbolt, some reference at all to a falcon.

The service academies have really impressed me with their uniforms. Last year's Army-Navy, this year's Air Force. I love it. USA! USA! USA!

I don't see that one happening this year.

I like both looks... the Blue Angels might look better, but a bit more bland too. I see bland looking jets every single day (though those bland looking jets aren't navy and yellow, but I digress), so I like what the Thunderbirds do, especially the bottom of the jets.

I'm not huge on the uniforms, just the helmets mostly. I like the idea another poster had of modeling the uniforms after the flight suits, though. It'd be an ugly look, I think, but it'd fit.

The bird on the bottom of the T-birds is my favorite part. But most US military jets are pretty bland. I saw an ANG viper painted in bright pre-WWII colors, with yellow wings and blue fuselage and a red and white striped rudder, it was awesome. I guess the Guard can get away with that stuff some times. At least Navy fighters have at least one jet per squadron done up in a high-viz paint scheme, it breaks up the monotony.

Back to the uniforms, it's probably because I tend to prefer simple, clean designs that I'm not a big fan of today's AF look. I didn't like the red panels all over the Mids' unis last year or the Marine Corps blood stripe on the pants (for aesthetic and philosophical reasons). I also don't like the EGA on the Mids' shoulders. I think they should stick with the fouled anchor on both shoulders or, if the Marines insist on the EGA, the ACE from the Navy Seal should go on the opposite shoulder and be about 85% larger.

Yeah, I'm a mechanic on the jet (B-1 Lancer) in my signature. The only uniqueness on a jet by jet basis is some small nose art. The bland designs serve their purpose, though.

I'm with you, I don't really have a preference towards simple or more modern uniform design, as both can look good and both can look bad. On the service academies, though, I tend to like simple design. I hate when Army-Navy go with alternate designs when they play since their actual uniforms are so nice (Although the digital camo-black uniforms Army wore a few years back were great).

A agree that a white jersey would pull this look together even better. I think the shoulder stipes could be solved using the Jets homes as a template:

Shoulder stripes from inside out should go red-white-blue, and then make the sleeves white (like the New York Jets).

Indiana's uniforms look like certified ass. It's really a shame, too, because they actually have a nice-looking helmet. If they could kill the side-panel blob thing and go with something more like what Kentucky has now, it would serve that uniform so much better.

As is, though...ick.

Indiana needs to get an identity, they have been trying for a couple years to go the burgundy route but have just ended up looking like oklahoma. They need to go back to a varsity red and change the white to cream (to distinguish themselves from Wisconsin and Nebraska) or add a color like gold to the mix.

I'm pretty well positive Indiana's red is actually "crimson".

Tulane continuing to prove that they have the most underrated uniforms in all of college football:

Tulane is going the way of USF....away from their school colors. Sadly. (both going with white helmets)

Except that Tulane has a 30+ year history of wearing white shells and only about a 10 year history of wearing green shells. I prefer the white for Tulane.

Gimmicky? Yes.

But do I like it? Yes.

I think I'd like it more if the jerseys and pants were flight-suit olive drab...

My gut tells me they were modeled after the jumpsuits the T'birds wear:

What an interesting picture...you have six field grade officers in flight suits (not jumpsuits, that's what criminals wear), including one Major with his number upside down on his suit (#5), yet the plane has two Tech Sgt names on it.

As an Army guy, I'd be surprised if the field grades are still flying the T'Birds, but maybe that's how the Air Force works.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I should add that Tulane beat Rutgers wearing those beauties!

Roll Wave!
