  1. A good step up in your font choices for St Louis compared to your old version, and smart to go outline-less at home. I like the pinkish-cream away color quite a bit. Also, the home and away are fine, but those stripy socks are making me wish for a diagonal stripes jersey as the third! Still kinda feeling the empty space of that Crew logo from before... How would just the hard hat as the crest be? Also I like the yellow and white jerseys quite a bit; I'd personally prefer those as home and away, since the black kit is sorta plain. I like the number font choice and the arched name on back a lot! Maybe getting ahead of myself with those colorways... Excited to see my Sounders in those gorgeous shades of blue & green, and curious what's going on with Austin in orange & purple and Nashville in peach. Also, just one NY team, eh? Kinda funny that New Orleans appears to get a team before Sacramento or NY team 2 : P
  2. Always a special treat to see some quality Cascadian soccer content here! Hope your move has treated you and your partner well. The counter-color collar plackets on Tillamook's away and Eugene are kinda odd, but those jerseys are otherwise really nice. I like the logo for Tillamook. Even as colorful as it is normally, it looks even better when in just 1 color on the away! The idea of using it as a T monogram is a bit of a stretch though : P Linn County's jerseys are really great; the best of the bunch so far! If I had any jersey suggestions, it'd be to ditch the second sleeve stripes (the peach one at home, the white one away), but otherwise they're perfect. The logo is solid, especially that font, but I kinda want something inside that roundel... A full filbert? Florence's and Oregon City's kits aren't far behind though, and I love their logos so much too : ) I love the dunes for Florence; I had a very pleasant visit there a while back. End of the Trail's home jersey is really classy, though I can't help but wonder if a white back would work? Not feeling the banner on Portland's otherwise solid logo; maybe replace it with an "SC" to the right of the stem of the P. Also I think maybe yellow socks at home would be better than white? Anyways, excellent work as always!
  3. Gorgeous look for Argentina! Love that pattern, and the Sol de Mayo on its own looks great. Agree that the number is hard to read; maybe cream would work better than gold? I'm 50-50 about Liberty as a standalone crest (maybe a smaller flag would look better?) but the side stars really help balance it out. The fleurs being out of line with the stripes are kinda odd, but otherwise a really nice pattern! Championship stars are too big for my taste on both.
  4. Another MLS ownership group has been mentioned a lot recently for an expansion team, Nashville: This new brand is a reference to Music City and the Platinum record award, and the logo is a reworked version of the USL-era Nashville SC roundel. (It deserves to be resurrected somehow!) Hopefully the rivalry vs Atlanta wouldn't be too weird with two music-themed teams :P The home jersey's pattern is based on the resonator guitar. The away jersey is inspired by the titular garment of Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors, specifically the version found in the Country Music Hall of Fame. I hear that Dolly's a legend in Tennessee, but personally I don't know much about her or her music, so if any of you are fans of hers, I'd appreciate your thoughts on this one... Thanks!
  5. The Scorchers look really great; a really nice adaption of the real thing to a sleeveless jersey. My only suggestion would be to enlarge the Surrey wordmark on the road and to shift the numbers up a bit. Pretty neutral about the Royals set, but I have no serious complaints. Not crazy about the double-outlined text but it's okay. I guess I'd prefer cuff striping on the shorts here, like your Leicester concept has. I feel similarly about your Leicester set, though the gold feels quite out of place at home. The alternate is kinda fun, and I wonder if there could be another cinquefoil emanating from the top? I think if the Rockets' gradients were simplified (i.e. at home: yellow pants, black/red/yellow instead of Bk/R/Y/R/Bk, away: black pants, yellow/red/black instead of Y/Bk/R), they'd be excellent, but as-is they're not quite there. Much like your Flyers set, the alt is quite nice. I'm not feeling the Bears set. The script treatment and font really don't appeal to me, especially that away gradient text. I'd rather see a modernization of this retro logo, but if you keep the ripped Vancouver Grizzlies logo, arched text a-la Indiana Pacers around it would probably work well. Thinner side panel stripes would also be nicer, I think. On the other hand, the colors are good, and the color hierarchy at home is nice. The road color hierarchy could use some work (maybe all teal collar/sleeve trim and all brown text?) Lastly, the Lions are looking really classy! Much better than the bland jerseys I see in their photos. That alternate is fun without going overboard, for sure. Funny that their logo conveys "Royals" better than the Royals' one, though that's not on you :P
  6. I guess I'd need to see it before I could be sure, but I imagine that a less skinny sans serif font would work better? Just something that looks good when paired with the script; I think the license plate font can live off in its own branding world, as the City Connect stylings tend to. I really appreciate the red/teal/copper color scheme for Arizona, and the color balancing is pretty nice on the home/away/red jerseys. Contrary to popular opinion, I'm not a fan of purple for the Diamondbacks, but your incorporation of red into that pinstripe alt is pretty well done. I like the sleeve patch a lot; it's a nice composition! I wonder if it'd be better with the DB logo un-outlined, with the tongue floating separately as it does here. Lastly, I'd suggest going with the arched name on all the jerseys. Anyways, more good work here!
  7. Yeah, I can't think of any real world teams using dark green and pink, but someone should! Closest thing I know of is the unofficial Newfoundland flag. At least there's one New Mexico team that uses the turquoise-yellow-red scheme :) Glad you like the jersey designs; they can take a while :P Thanks! Okay; I think I have a basic idea for an alternate take on a Bay Area team from this... I'll try it out.
  8. Sorry, I'm confused, does one of the existing concept look too much like a jellyfish? Or were you thinking about a new jellyfish-themed team? I wonder what city that could work for... Miami, perhaps? ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ Anyways, here's Austin! @mcrosby has already done "Austin City", so I thought it would be fun to go with the other half of that reference here... But idk maybe that's a bit much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The logo is based on the Barton Springs salamander endemic to Austin, forming an "a" shape. Much like their brother club, the home jersey has vertical green stripes, but with a Hill Country-themed pattern. The away is based on the armor of the nine-banded armadillo.
  9. The tower already looks a lot better and intentional this way! Though I agree the IRL crest's tower is a bit overexaggerated, I still think a tiny bit more detail, either by adding a lip and/or a bit of crenellation, will make the idea much clearer without sacrificing too much realism. Also are the roses better somewhere in between? Perhaps aligned with the blue stripes?
  10. Not too long after I posted that San José concept, the rumblings of expansion continued, revealing that bids for the Utah Royals, Toronto, Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Austin are also very much in the running. I've already done the first three, so here's one of the latter two: The name resurrects an old brand in Cincinnati soccer, the Riverhawks / Ladyhawks. I'm giving them the overall organization's name (since it's not in use anymore, it reflects Cincy a touch more, and "Ladyhawks" certainly feels out of place in 2022), but the records and foundation year of the original women's team (which outlived the men's side.) Since the expansion bid is apparently associated with FC Cincy, the logo is modified from that team's brand. The top of the badge takes the shape of the tower of the Roebling Bridge. The home jersey is loosely inspired by the checker pattern on parts of the Cincinnati Music Hall. The Reds colorway away jersey is based on the bannisters and smokestacks of the local riverboats. Hope you like it; C&C appreciated!
  11. Well-rendered terrier and a really nice modernization of that 2000 logo! I'd suggest moving the roses to flank the "1908" instead, and adding a touch more detail to the Tower might make it a bit clearer (maybe keep the shape of the top tower section from the IRL badge.)
  12. I tend to prefer the current Jets logo/colors over the older ones, but this lovely combination keeps the old brand from feeling bland; one of the best concepts I've seen using the old logo! I like the little jet-only pants logo too :) I guess my only complaint is that the two wordmarks, both present on the same jersey, are kinda at odds... What about, as a shoulder logo, putting the current logo in a retro style (sorta like this?) Lastly, I'm kinda curious how a version of the white jersey with an aviator blue base would work. Solid set for the Caps! The pink alt's blue/pink/white/red striping pattern is strange but not necessarily bad, and to at least to an outsider, every DC team could probably go for a blossom uniform :) I love your take on the Tampa Gasparilla jersey; the bolt on the skull is really nice and the color balancing is well done. The gradient alt is also nice, though I'm curious if it'd look better with plain black between and underneath the hem stripes. Can't decide whether the gradient stripe for Vancouver is great or terrible (would blue/white/green/white/blue work?), but otherwise an all-around gorgeous set! Love those two alternates. The changes for Seattle are kinda lateral at best, but certainly a clever idea that's worth a try. Maybe having the tentacle between the medium blue and the red would be better (albeit less distinct.) The alternates are quite close but not quite there. I agree with you about the Metros jersey nameplate, so I think you could just have the name in navy directly on the light blue striping, and I'd move the sleeve numbers down to be on a navy stripe. As for the other, I love the idea of a green, emerald-themed Kraken jersey... I'd suggest a much thicker outline on the anchor logo, replacing all white with the lightest blue, and ditching the blue outlines on the stripes' gem triangles in favor of coloring them in slightly different shades of green. Anyways, congrats on making it through the league! Good work here all around.
  13. The set looks good with the return of the sleeve stripes. The license plate-themed alternates are a gorgeous fauxback style! They would work great for the City jersey. I'd suggest ditching the outlines on the cap logo and really thickening the outlines on the sleeve logo. I like the idea of the periwinkle alternate too, though I'm not feeling the addition of a *second* spurred font to the identity (including in the sleeve patch), so I recommend sticking with the other number font. Also, the sleeve patch could still stand to be red, I think, perhaps with navy outlines. Yeah, people like throwbacks, but does that make it worth ditching a perfectly good uniform? :P I guess my ideal group here would be your cream home, pink away, red home alt, powder blue away alt, and white City alt. Anyways, looking forward to seeing the other teams you have planned!
  14. I'm not crazy about the Waterdogs brand, but dang do your little changes make it look so much better here! The more interesting striping and counter-color shorts are really nice. That alternate is so classy; possibly my favorite of the series so far. I appreciate the way you handle the additional shorts pattern for the Chaos; very nice change to an already solid look for them! The home and away for the Redwoods are close, but a lot of little things keep them from working for me. Compared to the IRL inspiration, the trees feel too wide and too low on the jersey. The wood-grain pattern feels out of place on just the sleeves; IMO it should either be removed OR be over all the forest green. The emerald green of the jersey trees and the kelly green of the shorts trees make the uniform feel disjointed. Lastly, I'm not feeling the counter-colored shorts at home; I'm curious if counter-colored helmets and socks would be better. That said, the third has none of these issues, so it's pretty gorgeous. I'd just go forest green socks for that one, and that's about it! I really like the Chrome third; how would it look with un-outlined numbers?
  15. A couple more updates to previous designs: First, I wasn't quite happy with the composition of my Cranes concept, so I tried a slightly more abstract approach. Here's the comparison, along with the otherwise unchanged jerseys: And also, a very slight update to the North Carolina jerseys, and the introduction of a modified logo. The lion face is a mid-point between the WUSA-era and current logos, and the shield is now an acorn shape to represent Raleigh, the City of Oaks. (The oak tree train of thought was inspired by @sparkychewbarky's Wizard of Oz-themed "Courage" logo, whose silhouette has prongs that look like oak trees!) Hopefully those two are improvements on before. New expansion team coming next!
  16. That BFBS jersey is probably my favorite one here! It's more realistic how you have it, but I'd love it more with a higher hem stripe to fit a royal color block underneath. Bummer to imagine that "stealth" jersey being adopted as a full-time set in 2022... Not really feeling the color balancing on that set; that powder blue and ghosted fleurs feel out of place. Say what you will about the Oilers' navy jerseys, but they at least have a clear color hierarchy. I think the royal & navy set of '98 looks really nice, and you do a good job showing it decaying (for a lack of a better word) through the Edge changes. I wonder if this would lead the Jets to adopt a different logo and color scheme? Anyways, fun idea; thanks for sharing!
  17. The A's look surprisingly good in powder blue! (It'd work for the Portland move they've considered ) I'd think going solid color script & numbers would be better and look truer to the Royals inspo though (I'd lean towards green, but white would be in the spirit of that...) Also I wonder if a different pants stripe would work better. Royals in blackletter look quite good! Another one I'd be curious about a full set (though not all monochrome!) Perhaps a little crown could be skewed to fit that diagonal stroke of the R. The Royals-à-la-St. Louis set is quite nice, and using the Monarchs monogram is a good touch! Would tilting the script to be horizontal work, to be more Cards-y? I could also imagine a bat (or scepter?) running the eye of the R, maybe with a crown dangling around the end. No slight to your BFBS Cards set, which is interesting and well-executed, but I would be curious to see another take. Perhaps in powder blue. Your green & red Red Sox take is close but is a bit underwhelming compared to your gorgeous Brewers one... I think having a symmetrical clover in white would help. The script and cap logo are nice though! The Atlanta axe one is definitely a clever idea though, even if it's not my favorite. Anyways, it's been more good work here!
  18. Okay, cool idea! It took me a bit, but here's my take: The Pride name and the Lake Eola fountain stay, but the container changes from the generic roundel to a style inspired by the Apollo 8 mission patch and these IRL team-branded fashion jersey patches. The home jersey is a planet scene with an atmosphere full of palm frond-shaped clouds, and the away jersey is a stripy map of Florida. While I was at it, I've thrown together a couple extra updates and teams, so tune in for a bit more!
  19. First off, this set is a really great extension of the elements from the City jersey! Definitely a nice classic look. Not 100% sold on the number font; I think the current City font or something more similar to the logo would work well. The shade of pink on the away jersey is quite nice, but I worry the contrast is kinda low against cream (which would be a problem at San Francisco and Milwaukee), and I think I'd prefer a red away cap over what you've gone with here. The alternate logo pairs really well with this aesthetic. The container is a nice local flair, and it gels well with those wings. I think the curve of the ball's seams are a bit shallow. It would be nice if they could continue the curve of the wings (not sure if that would that require re-orienting the ball somehow?) Lastly, I'd appreciate the inclusion of the IRL cap and at least one "Anaheim" script jersey somewhere in the set... Anyways, good work!
  20. Those patterns on Angel City look good, though I'd say using both patterns at home feels a little unnecessary. I'd save the diamonds for the away jersey, and just sublimate that lovely fan pattern onto the trim stripes. For the gold away, I'm curious how it'd look with the diamonds squished to be more horizontal, like on the current trim of the home jersey. Lastly, going with the LAFC colors away is totally fine, but I think the home jersey wants some rose gold. Putting my dislike of their identity aside, the Current looks solid; the paintbrush stripe emulating the logo at home is quite nice! Not needed, but would a recolored version with turquoise base and blue stripes (like the logo) work? The color balancing is good, but IMO Louisville is the first miss of the series. The home pattern is kinda bland and the away pattern is kinda busy. I think the away would work better if you staggered upward the lilies in alternating columns, and used more consistent striping. Perhaps you could use the more chaotic striping as the basis for a new home jersey. San Diego looks excellent, especially that away! The vertical stripes extending on the socks are gorgeous. If I had any suggestion, it would be to make the wave pattern on the sleeve trim a lot bigger, make it extend beyond the top of its containing stripe, and have it at home too.
  21. I think your Mersey set is on that exceptional tier with Bristol; those two stand out so much so far in this series! The gradient looks really nice, and the font choice is really cool. If I had any complaints, it'd be the different stroke weights on the text at home (I'd split the difference, personally) and that the away doesn't have the small white collar/sleeve trim like the home does. I like the tartan idea for Glasgow; it makes for a good identifying element and a good use of the colors... But their applications on the shorts and jersey do not gel well. I think the tartan should be consistent across both jersey and shorts, and EITHER stay contained to the side panels OR fill the whole blue base without any gradient. Not feeling the weird inclusion of cyan on the third, but otherwise it looks nice and the mountains are a nice touch (which I wouldn't mind seeing emphasized further!) Manchester's home and away are solid as-is, though a part of me wants to see a forest green gap between the lime side panels and their white trim to match the numbers. I know you're doing a sorta fauxback design, but purple, black, and lime green is a rough color scheme... I think it'd be better if the collar/sleeve trim matched the side panels, leaving only the star of the logo green. That said, I'd imagine a fauxback to this design would be nicer still.
  22. Thank you! Happy to hear my changes to the shades of blue and green aren't too off-putting : P
  23. Thanks for the feedback; always glad to hear it when a fan likes my design for their team! I intentionally had the stick oriented and shaped differently from the others (to try to match the geometric stick Johnny holds) but I can definitely make adjustments: This any better?
  24. Here's the last idea I had for this series; hopefully it's a fitting way to end off... It's my idealized version of the current Canucks branding: The current logo really needs to ditch those ice shards, so those are replaced by a breaking wave. The secondaries are the current Stick in Rink and a Millionaires V. As much as I like Johnny Canuck, they haven't used him well, and it seems they've ceded him to minor-league Abbotsford anyway. The current primary set is based on the '72-'78 set, but I far prefer the NHL Canucks' inaugural '70-'72 uniforms (the inspiration for the current alternate), so that style of striping returns. I also brought in the yoke, cuff stripes, and arched name text as WHL-era Canucks callbacks. Lastly, the awkward Agency FB font the team uses is replaced by the similar Teko. Here's the same design in West Coast Express colors, and with Johnny Canuck instead of the orca: Anyways, suggestions are welcome, as always... Either way, thank you so much for checking the series out, and I hope you enjoyed this second run of Variations!
  25. Thank you so much for your kind words! So happy to hear you've been enjoying the series, and that the latest uniform set came out well. As you can probably tell from this series, I'm torn between WHL-era navy & burgundy or a turquoise/seafoam base for the Canucks myself... : P Also please buy my bed I'm glad you like it, though the praise for the logos has to go to the talented Chase Gray! ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ Before I forget, here's a minor update to my '70s-style Johnny Canuck logo: Hopefully this makes everything just a bit less janky. Plus those old shoes were bothering me, so I redid them and gave them a touch of Flying Skate flair!
