Padres still look like one of the least creative sets in baseball. New players make no difference.

It doesn't look any less "creative" than most other teams' set. It has a clean, classic look to me. It will look better and better to people as the team wins in them.

Random question, have the Red Sox ever worn a white cap in any fashion? I've looked it up but couldn't find anything. I feel a lot of teams could benefit from a white colored cap. Yes, I know some teams sported the cap with the white portion on the front.

Yes, in around 1997. I'll look for a picture. I may even have a ticket with a picture of it. That's where I remember seeing it anyway.

Also every year from 1901 to 1932

It's a less creative version of the set they wore from 04-10. But then they're changing next year, right?

The Padres are one team I prefer in their alts. The whites of this set are so bland. And do we ever see the grays? Miss the khaki. Go blue until you're brown again.

How do they look any more bland than other teams' whites? Although the sand is what made these unis interesting the most, and they have gotten away from it. I still think these look sharp though.

You answered your own question.

The thing I like about the Padres alternates are that you can see their cool double piping because it's white, but it's completely lost on the white and gray jerseys because the piping that touches the edges of the sleeve and neck are the same color as their undershirts.

Agreed. The double piping is the only personality this uni set has, and it only shows up well on the alts.

Plenty of blue and white teams (the sand barely shows in this version), but their niche could be navy over white (or gray). And that appears to be the direction they are going.

If the Padres wanted to commit to the current set (they don't want to commit to anything) they'd make the tan outline on the white jerseys thicker. Currently, that's got to be the thinnest outline of any team in baseball. It's almost like a counterfeit jersey where the outline is just different color stitching. Also, add that tan color to the road and blue jerseys. If you can't use you colors on all your jerseys, you shouldn't have those colors.

The Reds are going to be wearing 1990 throwbacks tonight.

But because it's Majestic and these are pullovers expect the jerseys to be way too big and the sleeves to be way too long. Much longer than even their regular jersey sleeves, for some reason.

That's exactly what that extra gold looks like. Someone's cough-up.

They'd look fantastic without them. I'm in on no pinstripes.

Great to see those Reds throwbacks. I'll have to catch a few minutes of that game. That Reds' font is great. It's one I think of when I say we need to stop the trend of all new rebrands coming with some awful, contrived font. Teams don't always need a proprietary font, and they're often bad (like the Reds' current one). It's great when teams use unique block fonts. To my knowledge, no team in baseball has ever used that font outside of the Reds. The Reds wore it for 30 something years and won three World Series in it. The Reds should wear that font forever.

If anybody here is going to that game, please sneak into the Reds' locker room during the game and burn all their regular game caps so they'll be forced to wear these throwbacks going forward.

Majestic does seem to get confounded by pullovers don't they. These Reds throwbacks are my favs. Grew up with them. Even had pajamas that looked like them....if you're wondering, yes, they had footies. And yes....they were red.

I hate to be pedantic, but the Reds only won the 1990 World Series with that block font. Per Game Worn Jerseys of the Double Knit Era, the Reds used that block font variation from 1985-1998, on both the last of the pullovers and the first pinstriped set. They used a bold variation of block standard in the 1960's-'70's (much like the one the Royals wear on their home uniform now):

However, your point still stands about unique block fonts and how much better they are than proprietary fonts for some teams, especially for classic franchises like the Reds. One of the things I like about the NHL's current state of uniforms is how many teams use unique block variants for their numerals, like the Devils, Flyers, and Blackhawks.

Absolutely love those Reds throwbacks. Caps are also American made poly with the grey underbill and no batter man logo on the back. I must have one.

Seriously, what were the Reds thinking when they decided to ever switch away from this set?

It is absolutely PERFECT. Large blocky simple numbers and names, lack of black drop shadows, those AWESOME stripes! Make this a button up and bring it back full time and it's the best uniform in the bigs.
