So, I don't know if you guys have heard this yet, but Major League Baseball is having fans vote on their favorite team's four most impactful players of all time. These players will be honored in a pregame ceremony before the All Star game.

For my Tigers, I selected Ty Cobb, Charlie Gehringer, Al Kaline, and Alan Trammell.

Only thing that gets me with that is seeing teams like the Washington Nationals. How is that supposed to work exactly? Is a write in for Walter Johnson allowed or do the people there have to be forced into giving a crap about the Montreal Expos?

Also I can vote for Pedro Martinez and Sandy Koufax as the greatest living players of all-time, but have to write in Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson. No Arod on the Mariners ballot either but Alvin Davis is there. Nowhere to be found on the Rangers ballot either.

Yeah this is dumb.

You don't have to know anything about baseball to know how to properly spell Milwaukee. And being in Chicago there is no excuse for misspelling Milwaukee.

I think it's more like mediocrity is so accepted around the franchise that even local stations don't care enough to proofread the intern's work on the intro graphics.

No McQwire on the A's or Cards, Canseco/A's, Pete Rose/Greatest Living, Clemens/Red Sox or Toronto, etc. but you include Barry Bonds on the Giants/Pirates/Greatest Living? And Palmeiro on the Rangers? WTF?!?!?!?

Didn't they just do this hometown hero thing a coupe of years ago?

And a few years before that it was the All-Century team. It'll be something else in another few years.

Interesting with McGwire not being listed in this because he was the backup first basenan to Lou Gehrig on the All-Century team. Shows you how much popular opinion sways these things.

Its fun to debate and talk about because there is no right answer. Anyone claiming to have anything more then an educated opinion is full of it. But in terms of providing an accurate analysis of talent though I don't think this carries any weight whatsoever. Even the term impacful is open to interpretation. Does Jack Morris for instance qualify for the Twins? Not much of a career there but without him they don't have a World Series title. I don't think it qualifies him, but the term is very open to interpertation most likely on purpose.

Its better then Who's Now. I'll give it that at least.

We were better off with the Tribune.

Eh, nowadays Tribune management would mean Rauner would be making the decisions for the team.

1-3 for San Diego.

Are these the same old Padres again?

I think so. For all they added to their offense, starting rotation with Shields, and bullpen with Kimbrel, they still aren't a very good defensive team. That's usually the most overlooked aspect of competitive teams IMO, and I think that'll contribute to their struggles.

It's still SO early, though. Who really knows?
