Wait a minute. Hasn't it already come to light that Greg Jamison was never interested, but that the potential ownership group was being led by Kelowna businessman Gary Jamieson? Is Roenick bull :censored: ing that hardcore?

I was just questioning that a few posts ago. Here is the AP story I referenced from Jan. 28.

http://qctimes.com/sports/hockey/nhl-commissioner-plan-b-for-coyotes-is-premature/article_e8951351-48c8-58a7-90c8-efd29e4b4324.html

Mentions Jamison, which I thought was inaccurate, but who knows.

Two groups known to have expressed interest in the Coyotes are one led by former San Jose Sharks president and CEO Greg Jamison, and another by Chicago sports mogul Jerry Reinsdorf. Without providing names, Bettman on Thursday revealed there is also a third group that's shown "serious" interest in the team.

Again, I thought that was the whole point of the thread title.

Jamison, Jamieson, let's call the whole thing off.

Instead of changing the name of this thread, let's just pin it, as this situation is likely to outlast the existence of humanity anyway.

When the story about Jamieson broke, people (including myself) questioned whether Jamison was ever involved. Looking back through all the stories regarding the former Sharks CEO, everything was non-commital and vague. At no point did he say, or even imply that he was actually trying to buy the Coyotes.

While I believe that Glendale council or Phoenix media might confuse the Jami(e)sons, I pretty sure that Roenick would recognize Greg Jamison, which means that Jamison is really trying to pursue the Coyotes.

I should note that Roenick is not part of Jamison's group, only that he has been approached and is possibly interested. Which means that Jamison is pretty much scrapping the bottom of the barrel for investors and is still coming up short...

They've got just enough money to buy the team another year of league ownership in the desert.

Bad news on the Islanders front. It looks like Wang is now seriously considering offers from outside the NY-metro area. This is from Chris Botta, former NYI PR guy, who always felt the Islanders would end up either in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, or Brooklyn:

Sources insist that he is utilizing his leverage to be prepared for 2015.

But here?s where it gets really dicey for the true Orange and Blue believers, and those ignorant folks ? namely, this writer ? who found the notion of the Islanders ever leaving New York inconceivable.

Wang does not want to leave Nassau County, and staying put remains his first choice. But when I asked top executives to confirm that Wang will only consider overtures from municipalities within the New York metropolitan area, I could not get a promise on or off the record.

?I can?t guarantee that anymore,? said one source on high. ?They are looking at options inside and outside of New York State. It would be misleading to say New York only.?

So there you have it.

I was actually really surprised at the general tone and message of most of the comments there, definitely more surprised than at the article. Usually, even when it's very definitely in the interest of the team to relocate, the fans are having none of it and freak on the owner, but there's a whole mess of Islanders fans over there that are actually supporting a move. Weird.

The Islanders would be leaving a lot of TV money on the table if they left the New York area:

No one doubts owner Charles Wang is absorbing huge losses, but the blow is softened by $20 million or so per season that MSG Media pays to carry Islanders games in a deal that runs until 2030-31 -- that's not a typo, folks -- by which time the rights fee will rise to about $36 million. There would be no such contract in the much smaller Kansas City market -- certainly not in dollars and presumably not in length.

Seems to me they're all blaming Nassau County for the mess that they're in & are 100% on Wang's side. This is like the exact opposite of your typical reaction to a team moving.

Then again, most of them are convinced that the team will only be moving into the Barclays Center & not skipping out on New York completely. For their sake, I hope that's the case. It'd be cool if they could leave NVMC but stay in Brooklyn, even if it meant having to play in what would be the smallest hockey arena in the NHL.
