When Dak and the Cowboys were struggling in the first half, and Buck and Aikman were like, "Well, ya know, Romo does give them more big play ability..." I nearly lost it.  It's become so clear over this season that not only is Dak the present and future of the Cowboys at QB, but that's also more than a game manager.  Some of those throws he made were ridiculous.  I'm not even a Cowboys fan - not even close, tbh - but it's really ticked me off that this whole season has been a bunch of media outlets trying to start a "Dak-Romo" controversy when there really was no controversy to start with.

ANYWAY that's my two cents for the day

FWIW, I'm a Packers fan and I was getting sick of Buck and Aikman going on about how great Rodgers is.

I've never watched a national game where the announcers weren't all over Rodgers. If I weren't a Packers fan, and especially if I were a butt-sore Bears fan, I'd likely be pretty annoyed by the Rodgers love.

The first time I saw a coach do that last second timeout (or the first time I remember it anyways) -- I think it was Mike Shanahan against the Raiders -- it worked and I'm not sure I've seen it work since.  The best, though, is when the kicker misses the first one and nails the second.

No hard data here, but I feel like I've seen it backfire (coach calls timeout before a FG the kicker woulda missed) as much as I've seen it work.

It seems like that to me as well - and I love it every time it happens.

Probably the same here.  I would be curious to see some actual numbers.

That hit just now in the KC-PIT game makes me not want to watch football anymore.

How do they get the time-out called literally as soon as the ball is snapped?  I hate how many rules there are, but I think there should be one where the defensive team can't call a time out within 3 seconds (at least on 4th down, or when the offense is in a kicking formation.)

It's silly stuff, and the "double field goal" is ridiculously annoying.

1. Coaches wait for the long snapper to go head up...head down (as they look at the holder)...then call timeout just as the snapper's head is about to come up.  They aren't just trying to ice the kicker....they're trying to monkey with the motions and rhythms and timings of the snapper, holder, and kicker.  This is why you'll often see the kicker go back to the bench area, then run back out to kick.  Believe it or not, their jog to the kicking spot is part of their routine.  Calling timeout messes with their routines.

2. It takes a little bit to relay the timeout from the Side Judge to the Lead Official.  It's not like all the officials can look at one bench to see if a coach is going to call timeout or not.  Everyone is focusing on their places of responsibility.

3. As the old football logic goes....timeouts don't roll over to the next quarter of football you play.  No harm in using them.  The success rate may not be that high, but the same can be said for pulling the goalie or the pitcher doing the "fake to third, throw to first" pick-off move.  If it's more than 0%, why not do it?

Oh yippie. Packers (again) vs Falcons (eww), and Steepers (AGAIN) vs Patriots (AGAIN).

Yeah, I'm out. :censored: this season.
