A name for the St. Louis club is going to come at a later date as MLS advised the ownership group to not pursue a name until after the franchise was announced. The Saint Louis FC club will not be promoted from the USL to MLS, so that name is out.

IT'S HAPPENING. Been waiting for this for so long. Now just to wait for the games to actually start...

And hey - Sacramento - hope you get the next one.

Was listening to United States of Soccer on Sirius and some names floated out:

Saint Louis Wanderers (Lewis and Clark tie-in)

St. Louis Archers

Spirits of St. Louis (Lindbergh connection, NBA throwback)

St. Louis Steamers (indoor soccer reference)

St. Louis Rhythm (Davis said it sounds like an Arena football name)

St. Louis BluesBirds (tie in to the other pro teams)

St. Louis Rams Soccer Club (can't see any problems there!)

How about "Olympic St. Louis", given the 1904 Games?

This is one I'd like, but I'm really pulling for Olympique Saint Louis. Locally relevant history, French connection, Eurostyle naming, and yet totally unique to MLS.

The St. Louis Post-DIspatch reported that Archers has gotten the ownership group's attention. Something along the lines of Derby County with a name like St. Louis County with a ram head on the badge would probably prompt a lawsuit, but would be worth it just to piss Stan Kroenke off.

I've seen this suggestion thrown around too, and I really like it. Question is do you go Olympic or Olympique for the French connection to St. Louis?

Olympique if you plan on using the trefoil anywhere in that logo. I also love the St. Louis county idea with a ram on there. If they had some crazy historical incident with a goat causing some chaos, even better! I've of the Lou Brown opinion when it comes to Stan Kroenke:

"T(Kroenke)seems to think that we'd save everyone the time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves. Me, I'm for wasting (Kroenke's) time. So I figured we ought to hang around for a while and see if we can give him a nice big s@!Tburger to eat!"

This is decent suggestion, but after living here for the past nine months, this city has an almost unhealthy fascination with its past that's rooted in an insecurity about its future.

Not saying it's a deal breaker, or even that I don't like it, but that there's a sentiment here that the fixation on a World's Fair and Olympic games that took place 115 years ago seems to validate the idea that St. Louis' best years were in its past.

No, St. Louis HS would be more appropriate due to their weird obsession of where one went to high school so they can try to classify you by your parent's income and family affluence.

Saint Louis Stars or Bust.

Whether or not FC or SC is added is irrelevant.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Sounds like something from a Rocky & Bullwinkle story arc.

@Bucfan56 is maybe the most cynical person I know on this website, but can you blame him for being that when stuff like this keeps happening? Cynicism isn't just something that suddenly happens; it gradually builds up over the course of time.

I think people would be surprised to learn that out in the real world, I have a rather sunny, happy-go-lucky, see the good in all things type of mentality. I just use this place as a dumping ground for my built up cynicism rather than unleash all of that unhinged on the general populous :P

I'm basically Gilfoyle from Silicon Valley.

Some people on twitter are saying that using "Olympic" or "Olympique" in club names is no longer permitted. Apparently Montreal's MLS club wanted to use Olympique but was not permitted? Unknown if this is a copyright thing with the Olympic Committee or a FIFA rule (and the information comes from twitter, so who knows how accurate it is in the fist place). Either way, it'd be highly disappointing if that is the case.

I'd go for Wanderers. Good excuse to have a (tasteful) Native American theme, since most tribes that lived in this area were known to be nomadic.
