2019 MLB Season

2,000th RBI for Albert today. Joining only 2 (or 4, depending who you ask) players ever.

Guess who has tickets to see the Angels the next TWO NIGHTS.

(It's me. I'm hoping I at least get to see Shohei hit his first HR of the season. I feel like I should get some sort of reward for sitting through a [likely brief] Matt Harvey start.)

RBI’s didn’t become an official stat until 1920.

This is why Albert Pujols is listed as having more RBI’s than Babe Ruth, who is just shy of 2,000 RBI’s by MLB record standards.

Ruth’s unofficial is listed at 2,214, which would put him 2nd all-time. But because every RBI before 1920 is an estimate, the true total can’t be verified.

That Marlins Man fella seems to be at every Cubs game I watch these days.  He may as well rechristen himself Cubs Man.

This is his 14th MLB team.  He's one away from playing for half of the teams in MLB.

Ah, Edwin Jackson...Mike Morgan's black brother 😅

Didn’t he toss a no-hitter somewhere in there, too? I think with the Diamondbacks.

He did.

I want him to get to 15, so that he can play for half of the league.

He was at a Giants-Rockies game in Denver earlier in the week.

I get that run differential can be skewed by blowouts, but jesus - the Reds are PLUS 31 but in last place... 3.5 games behind the 3rd-place Pirates, who are MINUS 35!

They don't always win, but when they do, they prefer runs in bunches.  They are...the Cincinnati Reds.

Or, the Pirates are less bad than the Reds... except when they're more bad...I guess?

Their pitching has been great, which I would've been super excited to hear before the season, but they don't hit, except for the one day a week when they blow out the other team, which pumps their run differential. In addition to the run differential insanity, their pitching stats make their poor record even more mathematically befuddling/maddening.

Team Pitching ERA: 2nd best in baseball

Hits Allowed: 8th fewest in baseball

Home Runs Allowed: Fewest in baseball

Total Bases Allowed: 3rd fewest

Team WHIP: tied for 5th best

K/9: 6th

Pitching BABIP: 8th highest at .300, which actually means they're still a bit unlucky on balls in play.

This team is better than their record would dictate is what I'm saying.

Outscored the Marlins 21-1 in the three games they played them.

12-1 over the Cardinals

12-4, 9-2, and 7-0 over the Giants.

There's your 31 run differential.

When 1/4 of their games don't come against the two worst teams in the National League, the run differential will even out.

The Pyrathergeon total has them projected to be a 95-win team. Their current record has them projected to be 71-91.

They'll be a lot closer to 71 wins than they will to 95.
