But someone said that they cannot change number size for NFL jerseys.

I think it was that there's a minimum size, but not a maximum.

Whether it's true or not with the Jets, I'm sure we're going to see more of those Oregon style giant numbers in the NCAA.  That's a trend that's going to become over used, dated, and ridiculous in a hurry.

"The press release. “Big Apple Green” is a deep shade of green that is rich but still appears to glow, “Jet Black” is exactly what it sounds like, and “Limelieght” is a bright neon green with an almost yellowish tinge to it."

Would not be surprised if these are the colours.  Graphics on the New York Jets website have featured a lot of lime green lettering for a while.  Have been thinking this might by a hint about where the colour scheme is going.  Thinking lime green trim really good possibility.

I realize it's not the same thing, but it seems plausible that we are going from mis-matched greens to contrasting greens. I don't think it's going to be an improvement.

On the flipside, I think of the Irish Rainbow Bucks, and how that became a lasting part of their identity. Even though it's just a recolor of the Tequila Sunrise *cough*...

I just hope the pants have regular stripes that extend from top to bottom and not abbreviated, pointed or curved striping (or some kind of wording).  Oh, and no side panels please.

When I hear about the "Big Apple Green" with "Jet Black" and "Limelight Green", and see the colour scheme of the Jets' graphics on their website, can't help but think they might be going with a colour scheme similar to ill-fated third uniform the Saskatchewan Roughriders wore for a short period of time.

Over on Jets Reddit someone has claimed to see them, described the following. Obviously this is a random Reddit account but they way he describes the names of the colors reads like it's from a press release.

"It’s a bold “NY”. The whole set is way more representative of New York City than it is the Jets branding, and I actually really like that. The black set is even a love letter to the “City that never sleeps”. The new colors are “Big Apple Green”, “Jet Black”, and “LimeLight”. It’s definitely different, it’s striking, it’s not like anything in the NFL, and to me looks like a team tired of playing second fiddle ready to, well, embrace the limelight.

The numbers are probably my favorite part. Absolutely massive."

I asked him where did he get the names of the colors

"The press release. “Big Apple Green” is a deep shade of green that is rich but still appears to glow, “Jet Black” is exactly what it sounds like, and “Limelieght” is a bright neon green with an almost yellowish tinge to it."

Edit: I hope it's not true, sounds like there going heavy black and ignoring the white.

its possible things have changed, but those are not the color names ive been told. take all this with a grain of salt

Yep.  Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3(c):

Quote

Numerals

Numerals on the back and front of jerseys in accordance with Rule 5, Section 1, Article 2. Such numerals must be a minimum of 8 inches high and 4 inches wide, and their color must be in sharp contrast with the color of the jersey. Smaller numerals should be worn on the tops of the shoulders or upper arms of the jersey. Small numerals on the back of the helmet or on the uniform pants are optional.

If you’re curious, 5.1.2 is where they lay out the number range by position.  But no maximum size, only minimum.

Not sure about this combo of the skyline into the jets motif.

Not if you live here.

A smaller city might forever be defined by such a tragedy.  But New York?  There’s too much else.  As we near twenty years’ distance, I doubt it’s even the fifth thing New Yorkers think of when they think “planes”.

I changed that post Gothamite. But I feel the same way, I just didn't want things to derail further along another tangent.

Sounds Dan Parker-y to me.

And I dont think that Nike has ever been so cornily on the nose with their color names as “Jet black” and “limelight.”

God help us all. It's absolute trash if this is true. Who knows. But if it is I will be a relentless squeaky wheel and complaining incessantly about it. And I will make a scene

I wouldn't worry too much.  The next time a Reddit rumor turns out to be on the nose will be the first time.

One can hope the Jets turned down the 'Clear-Sky' clear side panels Nike was pushing on them.

To be fair, giant numbers have been around in the past. Most schools in the late 80s and throughout the 90s had giant numbers.

I'd definitely be down with this!
