I know from working with the Brewers that throwback jerseys have to be locked down about the middle of the previous season.  They get manufactured in the off-season. 

Yup. They produce hundreds of thousands of these and the time to put them together is daunting. It’s usually a two year turnaround even on smaller projects when you’re working with a company that produces as much as Nike does.

No, this is defacing the most iconic jersey in North American sports. An advertisement is displayed as prominently as the team's logo, there are no "yeah buts" to get around that fact.

So what's the over/under on MLB coming out quietly some time either over the weekend or early next week and reversing course based on the near universal derision for these jerseys and the idea of wearing them during the game (I've only seen a handful of responses anywhere online both social media and the press who are onboard with these things or using them during the game) and announces they've "heard the fans" and will be playing with the usual regular unis with an ASG patch during the game?

I could understand the thought process behind the design when the game was originally announced.  Atlanta probably has the best known 3-letter abbreviation of any MLB market, so I guess that's what they were going for. The execution is terrible, but I could see what they were thinking.

Absolutely none based on the rest of their dimwit decisions this year that have been universally panned. Yet MLB continues to defend them to the death

I'd agree if not for their quick binning of the Padres Nazi caps last year. Occasionally, very occasionally, they wise up and realize they've screwed up and fix it. 

 

Just a matter if this is one of those times.

i think they will say (if they say anything at all)  that they have to wear them due to the contract with Nike.

One teams hat having a swastika on it and replacing it is different than having a whole run of jerseys and hats for all teams getting scrapped just because the design is bad. They’re completely different situations.

Oh I don't expect they'll be scrapped completely. What I expect is they'll quietly switch it back to these being worn during the Home Run Derby when it's traditional expected the teams will wear some form of ASG jersey, even a thing that looks worse than if they dressed the guys in actual garbage bags for the Derby, and they'll switch back to the players wearing their regular uniforms for the actual all star game.
