MLB. Those ASG jerseys are :censored:ing Busch league!!!!

I think one of the coolest things about the MLB all star game is seeing all of the different uniforms. I know it’s not the same as before inter league, but it’s one of the only times to see the other league’s uniforms. They’re :censored:ing white vs. gray for crying out loud. Isn’t that uniform enough for a god damn meaningless exhibition game. :censored:!!!

 

I know the goal is to sell a bunch of crap and Im no marketing executive but I would think there’s some value in having the players wear their own team’s uniforms and caps for the ASG and the HR Derby. You know so a viewer can more easily recognize that that guy who’s blasting home runs plays for the Pirates or Yankees or whatever.

So basically every MLB club’s All Star Game hat looks like an Astros hat. WOW, this is hilarious considering they’re the most hated team in baseball at the moment lol

The one time that we get an actual All Star Game jersey and this is the garbage they come up with. Incredible. The way things have been going lately with baseball, you really begin to wonder if Rob Manfred is genuinely trying to kill the sport.

Sure the ASG uniforms are terrible. Everything needed to be produced in a tight timeframe, I still think there was plenty of time to put together a decent identity. Like they could't change the floral pattern to mountains, or just ditch it all together? I do like that each team has a unified look and not each player in their normal uniforms. But this would be an okay time to keep that practice going one more year.

 

But let's take a step back from the ledge. They will be worn for one game and we'll never see them again.

The All-Star Game uniforms are hideous pretty much every year, but these are especially offensive. What infuriates me even more is that the players will be wearing these during the actual game.

 

Baseball has been a business since the beginning of time, but MLB's money-grubbing ways are really starting to turn me off from the sport as a whole. The ASG feels more like an infomercial these days, prioritizing corporate sponsorships and advertisements over the game itself.

Wow, these ASG jerseys are amazing... they've actually found a way to make the godawful City Connect jerseys look better. I didn't think that was possible but here we are. 

 

Honestly the only thing I can conclude from Nike's latest offerings is that they hate baseball and want it to fail.

You could make something (slightly) better in a shorter amount of time by removing the letters and adding some collar trim.  It takes a certain talent to fail this spectacularly.

The mountain ASG logo on the side of the hat is serviceable.  The red on the team logos really sticks out and it should be purple (or, at the very least, team color). And the mountain outline on the star? That's trying just a bit too hard. Just make the star purple (maybe with white outline)

 

The jerseys are comically bad. Is that a Hawaiian motif on the cuffs? Why?

EDIT: but on the flipside I guess it makes MLB The Show more realistic; matter of fact the only baseball video games I've ever seen get the "ASG players wear their own jerseys" thing right was MLB Power Pros.

Power Pros 2008 was the friggin game, man...granted, chibi ballplayers with no legs isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I played that more than I did The Show, iirc.  If not for the brittle discs Konami used, I'd still be playing Power Pros more than the Show.

Yep, and that’s really what this comes down to. Colorado isn’t to blame for any of this, as it looks like they were going to be used regardless of location. The fact that the MLB had planned to go with these at all - whether in Atlanta or elsewhere - is awful.

of course they were.   In order to have them available for sale now, these uniforms were manufactured before Atlanta lost the game, much less designed.

the jerseys are the retail tail wagging the on-field dog.

 

i would be willing to wager that the "work out" jerseys weren't selling for two reasons: 1) they weren't worn for the home run derby in 2018 and 2019,  so they got basically zero visibility. when that program first started, i was a teenager, and my friends and i wanted the "home run derby jersey" of our favorite player. now...why would one be compelled to buy it? especially because, 2) they aren't rendered in team colors. so, think about if you're a mets fan and you own a 2008 david wright ASG work out jersey. it's basically a yankees batting practice jersey with david wright's name and number. when are you going to wear that to a game?

 

so now nike can say, "hey, look. not only is it commemorative, it's multi-purpose. it says 'NYM' on it, so you can wear it to a regular season game and not look out of place. the red/navy/white color scheme lends itself to a good portion of teams' color palettes. it's gotta be what they're banking on. 

 

and yeah, they look like garbage.
