2022-2023 NHL Jersey Changes

I see both sides of the Sharks equipment discussion and, as a fan, it is hard not to walk the line. We know black equipment looks stellar and would do a better job of representing the Sharks historically, but I just don't think that is where they are at the moment. The all teal feels very modern Sharks, and I don't know how to explain that. It sets a tone that I think the organization has been trying to establish the last few years that wants to be ok with leaving behind success to find new success. San Jose has always been a very nostalgic fanbase that doesn't like to step off the known path (take any half popular player long overdue for a trade as an example. Or the wild contracts they dish out on occasion). When I see the new uniforms I get a feeling of change for the better, which is a great feeling to have when you know you get to watch your team get smacked in the mouth the entire season. Either way, they went from my bottom 10 to at least top half of the league with this overhaul. I am also happy that our new look really showcases how bland/drab the other identities in California are.

Yes. That’s exactly it. The Sharks had a good amount of success in the past decade, but ultimately it has a stench to it because they could never actually get the ultimate goal accomplished. They’ve FINALLY and mercifully rid themselves of guys like Thornton and Marleau, and for the good times they had with them, it was so long overdue. That mentality you have fits how I feel about it perfectly. Sure, the black helmet and pants fits well historically, but frankly I think most fans are sort of tired of that history and what’s associated with it, and simply want a bit of a fresh start. It’s a weird bit of symbolism that I think most people who aren’t Sharks  fans are overlooking. This team was SO reluctant to any kind of change for so long, and this just feels like a willingness on the organization’s part to finally try and do things a little bit differently.

This is probably gonna get mocked, but this legit feels like more than just a simple uniform change. This feels like a small first step in finally changing the culture a bit. That I’m all for, because the culture of Sharks hockey has mostly sucked in the last ten to fifteen years.

Rapid7 were also I think the first tenant in the office building that they built on the site of the original Boston Garden, which was a parking lot for 25 years until they finally built an office building on it 3 months before covid. So that’s interesting. Still couldn’t tell you what Rapid7 is or does.

The building housing Rapid7 is actually adjacent to the old Garden. Though it is part of the Hub on Causeway development, the actual siting is where the old Analax (building to the right in the photo blow) was:

Slightly tangential, but I think I'd like jersey ads better if they were local(ish) businesses instead of multinational banks and tech startups that will be belly up in three years. Like, if the Avs (god forbid) decide to have jersey ads, I'd much rather see a King Soopers ad than a KeyBank or Pepsi ad.

I still hate jersey ads on the whole, don't get me wrong, but I think it'd be much more palatable if the Coyotes had an In-N-Out ad instead of a massive casino chain. And though having the ad still sucks, I'd much rather see the Bruins have a local-ish company on their jerseys than Chase or Bridgestone.

EDIT: I was really stoned when I typed this out. No idea what I was saying. Carry on.

I’d actually be surprised if In-N-Out  wasn’t a bigger company than Gila River on the whole. I’m not sure how big GR is, though. Maybe I’m underestimating it. Also, Gila River is probably a lot closer to being a “local” ad than In-N-Out is.

TIL that a company founded in Los Angeles County in California is more palatable as a jersey ad for an Arizona team than a hotel and casino chain founded in the Phoenix area.

If any NHL team would fit an In-N-Out ad, it'd be the Kings or Ducks, not the Coyotes.

3 Gila River casinos = massive chain??

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

King Soopers (Aka Kroger) is the largest supermarket chain in the US. Kroger keeps the old local names of the companies they buy out because people get real emotional about where they buy food.

Which is why when I say that they took Mariano's and basically turned it into Dominick's, it means nothing to you, but it means something here, man.

Worst part is, this isn't even the first time they've :censored:ed up so far, because I'm fairly sure Bruce Cassidy is not 27 years old;

They are destined to :censored: everything up. From their botched unveiling, to the way they treated Fleury, to the Dadonov-to-the-Ducks failure.. This club is just one big joke (Only their Stanley cup final run is an achivement)

I'll forget the Blue Jackets jersey ad is there by like game 5, but that doesn't mean I like it. I saw some doofus on CBJ twitter who was like "I think it looks good!" How does it look good? You might say it looks "less intrusive than I thought it would" or "It could've been worse", but it doesn't look good. It doesn't look better than it would without it.

Based on your username, pic, and location I can see why you're bitter, but this seems like a bit of an overreaction.

The pants stripe makes perfect sense with the home road uniforms and the black numbers really help to balance the look...

...but I still think that the teal breezers with the home set is just too much. The black pants gives the the teal equipment a base *pop*  off of in a way that the mono-teal look washes out; plus, it would allow them to keep the striping consistent throughout entire uniform by using a white/teal/white stripe on black.
