I have to say this is one of the best looking bowl seasons I could have imagined. Alabama Texas is a great matchup, TCU Boise State is the most exciting and evenly matched bowl game I've seen since Texas USC in the Rose Bowl a few seasons ago, Florida Cincinatti looks great, OSU Oregon should be a great game, and seeing USC in the Emerald Bowl is a great excuse for me to get tickets again.

Here are the five finalists for this year's Heisman:

Toby Gerhart - Stanford - RB

Mark Ingram - Alabama - RB

Colt McCoy - Texas - QB

Ndamukong Suh - Nebraska - DT

Tim Tebow - Florida - QB

This award will probably go to Ingram, especially after his beastly performance in the SEC Championship. Still, wouldn't be stunned if McCoy walked away with it either. And if Tim Tebow isn't "Tim Tebow", he doesn't get an invite to NYC.

I don't mean to hate on Mark Ingram, obviously he's a great player... but he's never struck me as Heisman worthy. He plays for one of the best teams in the country, behind one of the best offensive lines. Glen Coffee put up similar stats last year, and I doubt there would be a huge drop off in production if he was replaced by Trent Richardson or Roy Upchurch. Compare that with Gerhart, who was essentially the reason for Stanford's revival this season. I think it's safe to say that without Gerhart Stanford would be a much worse team. Alabama would probably still be SEC champions, if not undefeated, without Ingram.

Once again, I think Ingram is an excellent player, but I feel that should he win he will be viewed as Jason White is within five years-- a great player on an elite team winning by default. He's just a sophomore and will probably have a better season next year anyway. I just feel that if the Heisman is to be given to the most outstanding player, it would be given to Gerhart or Suh.

One of the points we all hear a lot of media heads and "experts" harp on, and one of the things I absolutely cannot stand about how Heisman winners are chosen, is that the trophy should go to the best player on the best team. Here's the thing: I think most of us know that it usually, about 99.998576% of the time, goes to the best offensive skill position player on the best team. Now, there's a reason I bolded "offensive"...because defensive players have won it before, most recently Charles Woodson, who's a defensive skill position player. Here's where I'm going with all that...if, somehow, voters really saw it in their deepest mind of minds to vote for Ndomukong Suh as this year's winner, I truly belive that, more than anything, would really signify the changing guard of college football as we know it...and I say that because I really believe the landscape of FBS football is being blown wide open right before our eyes. Plus, I'm just about positive no lineman, especially a D-lineman, has ever won a Heisman, and I truly think Suh is worthy of such.

But...I also truly belive long-held voter/media bias will ultimately prevail, and we'll see either Ingram (which I'd be cool with) or McCoy (which I wouldn't) take the thing home.

(Of course, this is all just my humble opinion...feel free to tear it to shreds if you like. ^_^ )

If McCoy wins, Suh should re-enact this, right then and there.

Why didn't Spiller get invited?

Rushing 1145 yards/11 touchdowns

Receiving 445 yards/ 4 touchdowns

Returns 918 yards/5 touchdowns

Passing 17 yards/1 touchdown

Total 2525 yards/21 touchdowns

He led the nation in all purpose yards (excluding QBs) and he scored a TD in every game. Only NCAA player to do that.

I'm no sure how many recruiting nerds we have here, but has anyone noticed the commit influx since Bowden announced his retirement?

6 commits in less than a week. 2010 4* DB Mike Harris out of El Camino College and 5* MLB Jeff Luc and four 2011 ESPNU150 Watch list players in OL Trey Pettis, DBs Lamarcus Brutus and Keelin Smith, and DB Eric Beverly.

A lot of people believe Luc was the first domino and that some recruits were waiting to pick until he committed. He has already taken to call a lot of other prospects.

:EDIT: It's not outside the BCS I realize, but...

Bearcats/Gators.

I live in Cincy and I'm kinda hoping that the 'Cats run into some pretty pissed off Florida Seniors just to quiet all the "UC is better than the Big Ten!" a bit. I've been hearing it from almost everyone I work with for about two weeks now.

I don't think I'm prepared for what would happen if UC somehow beats Florida.

Other than that, there's not much I have to look forward to. The bowl matchups were pretty much expected (read:boring) so I'm just looking for some good, close games this bowl season.

I'm no expert but, I think UC would have a tough time beating a team comprised of the best players in The Big Ten. At least that's what I would tell your co-workers. :D

You know, I really do not have a problem with this.

Alabama Cancels Classes for 3 Days due to BCS Title Game

Overall, this is a problem if the BCS system in which students cannot often go, especially with a title game in its current format. This is just another reason why there may be collusion.

Alabama starts their semester on January 4. (Which is when some other schools start. Michigan always started that quickly, so that "internships could be committed to early", old wives tale.)

Cincinnati and Oregon start on Jan. 4. (So does Ohio State, but they are on the quarter system, so less of a true mess)

Florida begins on Jan. 5.

TCU and GT have classes start on Jan. 11. (FYI, Penn State would have started here too).

Boise State, Texas and Iowa start on Jan. 19. (Post MLK Day)

You know, I had only watched the end of the Big 12 championship, but today I watched the highlights of the game...

and man, Suh is an absolute monster. What makes it more impressive is that you know all week Texas has been preparing for him, and he was double teamed almost every play. He just took over that game.

I love Gerhart but now I really want Suh to win the Heisman. As I said before if Ingram doesn't play, Alabama still wins big. If Suh doesn't play, Texas probably would've scored 30.

But seeing how dominant Suh is makes me wonder if anyone would pick anybody ahead of him at #1. It's safe to say the Bucs would be a lock. The Rams and Browns may want to go quarterback, but I doubt Jake Locker or Jimmy Clausen would make as much of an impact as Suh.
