FIRST POSSIBLE LEAK OF 2012! I was talking to a sales rep at National Sports today, and he said that they've been told to pull all their merchandise bearing the old Jets logo. He said that True North has acquired the rights to the logo, and plans to put it on a jersey in the future, so they're pulling the merchandise so they can "re-release it" with the jersey.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

True North acquired those rights a while ago and proceeded to put them on the shelf so that people would only buy the Air Force stuff for now. Not surprised that there will be some throwback in their future.

Why?

The old jets logo looks awful and it's not the same team.

The Jets Winnipeg one is ugly, but at least in a product-of-its-time way. The '90s logo is just bad. I don't think they'll wear that. They might as well wear "their" throwbacks, though. The new Quebec Nordiques sure won't.

Nostalgic value. Fans of the Winnipeg Jets 2.0 are going to associate the history of the Jets 1.0 with the new team regardless of what the history books say. Since TNSE owns the rights to the old Jets stuff they might as well release a throwback alternate to cash in on that sentiment. If they're going to do that then they'll going to have the current throwback stuff pulled so they can release their version of it on their own terms.

I wouldn't worry about either of the Jets logos replacing the new Jets logo as the team's primary.

I could live with the original one coming back but the 90's one is just awful and needs to stay in the past.

The '90s sweaters were kinda rec-league in an almost endearing way. Sort of an NHL analogue to the final iteration of the Washington Bullets: the most uninspired and generic of its league's red-and-blues, dead last or close in merchandise sales, even if the whole thing hadn't been scrapped altogether (Coyotes, Wizards) it would've been significantly reimagined between then and now. Wouldn't have lasted if the Jets themselves had. They symbolize nothing of consequence and have no intrinsic aesthetic merit, so there's little/no sense in bringing them back. Maybe a WHA throwback from one of the Avco Cup years is the way to go. They'll look like the poor man's Rangers in one way or another no matter which throwback they go with; might as well go with the glory days, I suppose.

Bulldogs unis were a mixed up mess, Marlies hinted at a special uni, but didn't come through.

The Winnipeg Jets probably would have had an unused, very 90s logo had they lingered a bit longer ? like the Nordiques wolf logo. If Quebec comes back, I would not recommend the wolf ? it too would have been refreshed a couple times because it was very 90s.

We went in a crew of 11, I was one of 3 sober ones. One of our drunk friends dropped a nice $150 on one of those messes. Couldn't believe it, it's a shame the Marlies didn't do anything special, jersey wise, but then again it's also a shame the Bulldogs didn't dress an AHL roster. What a let down, 7-2 at home. We gave it to the Hamilton fans.

But yes just gross to look at.

It's sad that MLSE hasn't bothered to fix the Marlies' jerseys yet, and they're still using that incomplete, empty design from the Edge rollout.
