The black jerseys would work for a late 90's expansion team, but they're not the Mets that we all grew up watching so it never felt right on them.

Plus, it forced black on the white and gray uniforms which made for ugly, muddled wordmarks and numbers. And it caused one of the ugliest caps in baseball in this:

yuck.

Actually, I much preferred that cap to the solid black one. At least this one featured more blue and was less forced with white on the insignia.

Anyway, unlike the last Blue Jays set, I don't think the Mets' black look would work for a '90s expansion team. It was bad. BAD bad. Black and royal blue just do not work together. The wordmarks on the white and gray jerseys were muddled garbage. The black jersey was barely legible because the numbers/letters were blue on black. The only way it would have worked would be to make the wording orange or white, but then a blue outline would dissapear against the black to the point where it wasn't even there. This was such a bad set. I honestly don't see how anybody could think it would work under any circumstances.

The Mets in black worked, but when they went to a black jersey or hat everyday it lost it's look.

I prefer the Mets with some black. For instance the Black and Blue hat as a Sunday Alternate with the Snow Whites or Black Jersey.

More Blue Caps and socks on the road, Blue Caps as a Home Cap and Black Cap as a Road Alternate on Sundays or Fridays.

When they pretty much eliminated the Blue Cap, it went down hill fast.

They never looked better then when they played the Yankees in 08. At Yankee Stadium on the road, and I believe at home.

I actually have that cap. I think it looks cool. It's better than the solid black one by miles.

It may have not worked as the road cap, but I'd like it with the black jersey.

They never looked better than they did this season, prior to last night. Though there's a chance they could look better next year when the black is completely gone and a potentially beautiful new blue alt takes it's place. There should be no traces of black in their identity. I give them a slide on this season only for the black alt because they couldn't get the blue in the changes in time last year, though it still doesn't need to be worn. But I give them a pass for yesterday because it was to honor John Franco.

Just curious, but what year did the Mets introduce the black jerseys? I think it was born during the Bobby V era ...

black jerseys premiered in 1998, along with the "hybrid" cap. the all black cap came a year later in 1999, as did the "new york" road black alternates.

Even though it didn't work all that well for the Mets, that is my favorite hat in baseball. As a Giants fan, I love that both of the Giants colors (all four colors for both teams if you include the batterman logo) were included in the cap.

I'm a die hard Giants fan, and absolutely hate the Dodgers, but I love the fact that the Mets colors are a tribute to the two original california teams. Even if you love one and hate the other, neither would be today what they are without the other. I feel that a Giants or a Dodgers fan wearing a Mets hat is almost a shout out to NYC. Saying, hey, thanks. We know you miss em both, but we REALLY needed them both. Good on you, NYC! :P

That was 2010, as part of their 40th anniversary:

I'm not aware of any plans to wear them again, more's the pity.

Interesting that they chose the 1997-99 uniforms. I love the original MB set from 1994-96, where the Road had heavy emphasis on green.

I'm not good at concept making, but I'd definitely make one with a mix of this uniform set and the Ball-in-glove as the main logo.

I'm not a big fan of that 4 digit, but other than that those were nice. I wish more teams decorated their belt loops.

edit: Why don't they have the batterman logo on the back of their hats? They went to the length to give them a gray underbill, but left off the MLB logo that was worn at that time.

B-e-a-utiful. I didn't mind the previous set with more green, but these were the best. Really they just need to be navy and gold and wear this set right here.

I liked this Brewers looks, but the green should have been kelly green instead of a darker green. Also, I think it should have been featured more prominently, like in the previous set. Regardless, the team was royal blue and yellow before then and is still royal and yellow in the hearts of most fans. Even with as regionally appropriate as the above jersey was, they should be wearing their classic colors.

Actually I don't think they should use green at all. It made them look too close to the Mariners, only using metallic gold instead of silver.

Besides, the Brewers are a 2-color team, blue and gold. Either royal and athletic or navy and metallic.
