I'm a fan of using gold to celebrate your championship, but that's going to be impossible to read unless you're looking at a close up picture of somebody.

And it's been said before, but the Cardinals look so much better on the road in Spring Training. They need to ditch the blue hats.

If anything, the contrast problem exists on jerseys like Atlanta's navy blue shirts, where you can't see the number and thus cannot identify the player.

You have to be Stevie Wonder to not read the numbers on the back of the blue Braves jerseys. They're easier to read than a bunch of the 3D shadow :censored:.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I agree... I don't see what the fuss is about "color X" numbers on a "color X" jersey. It's really not that hard to read. There's a white there outline for a reason... use it.

Well that explains my confusion. I picked up a Giants on field cap today at Champs that has a full metallic gold SF logo on the front and a thin gold outline around the MLB batter logo on the back. The label said it was the official 2010 World Series Champs on field 59Fifty. Although the winner of the World Series taking the field for the ring ceremony/first game/first series may be a shameless cash grab, I think it looks fantastic and it's my favorite new trend in baseball. It was started with (I think) the Cardinals in 06 and every team since has embraced it at least somewhat. I know that Boston in the very least wore the gold trim for their ring ceremony one year, Philly or St. Louis wore it the whole first seres, and even the Yankees last year made some merchandise outlined in gold. Not sure if they ever wore any of it on the field, though. I've been wondering since Brian Wilson struck out Nelson Cruz how/if the Giants were going to continue this trend considering gold was one of their trim colors. The jersey isn't bad for a one time event, although it might be hard to read. I absolutely frickin LOVE the hat though. I love how they just replaced the orange with gold on the SF logo rather than just outlining it in gold. The thin outline on the back is a nice touch as well. My favorite part though is that it doesn't have a clunky World Series champs patch on the side or rear. It makes the cap a bit flashy like it should be, but still understated. I personally think that the Gold outline in the Giants home jerseys is a fantastic touch, but the problem is that it just doesn't fit anywhere else. They tried it on the road jersey and it just flat out didn't work. It wouldn't work as an outline for the SF either because it'd wash the logo out too much. This set helps to tie it all in a bit better. I honestly wouldn't mind if the Giants used a cap with a Gold SF at home as an alt after seeing this cap. I think it would work pretty well despite the historical objections that may arise.

I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Just a little clarification on the "didn't." I'm sure you know your stuff and just phrased it incorrectly (seeing as you are a Giants fan), but they still use the gold shadow on the road jerseys. They didn't originally, but added it in 2005. I actually think the gold pops more on the gray than cream.

As for the championship jerseys with gold, the Red Sox were the first to have them (2005). I don't know if it was their idea or MLB's. As you said, the Red Sox did it again, and the Cards and Phillies used them also. In 2006 the White Sox just put a crappy patch on the home jerseys for the entire season. Someone posted a prototype of a White Sox championship jersey where the silver was replaced with gold and it looked :censored:ing fantastic. Sadly, it never saw the field.

Nice catch, actually. I remember when they put the gold trim on the road jerseys. It looked great in person when I saw the jerseys at the Giants dugout store. But for some reason the gold always appears brown to me on TV. I honestly thought they removed gold from the road jerseys a season or two ago as well. Maybe it was just discussed.

The Giants were actually the first team to start the trend of celebrating the past year's championship on their uniforms. They wore these for the entire 1905 season.

Even though it's early, here's what I hope for in uniform changes:

AL West:

Mariners - Teal Bill on their home cap.

Angels - 'Anaheim' on their road jersey.

Athletics - Perfect set. Maybe just tweak their new gold alternates by putting the piping down the pants.

Rangers - Get rid of the black drop shadow. It makes it too cluttered and IMO it the jersey would look cleaner and brighter without it.

AL Central:

White Sox - Bring back the sleeveless alternate. They are practically made for the White Sox. Also, put the WHITE sox LOGO back on the sleeve of the road jersey. Scripts don't look right on the sleeves IMO.

Royals - Home jerseys looks like Dodgers. Incorporate more gold into their uniforms. New font for the uniforms.

Indians - Blue caps with red block 'C' for the cream alternate. Replace the block 'C' on the road with the Indian head. It gives a throwback look a more modern flare. Get rid of cursive 'I' for good.

Twins - Get rid of the sleeveless for good.

Tigers - Perfect.

NL East:

Mets - Get rid of the black alt, the black caps, the black bills, the black drop shadow, and the black socks. Add a blue alternate jersey.

Phillies - Put 'Philadelphia' on the road jersey.

Marlins - Add an aqua alternate. Make the pinstripes at home aqua. Get rid of the black alternate. Put Miami on the road.

Nationals - Put the Nationals script on the home jersey.

Braves - Perfect set.

AL East:

Yankees - Add a black alternate. Just kidding, perfect set.

Rays - Get rid of the powder blue alternate.

Orioles - Change home to black script with orange outline. Get rid of the orioles script on the road jersey's sleeve.

Red Sox - Add navy piping on red alternate.

Blue Jays - Add blue alternate and incorporate more blue into their home and away jerseys.

NL Central:

Pirates - Add a gold alternate jersey for home. Go back to vests for home and away.

Cubs - Change font on away jersey.

Astros - Make home jersey clean with no pinstripes.

Cardinals - No alternates. Perfect set.

Brewers - Change the navy blue to royal blue. Change the vegas gold to athletic gold. That will make the jerseys look a little brighter and less drab.

Reds - Get rid of the black bill on the red alternate. The Reds jerseys are classic as themselves.

NL West:

Rockies - Add a purple alternate. Get rid of the silver. It draps the uniforms out. They can be very bright and sharp if they use primary colors.

Padres - Change color scheme to brown, orange, yellow, gold, or a combination of two of them. They might look better if they use more distinctive colors. Keep the interlocking 'SD' and make the SD white for home caps and orange for road caps.

Diamondbacks - IMO, they should go back to the copper, black, purple, and teal color scheme. Red, black, and sedona just isn't good looking IMO.

Dodgers - Perfect set.

Giants - Perfect set.

Anything bold I totally Agree on. also Astros need a sand coloured jersey, possibly a sleeveless with the star on the chest and a brick undershirt and piping.

Even though it's early, here's what I hope for in uniform changes:

AL West:

Mariners - Teal bill on the homes (if it's just an alternate, that's fine too)

Angels - "LOS ANGELES" on the roads.

Athletics - Put "A's" on the home jersey (maybe the road too)

Rangers - Put "RANGERS" back on the home jersey!

AL Central:

White Sox - Put the diamond-sock back on the road sleeve!

Royals - Bring back the 1990s-early 2000s "KANSAS CITY" block font, maybe have a block "ROYALS" too.

Indians - The block "C" is getting iconic...make the alts the home set.

Twins - Perfect.

Tigers - Perfect.

NL East:

Mets - DROP THE BLACK-NOW. Add a blue alt, and put the pinstripes back on the homes.

Phillies - Perfect. (They don't even need to put the city on the road-their nickname is the city's)

Marlins - MORE TEAL. And put "MIAMI" on the road.

Nationals - Have an alt, BP jersey, warmup jacket, I don't care-with the "Nationals" script (Otherwise, I think they made the right choice putting the "W" as the primary script mark)

Braves - Perfect.

AL East:

Yankees - Perfect.

Rays - Put "TAMPA BAY" on the roads.

Orioles - Take the scripts off the jersey sleeves. Otherwise, perfect.

Red Sox - Bring back the red "BOSTON" on the roads.

Blue Jays - OVERHAUL. For starters, have the jerseys say "BLUE JAYS" again.

NL Central:

Pirates - Add a gold alternate jersey for home. Maybe even a new primary pirate logo (I'm thinking the John Wayne-Mel Gibson one brought back)

Cubs - Put the cubby-head back on the sleeves, and the "Cubs-circle" logo on the roads.

Astros - Start wearing the grays on the road more.

Cardinals - Put "St. Louis" on the roads. Otherwise, perfect.

Brewers - Put "Milwaukee" on the roads. Otherwise, perfect.

Reds - They don't need no stinkin' black!

NL West:

Rockies - Purple alternate, get rid of the road pinstripes, and just have a "C-mountain" as the new cap logo.

Padres - They look good in whatever they try on...just add the Swinging Friar as the sleeve patch.

Diamondbacks - Go back to the color scheme you won the World Series in! If not, at least make the "A" on chest the primary home jersey look again.

Dodgers - Perfect.

Giants - Put the "San Francisco" script from the jackets on the road jersey? Otherwise, perfect.

I believe this is correct. Red Sox used the gold first in 2005. The Marlins celebrated the year before with a patch the entire season.

truth. the white sox also had a gold-trimmed jersey designed for them, but it never made it to the field/pre-game intros. it actually looked nice IMO.

For 2012 I would like to see the Brewers add the "Milwaukee" script to their primary road gray jerseys across the chest. Then on the sleeves for the road jerseys use the M behind the state of Wisconsin logo to represent the state.

Ha, I'd love to see the Yankees try this today...the level of hate would be insane.

The black and gold Giants hat looks amazing.

Hey Folks, since we're talkin 2012 MLB, I was listening to the 'Primetime Sports with Bob McCowan' Podcast from Monday April 4th, and he mentioned that he has heard that the Blue Jays will be getting a new look for 2012. He suggested to Co-Host and Globe and Mail Columnist Stephen Brunt that if he likes the Black Uniforms, he should go and get one now, because they won't be around next season. He said he wasn't sure what exactly they were doing; whether they were adopting a retro look, or something new entirely, but that the executives with Rogers and Blue Jays were implying a change is in the works.

I'm gonna call this as true, as McCowan is on a first name basis with all of the Big Wheels at Rogers and the Blue Jays, so I trust 100% in what he is saying. Whether it happens remains to be seen. Personally, I'm in the 'Put the Blue Back in Blue Jays', camp, and would like nothing more than for them to adopt their World Series Era Logo and Uniforms. I am however open to an overhaul, so long as it makes Blue the Primary Colour again!

Marlins announced they will unveil their 2012 set on 11-11-11.

But comets will crash into the earth on 11- 1-11. That means we'll miss them.
