2012 MLB Season

Evil won tonight, as did in late June. Can't wait until I die on December 21.

Evil lost fairly recently to the Giants in the NLCS, actually. The Heat? Really?

Time for a CS85 "what" gif reaction:

Congrats to the Giants and their fans. Condolences to the Bills, er, Tigers.

Well, at least it's San Francisco who are the monsters who are postponing the healing from Michigan's economic malaise this time.

Hell of a way for the Tigers to go out after mollywopping the Yankees in the ALCS.

Miguel Cabrera caught looking at the final pitch almost overshadows him winning the AL Triple Crown. Two strikes... Two outs... It he's gonna be the first triple crown winner in 50 years and AL MVP, dude has gotta take a hack at that! Stunning.

I don't dislike them or begrudge them their success, it's just that I never felt like the Giants or Tigers were ever the best teams in baseball. I guess the expanded wild card indirectly helped bring about the randomness I suppose we needed. Are we happy with it?

Happy with it? You better believe it.

I hated the wild card, but can't deny the results. The postseasons are amazing, and the end of the season has never been better than it has in recent years.

Unless you're going to let regular-season record decide the world champs, there's always going to be a nagging feeling that the best team didn't win. But if you're going to have a playoff, this system seems about perfect.

While it's not my favorite playoff system, at least Major League Baseball has a legit format, based on wins and losses. (college football.)

Except the expanded wild card had no bearing on the Tigers or Giants in this case. Both were division winners. They would've been in the playoffs under the 1995-2011 format as well.

You could have had playoffs similar to this one without letting another team in to the playoffs though.

Edit: Nevermind. I see you were talking about the one wild card per league format. I, too, think the 1994-2011 format is best.

No. I wanted to see Reds-Nationals or Reds-Cardinals for rivalry reasons and instead we got Giants-Cardinals, which was lame because both teams have won so recently and when both teams have recent championships, it's hard to feel like anything is at stake. The only special thing about this postseason was the Giants two comebacks, but that accomplishment doesn't feel like it's on the level it should be because of the fact that they won so recently.

There were a lot of series that went the distance in this postseason, but I don't think we had any moments that were truly spectacular that we'll remember forever. I think as time goes on 2012's postseason will ultimately be one of those years we gloss over, like 2009.

From a Reds fan standpoint there's a couple ways I can look at this. I can let it eat at me that the team we had on the ropes just blazed through our division rival and the AL representative and think about how that could've been us. Or, I can take solace in the fact that the team that beat us went on to win the whole thing. Also, so happy it wasn't the Cardinals or the Yankees. Both would've sucked equally hard.

Um, yes we are. If another team besides the Giants was truly the best team in baseball, they'd have proven it in the playoffs, end of story.

Well, obviously they are now, I just said I didn't feel like they were prior to sweeping the Giants. Just as the A's were never the best team in their division till they won it on the last day, at which point they were.

Even though my favorite team won World Series, today is always a bit of a sad day for me because it means that baseball is over till April. I always miss the hell out of baseball. The good news for me though is that I just moved to the Phoenix area and the Arizona Fall League starts soon! That'll get me through till spring training and the WBC.

As a life long Giants fan these past few years have been remarkable. Thank you Giants and especially thank you Barry Zito.

Seems fitting the parade will be on Halloween. Orange & black forever.

To all you blowhards and windbags on here: keep complaining because it brings a smile to my face.

Oh and one more thing just to piss off Dodger fans :):

Most World Series Championships:

1. Yankees (27)

2. Cardinals (11)

3. A's (9)

4. Red Sox (7)

5. Giants (7)

6. Dodgers (6)

The Nationals were 5-1 against San Francisco this year and say "Hello!"

Playoffs in general and baseball playoffs specifically, showcase randomness. The best team doesn't always win. That's why they're so fun. The Giants are a good team and played well at the end and deserve their championship. But I think the idea of "if another team is better, they'd prove it in the playoffs" is silly. You can argue the Giants were the best team in October, but it's a harder argument to make that they were the best team in baseball.

Such is the playoffs.

Congratulations, San Francisco.
