Not sure if it has been mentioned, but the Marlins have 'officially' dropped the orange caps and road uniforms. Marketing guy mentioned it during a telecast a few weeks back. Team has been wearing orange/black alternates on the road all season.

them choosing not to wear them for a season does not mean they are "officially dropped", just means they are dumbasses

anyway, them dropping the road does not mean they are "dumbasses". the road was hideous anyway, and the orange hat was too bright for my tastes.

I agree about the road jersey, but the orange cap was the only saving grace in the set, IMO.

Racing stripes worked when players wore high sturrips that continued the effect.

It would work for Outman

Just looking at that photo really shows how awful that "Colorado" script is. And whose idea was it to have black numbers on a purple jersey?

-BigBubba

It's baseball. It's acceptable to put dark numbers on a dark jersey as long as it has a white outline.

Yeah exactly...it was probably the same guy who thought it'd be a good idea to put navy numbers on navy jerseys.

The Rockies could use a purple jersey with "Rockies" across the front. It'd be a solid alternate.

They should just take Colorado off and put Rockies on, that's been my opinion for years.

No, their PR guy said they won't be wearing it anymore. There is a difference.

Here's the article on the mothership regarding the orange caps and grey roads:

http://news.sportslogos.net/2013/07/28/marlins-grey-jersey-orange-cap-will-not-be-worn-in-2013/

“The red-orange cap and gray jersey will not be worn this year; prior to the season it was determined we would not wear them as part of the uniform combinations this season.” – Marlins Director, Media Relations Matt Roebuck

He said they will not be worn in 2013, not that they will never be worn again.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/30/sports/baseball/the-mets-darnaud-den-dekker-degrom.html?ref=baseball&_r=3&

In chronological order, the Mets have installed Travis d’Arnaud as the new starting catcher and called up outfielder Matt den Dekker, who got his first major league start on Thursday, against the Philadelphia Phillies. And looming at Class AAA Las Vegas is the impressive pitching prospect Jacob deGrom, who might have a shot at being part of the Mets’ major league staff next April.

Three d’s on a 25-man roster? If that isn’t a major league record, well, it should be.

All of this has left the Mets’ equipment manager, Kevin Kierst, typographically challenged. For the moment, the team does not have lowercase letters to accommodate the spelling of these last names. In d’Arnaud’s case, the Mets simply flipped an uppercase “P” upside down.

Meanwhile, den Dekker’s name is currently being spelled with a capital “DEN,” on his Mets jersey, although that may change next year, assuming he starts the season in the majors. And then there’s deGrom, an intriguing player in that he didn’t start pitching until his junior year of college.

I thought the white script on gray was refreshing and my favorite jersey of their entire set

Yes, it was, and the orange cap was a refreshing break from the red/navy/black norm of MLB. The black jerseys are hideous and the choices they're making are a shame. Hopefully this era in Marlins uniform history will be short-lived.

egad, what are the Marlins doing? I believe teams have to have a grey uni in their arsenal -- if only for official purposes/ All Star Games, etc. Shame.

And it's quite comical how a team that wanted to go bright and zany with their unis and new ballpark chooses to go with black hats and black aways...It just throws cold water over the whole look. I'm not a fan of Miami's look overall, but the orange cap/ white uni was fun, refreshing and caused the colors to pop...Isn't that what they wanted?

I really gotta say, the D Backs absolutely NAILED throwback night last night. They went all out from top to bottom, and everything from ticket stubs to TV graphics were purple and Teal. Hell, even the A logo on the mound behind the pitcher was in the old colors!

It really makes me miss the old color scheme.

Sorry but the A logo is so much better than the D logo. But I do like the old color scheme.

Well, Kevin Kierst and the New York Times are intelligence challenged. Or maybe common sense challenged? Do the rest of the Mets officially spell their last names in ALL CAPS? That David WRIGHT sure is a solid player. Johan SANTANA is quite the pitcher. Did the Times even read what they typed? Sorry... pet peeve.

And the Marlins are ridiculous. The orange cap gave them the opportunity to make the new set more interesting. Instead, it's barely different than their previous black-dominant set.

Only thing that would have made it better would be covering all the Chase Field signage with "Bank One Ballpark".

I agree. That actually would be pretty awesome.
