I only ask because besides that debacle in 2007 (even as a Tribe fan I had to skip buying that hat), they did throwbacks up until last year. I'm thinking they'll go with the regular sets + a Civil Rights hat patch, but wanted to see if anyone knew definitively.

I'm a bit disappointed as I was hoping they'd wear the vests from their World Series run on the road vs Philly, then either the home vests or home purples with the purple hat on the 31st. In not sure they even ever wore this specific combination at home.

That would be a pretty stupid rule, as their previous set was miles better than their current one.

Right, but the point is that if you're going to commit to moving on, you have to make a clean break. Now on one hand, yeah, they won a World Series in their old set. On the other hand, they're an expansion team from 1998. C'mon.

Everything about their old color scheme is better than the current, glad they're throwing these back.

I like the old ones, but I think it's worlds dumb to throwback to a set that was worn by players still playing today. I think this is a case of a '90s expansion team getting a bit too eager. Not quite "Golly, let's retire Wade Boggs' number and name a team award after him!!!!!" eager, but up there.

It's a case of the D Backs bailing way too early on a unique color set and trying to recover when they realized just how much the local fans liked the original look. It wouldn't have been so bad had they made minor adjustments, but they departed entirely from the 90s vibrant and flashy color scheme to a very conservative and understated look and now they've got a big problem because the fanbase sports a terrible mish mash of colors that support the same team, but visually are entirely different.

And the worst part is that their current colors are actually pretty solid. But they're used wrong. And they emphasized the wrong color which was too far of a departure from their history. The sand is bad too because it makes the whole set so dull and drab. Had they hung into the copper color instead of using sand, and used black as a base instead of brick red (and only used brick as an accent color), they could've gotten the conservative look they were aiming for that is still more vibrant and isn't such a huge departure from the original look.

They should have gone for a more teal and purple hat and jersey. This one looks very black with just a hint of those colours.

They went all-purple for their throwback promotion last year, so I could see why they'd want to mix it up a bit this time.

I think it would have looked great, but as a black, copper, and teal team in Phoenix named after a snake, I don't think the Diamondbacks would have want to be accused of borrowing too heavily from Arena Football, of all places.

That would've looked great, but purple was such an important part of the old identity. If they removed purple only, we would've had the same situation that the Phoenix Suns are in right now (reducing/eliminating one primary color in favor of other colors in the identity).

I never understood all the love for the D-Back original set, it's was pretty dated looking right from the start. I think their new set is much better but I think some of the hate comes from them basically stealing the Astros color scheme from the same time.
