MLB 2016 Changes

The white and orange looked awful on the navy cap because the values were so far off. White and gold will look the same at any distance, so legibility against blue will not be an issue.

I don't know. I think the yellow is slightly better than the orange but not by much. For me it makes the S stand out too much. And doesn't work on a light background (navy S and yellow D).

New home mockup is correct but no outline on the 'SD'

Which SD, the one on the hat or on the jersey? If there isn't one on the jersey that's going to look weird IMO.

I'm thinking he meant jersey because he's already said the cap will have a yellow "D" to go with the white "S".

I missed that. Sad, a white S and yellow D, to me, are not going to look good. In fact, if that was the case why would they use the all white version on the new All Star logo? Wondering.

Sounds like it's going to be used with three different jerseys, as opposed to the white and yellow SD's one.

So I guess at this point, it seems Seattle isn't making changes then (and there was never a report or rumor, just curiosity on my part). I figure we'd have heard by now.

I'd been a little curious with a few past facebook posts (including two more today) and thier Season Review PDF seeming to favor the Sunday alt and throwback colors. Maybe they just really like it for some reason, and that's all there is to it? If they aren't changing, good on them. Navy and teal needs to stay.

Similarly to the Padres, the Mariners are a horrible organization. They won't change next season, but they very well might in the next couple of years just to try to bring interest back to the fanbase after more front-office bumbling and flops on big money free agents.

So, the Padres have added yellow to their identity. They will proudly feature yellow. But not on the road. And not on Fridays (brown), Saturdays (navy) and Sundays (camo). So they've added a new color to their identity to actually wear it 3-4 games a week, tops (not counting the fauxbacks which is an entirely different thing). If they actually go with that schedule, they'll only wear the yellow-accented home jersey 42 times next season. It's not as bad as the Braves only looking like the Braves on Mon-Thurs home games, since the Braves' home set is iconic and the Padres are going to look bad no matter what, but it's just as dumb.

The never ending Padres identity crisis continues I guess..

I'm actually quite sure the Padres have never gone 10+ years with a consistent look. Since their founding in 1969, they've made some kind of change, whether to colors or uniform template, that has never lasted longer than 10 seasons. If anything, they are consistent in their inconsistency.

Oh my gosh they are like just like Oregon!!!!11!! How SICK is that??

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I guess the closest they came to "consistent" was their navy and orange era, which wasn't anything great, either. Maybe they should have let the team move to Washington in '74.

Yeah in theory that was a pretty good change, but in reality it just makes the whole set look way too busy.

Well, I do have three proposals regarding the Mariners' script situation. Note, these all feature a brightening of the shade of teal, so that it contrasts more with the navy blue.

- the top option would involve thickening outlines and removing the silver/white outline (which is probably my preferred choice)

- the middle option has the thick outlines and the silver/white outlines (which do clutter the look a bit)

- the bottom option features teal scripts with navy outlines (which I also like, as it refreshes the set while keeping visual continuity intact - and would ensure that both the home and road uniforms would use the teal-billed cap full time)

I prefer the top option also; I like a navy script better and the top option makes the teal more visible in that regard. The brightened teal looks great with navy. It's almost like a more vibrant sea-foam green, which fits perfectly for the Mariners.
