Serious question, and maybe I missed the answer already.. but I've seen multiple times that the Jets are obligated to have the word "JETS" on their helmets.. is this true? And what is the source? That seems odd, and who would they be contractually beholden to?

No, it's a joke.

The concord logo actually looks more like it belongs with the new set. That should've been a no brainer. Rounded, unstreamlined old JETS sticks out like a sore thumb on these.

I agree but i think they wanted to keep aspects of both ERA's , they made the wrong decision but they tried to recreate the JETS concorde on the helmet with the JETS football.

My bad...I think I was the one who stated this so sorry to have mislead you.  Every helmet design they've had since taking the "Jets" cognomen has had the name displayed in some form, so this new set continues that quotidian custom.

Also, great usage of "beholden".  It's the only reason I tried to insert "quotidian".

Yeah, that's my only real gripe here. The old script would have worked better  on that (gorgeous) helmet. I guess their reasoning was probably along the lines (pun intended) of the striping being the jet representation. I guess the resemblance of the shoulder stripes to airplane wings, and the vaguely jetlike nature of the pants stripes, are why I don't mind said striping as much as some seem to. My only real issue with the stripes is that I wish the shoulder ones wrapped around for a contrast-colored nameplate, as I've already mentioned. Still, it would've been nice to use the old script or at least a modernized version of it, and the helmet seems like it would've been the most obvious place to put that.

Exactly. These are fine, but it’s not a unique look.

The jersey stripes are similar to the Chargers and Browns. The big chest wordmark is a Browns thing. The pants stripes are similar to what teams wore 15 years ago, and there is a resemblance to the pants from an older Saskatchewan uniform.

The Jets completely owned their previous look. This green, with fixed shoulder stripes and striped green socks for last year’s template would’ve been perfect. And 100 percent the Jets’ look to own. Oh well.

And yet, the previous set wasn't unique by your standards in that it replicated the Colts look as closely as the comparisons you are making for the new Jets' uniform (similar being the key word).

It's where I sit.

Wrong. The new Jets uni is clearly a blatant rip-off of the Farmdale High School football team of Long Island, NY.

I'm a Nassau County guy, and New York City is my city the same way it is for someone from the Hudson Valley or North New Jersey, or southern Connecticut.

I give you a like for being from Nassau but I reserve the right to rescind it if you're from the North Shore 🤣 .

You know, the more I see of that old 90s Jets logo, the more I kinda hate it. I seriously didn’t even realize the weird slash above the word Jets was supposed to be a plane until recently. That made it a cooler logo to me, but it’s still pretty clunky. Plus, the Concorde was discontinued because it was expensive as hell to run and unnecessarily dangerous. Imagine all the Jets jokes we’d get if they had a logo that was a plane known for bursting into flames mid flight. It was a good move leaving that in the past.

If I remember correctly, about a year ago there was a discussion on these boards about a graphic of some sorts that depicted an all black Vikings uniform that was to be used in their previous set, but was ultimately scrapped. In that discussion there were multiple people who liked it and never screamed bloody murder for BFBS yet here we are doing that exact thing for the Jets all black uniform. I get it though. Opinions change, but just seems a little odd.

Possibly because people who don't like black uniforms where black is instituted for no good reason didn't feel the need to comment on a concept or something that wasn't real.

The two uniforms are very different. The Jets’ contrast sleeve makes them hard to confuse for each other.

Gotham green looks suspiciously like the color the Saskatchewan Rough Riders use.

I'll give you that for the roads, but not the homes 🙂

I just like making jokes about Time-Flight, a “so bad, it’s secretly brilliant” bit of Classic Doctor Who.

Apparently, Concorde contains the tech that’ll help The Master gain access to an alien power that’ll help reactivate his TARDIS. How does Master attempt to get it? Well, he rips Concordes from time while dressed like this:

Apparently, Master was huffing paint before deciding on this plan.

Anyway, the Jets’ new uniforms are decent. I like that it has some internal continuity with the outlines and the jet trail stripes, while the font is decent. I do wish that the helmet had a better logo or the jet trail, but that’s a minor complaint. I’m just glad it isn’t some military fetishist design.

I like it for the most part nothing special but at least nothing that to me makes this look terrible. The helmet like most people are saying does not match the rest of the uniform. I do not know why they did not simply do either one of these & put it on the helmet I like the first one the best

The wordmark you used in the second version is very reminiscent of the BNSF railway logo:

This to me is the perfect representation of to each their own when it comes to uniforms.

When the Jets went back to the Broadway Joe look back in 98, I welcomed the change but didn't have any nostalgia for the set because I grew up well after their SB victory, in the ruins...just like Kyle Reese.  I came up with the green helmet and the Concorde logo, and...used to see the actual Concorde fly over (i believe it was one round-trip per day b/t London and New York and Paris and New York by British Airways and Air France, respectively).

I don't remember my point...oh yeah, the Concorde logo was awesome.

They can't even keep their corporate BS straight!  Notice how 'New York brought to the forefront' on the top logo WITHOUT SAYING NEW YORK.
