Oregon Rose Bowl uniforms

Jerseys aren't too bad in my opinion. At least they're green and yellow and not anthracite and volt.

My reaction to the helmets however is very similar to LaMichael James on this roller coaster.

That is priceless! Where did you get that?

Kenjon Barner actually tweeted that picture. But then KegsNEggsBlog.com (which along with EDSBS, every college football fan should read for some good laughs) got a copy of a Barner Picture that isn't much better.

Wow, that's really not helping the whole "Oregon players are weak" sterotype.

Nice job guys <_<

I really do have to wonder when the NCAA is going to draw a line and tell these companies that they've gone too far. We've already seen an example with South Carolina's Wounded Warrior uniform. The NCAA needs to take harsher measures.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

I'm surprised at the backlash the helmet is receiving here. I personally love it seeing how it's the next logical step for Oregon from here.

It reminds me of this

My grandmother bought me this chrome pocket pros set about ten years ago. At the time I jokingly said "wouldn't it be crazy if a team actually wore a chrome helmet?" The answer is yes, it is crazy, but I like it and I'm surprising myself with how much I like it.

Why? Because you think they're ugly?

If it's a case like South Carolina, where the numbers are not readable, that's fine. That's affecting the ability to manage the game. The NCAA does not need to be legislating taste.

Thank you. This needed to be said. So what if a schools uniforms are crazy? As long as they don't create legibility issues, it's not hte NCAA's problem. They have better things to devote their time to than preventing NIke from making crazy uniforms.

The NCAA does have a right to step in when form takes precedence over function.

A uniform serves to identify and protect.

Identify: both team and player, through colors/striping and individual numbers.

Protect: to cover the padding underneath

At the very least, uniforms need to do this. But when the coloring and striping start making it hard to read numbers, there is a problem (see: UnderArmour, but Nike is going in that direction with a few of Oregon's sets [light silver/gray on white, for example] ).

The tighter fits of uniforms are also taking away their ability to cover padding, whether it's sleeveless jerseys exposing shoulder pads, overly tight tops exposing the back pads at the base of the spine, or the biker shorts that have led to the removal of knee padding.

Anything that causes padding to be exposed (making it unsafe for everyone) or requires the officials to work harder to read numbers (taking their eyes off the play as a whole) should be kept off the field.

And let's hope no one gets blinded or anything by the glare off the mirrored helmet finishes. It's one thing for light to reflect off metallic helmets, but when everyone is basically wearing mirrors on their heads. I see this a freak inujry waiting to happen.

For the record, I don't think the Oregon jerseys shown above are the worst I've ever seen. They would be better if they numbers were lighter, either yellow or white.

If its any consolation, both of those rides are scary as :censored:. You'd probably look like that too in your picture. I sure as hell always do :P

They are certainly not the worse ever, probably not in the top (bottom?) ten. They are better than the New York Islanders thirds. Whenever I look at those, I lose my will to live...

I don't like it but I also don't dislike it. I mean honestly for me the part I hate the most is that I'm gonna have to find a way to render this cluster :censored: of a design in the duck tracker next week, seriously how am I supposed to do that, oh well I'll figure it out somehow. If anything else this whole set just feels unnecessary, its just a mash up of all nikes tricks plus some new ones, it's just is not needed.

Also I knew it wouldn't happen but I have wished all season that they would just wear the one combo they already have that makes the best use of school colors I can think of. That would be green helmet, yellow jersey, and green pants. They have never done it and I am perplexed as to why.

When I first saw the helmet in Nike's promo pics I thought they were black with decos. Which wasn't ideal. Now they seem to be chrome with a ghost wing pattern. Terrible. So close Nike. AT least the jerseys are nice. For Oregon.

I'm kinda curious how those mirrordomes (my word-I coined it) will react in the Pasadena sun, especially since they seem to reflect the ceiling and ecerything else within eyesight in those pictures. I have to think, though, that the Swoosh already tested those helmets out in the sunlight before dipping them in whatever they dipped them in to achieve that look. It'd be real funny if the game officials kicked the team off the field due to being blinded or otherwise too distracted by the super-shininess.

(In fact, a part of me secretly hopes that exact scenario does happen--if only to watch this thread/board explode with equal parts fanboy vitriol and uncontrollable belly laughter from everyone else in response.)

That's pretty much my thoughts as well. I think from the jersey down, the uniform is great. Love the numbers especially. But the helmet makes absolutely no sense to me, at all. I mean, it matches with nothing else on that set. It'd be one thing if it were a black helmet with yellow wings or something, because at least those would match. But there isn't a single element of that helmet that matches with anything else on that uniform, and while it may be a neat helmet on it's own, it doesn't change the fact that it doesn't fit at all with the uniform. I think that's the biggest problem with it. I just looks like a random addition that someone would make for kicks and giggles on a combo maker or NCAA 12.

EDIT: And Buc, I was actually thinking of that helmet scenario as well. I'd imagine those would be pretty reflective in the sun. I'm curious to see how they look in that element.

I actually had no plans to watch any bowl games, but obviously I will have to check out the Rose Bowl now... ^_^

So the next time we have a negative opinion of a uniform reveal, I propose we just post that picture.

Although I don't disagree with the legibility statements, I don't think the exposure of the arm pads is a harm to anyone. Anything that would harm someone that's in that area would harm them with fabric over it. having the arm pad exposed isn't going to cause harm to the player wearing it. As for the backpads I can see a point somewhat where that typically is a hard sharper plastic however those have been exposed in the college ranks since they started wearing them. (again, is a piece of fabric going to protect anyone from a back pad?) Anytime you have a jersey that doesn't tuck in they tend to ride up, especially when being tackled. Images of running backs with the back pad exposed have been seen for decades.

The biker shorts thing I agree with but until the NCAA madates knee pads (and if they do already, start enforcing it) its a comfort thing for the player. Or its a "bad ass" thing for the player. Either way that part is on the NCAA. A player can pull a regular pair of pants above his knee, cut them off, whatever. You notice that in these photos Nike is showing all padding including the knee pads. Heck even the butt pad which most High Schoolers don't wear.

Adidas tech fits (nike's might as well, I don't know for sure) have a pocket inside the shoulder that holds that shoulder pad in. If its put in there its VERY difficult to get out, it has to be pulled out. It won't fall out from random movement. The players are probably not using these pockets when they are exposed. The manufactures are not trying to have exposed padding, they are actually trying to keep it in.
