EDIT: Forgot about Cincy's B logo. Great as an alternate, not so much though as a primary. The Bengal head is perfect

Except it and the leaping tiger logo were both headed the wrong direction. That has always thrown me off.

Maybe it's because I'm so used to seeing it face one way, but that logo has always looked strange when flipped the other direction

There's no such thing as a "wrong direction" for a logo.

Take a look at the Ravens. Everything about the B fits the right-facing logo. Doesn't work as well when the bird is facing left.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

No, but most NFL logos are looking right as if they're moving left to right, the same way we read.

Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Ravens, Texans, Jaguars, Titans, Broncos, Chiefs, Vikings, Lions, Falcons, Panthers, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Rams, Seahawks all use right facing logos as their primary logo even though they all use a flipped version on the other side of their helmet (except the Vikings). The Eagles are the only ones who use a primary logo that isn't a monogram or a shield that faces the left.

I'm with you all the way. Good list.

Three outlines? The old Panthers logo needs three outlines? Awful.

Exactly...

A blue outline. then a black outline, then a white outline? WTH? Maybe they didn't use a keyline on the current logo because they'd used them all up here.

I really don't get the dislike for outlines here. A keyline, like any other element, isn't necessarily good or bad. It is, in my opinion, all dependent on execution. The outlines, in the case of the Panthers' old logo, worked well. Does every logo need two or three outlines? No. In this case though? I thought it worked.

So playing around with the logo slick from the 2012 NIKE takeover of the NFL for the San Fran 49ers, I accidentally released a few clipping masks and this was what I found

Not sure what year this is from, but what could this mean for their uniform future?

I think they were planning on using that as a throwback in either 2012 or 2013 and eventually scrapped it.

yeah a white outline isn't really that eggregious. If it was blue-silver-black, or blue-white-black then it'd look bad, but the white is so innocuous. If anything it balances out the white in the whiskers and teeth a little bit.

If you want to argue that the center stripes should have white too then OK. But I don't think the extra white outline is nearly as bad as most (if any) cases where a logo has three outlines.

The reading left to right argument is dumb to me... If you read left to right, wouldn't the first thing you want to see of your logo be the face and not the rear end?

It's not an argument. That's the explanation for why so many logos face the right. And we're not reading the logo left to right, the logo is moving left to right.

Left to right subconsciously implies forward movement.

I'm not saying all logos have to face the same way, there's obviously exceptions, but most point towards the right.

That's exactly how I feel, and why I think the Eagles have it right.

If your logo really is supposed to depict motion, then I kinda get moving left to right. But if it's just a profile, then I think face on the left is better.

^ That would be too similar to their current look.

The Bills are guilty of doing this. There's no reason for them to wear the Standing Buffalo Throwbacks anymore but they do it anyways.

They had been wearing that before their switch to their current set. It could be something about them being an AFL team or some kind of grandfather clause?

Go A's!
