Seems like Baylor could score 100 points every game. Why aren't they ranked #1?

Every year in CFB there's some offensive juggernaut that seems unstoppable, and everybody thinks they've reinvented the game. Last year it was the Ducks. And every year, that team gets to the bowl season, sometimes even the championship. And that's when a team that isn't trying to reinvent football... just trying to play it the way its always been played but play it that way really really well, shuts that offensive juggernaut down. Don't be surprised when it happens again.

Fair enough, but I guess this shows why I don't get college football. Rankings mean so much and there's a team that's blowing out all of its competition (well, seems like Iowa State narrowed the gap after my comment). College football starts the seasons with rankings, and if you're #1 last year you generally start the next season that way. That seems dumb to me.

I think if you're in a power five conference and your margin of victory is better than everyone else's, you're the best team. OSU has had a couple of squeakers and Baylor hasn't. Why is the former a "better" team? And would they be if they didn't start at no. 1?

The current rankings don't mean a few thing since the Coach Poll isn't done by the coaches, but by their SIDs.

Playoff Committee which doesn't meet until after next week's games has been preaching that scheduling matters and Baylor has stayed with previous contracts and played historically poor teams. Their list is the only one which matters.

Can Penn State please fire John Donovan already? I know Hack makes bad decisions, but the play-calling just absolutely kills.

Donovan is absolutely awful. The offensive scheme not only doesn't match Hack's skill set...the scheme hinders it.

Is it me or has there been an increase in TV Networks missing live plays because they are late returning from commercial and/or still trying to show the 15th view of the replay?

ESPN just spent way too long showing a replay of an unsportsmanlike penalty and came back at the end of a play in the Penn State/Maryland game. - This is just one example of what seems to be coming more common, unfortunately.

Looking forward to seeing how WKU stacks up against LSU.

Edit: Um, speaking of WKU/LSU, might be a slip & slide type of game:

They miss live plays partly because the games are too damn long and the network knows every play is under review, so if questionable, they show the audience the play.

Games are four hours not because of commercials, but because of game timing/clock stoppages.

Lol at the idea some had at the beginning of the year of Arizona being a playoff team.

So assuming Notre Dame beats Temple next Saturday night, I would imagine that Temple will drop in the rankings.

But why? Isn't a 11 ranked team supposed to beat a 22 ranked team? If that 22 ranked team plays horribly, and a team ranked below them plays great, then OK I kinda get it, but I don't understand why teams almost always drop after losing to higher-ranked teams.

Becuase Temple hasn't beaten anyone other than Penn State. If they finish 11-1 they probably still get a spot in the top 25, but losing to notre dame, unless it's an extremely close game that goes right down to the wire, probably gets them out of the rankings, and deservedly so.

I'm speaking in general, not specific to Temple. Just used them as an example because it's what I'm hearing about this week - I have no idea who they played other than Penn St or if they're any good.

Logically though, if I've ranked a team 1 and another team 2, and 1 beats 2, unless 2 totally blows and 3 showed that they're closer to 1 than 2, should 2 drop?

These rankings don't matter!

Rankings do not matter until the College Football Playoff Committee actually gives out their rankings in November.

No, because it's all about context. Temple is only ranked as high as it is because they haven't lost. College is not just about your record, it's about how impressive your record is. It's why Boise State doesn't go to the playoff every year. They win a lot of games, but against nobody.

Poor Frank Beamer.

That was the second 4OT game today and coach ineptness allowed a true cover

Your not wrong. I know a Hail Mary isn't likely, but a 67-yard field goal has NEVER happened. Not even in Denver. Plus they failed to cover the same post route in OT 3 times.

A 4OT game allowed Duke to cover the Spread!

Like Auburn's FG to tie at regulation later allowed Arkansas to cover the 5.5!!!
