ASU going G/M/M for USC. Breaking out Sparky for homecoming! And I believe it's the first time for gold socks?

I've never been hugely on this train before, but this just about does it for me, they need to put sparky on the helmet full time. It just looks so complete with that logo on there rather than the pitchfork that blends in with the rest of the uni's numerous pitchforks.

Oregon State/Stanford is a really nice looking game, and the Beavs look incredible in this black/orange/black combination with the alternate black helmets and pants.

Seeing how good OSU looks tonight makes me think that their next set should have the single orange stripe on the black uniform elements rather than a white/orange/white stripe so there’s continuity between the striping on all of the different uniform pieces. Plus, the full stripe on these helmets and pants looks much better than the truncated and tapered stripes on their regular helmets and pants.

Oregon State does look pretty sharp tonight. Only one minor gripe. Think the numbers would look better with a white outline.

I actually think the absence of white helps the look. I think if white were to be added to the numbers as an outline, then it should be added to the logo as well.

Is that matte yellow? Not a fan. It looks more like one of those novelty helmet cakes than an actual football helmet to me.

But there is white in the logo. The beaver's teeth and in it's eye.... Did you mean a white outline on the beaver logo?

That's a fine looking helmet and jersey...

Wear gold pants, and you'd really have something going.

Totally agree. But I think the reason they went with the maroon pants is because SC will be wearing gold pants.

Sparky really does does need to be back on the lids. I've grown to love the forks, but Sparky needs to be front and center.

Just put the forks on the shoulders/sleeve cap and Sparky on the helmet.

Looking at it all together, I feel Scarlet numbers would’ve been a way better choice

At at this point, they may as well have just made it a greyscale version of their normal uniform, with a dark grey jersey and white numbers. Coupled with Penn State’s mostly colorless away look, it would have looked like a black and white TV game.

Was there ever a publicized reason for the black TV numbers on these throwback revivals? I still can’t figure it out, though oddly, I don’t hate it.

I'm surprised they haven't released a new template altogether yet. The current template is outdated and other manufacturers have released a number of other templates since this one came out.

UCLA Bruins football uniforms

It's actually over 8 years old as UCLA wore this starting in 2010. The only major changes were the pattern and the neckline.

The one holdout that was Michigan, but only for the home jerseys.

There have been several different uniform templates during this time. The originals had the raglan style seams and the trapezoid collar. Then the collar was minimized. Then they started offering a version with more traditional set-in sleeves, which became popular with QBs, who wore it while most of the other players wore the raglan cut. Then came the versions with the contrast knit patterns, and you’ll probably see more variations into the future. There really hasn’t been much need to radically change the build because players love it. You can even see the influence as the new Vapor Utouchable has gone to a more seamless, engineered style reminiscent of Techfit as opposed to the multi-panel, full-of-seams, mixed material build of the previous Nike jerseys.

Which is funny because that's part that there's a great argument should be orange

Good point. but the changes have been so minimal, aesthetically, that they all get lumped into the same bag.

Well, the reason they were on the throwbacks is because they were on the originals;

But if you're asking why they were black on the original, that's a damn good question, one I've wondered about for years.  My theory (just a guess) is that they were added as an afterthought.  Here is the '67 team shot...

72171_h.jpg?itok=htodnAYI

It's hard to tell but it seems like in '67 they have the classic modified NW stripe, but no TV numbers.  And in '68, when the numbers were added, they actually were placed partially on the stripes like in the above images. Maybe the thought was that a white number would get lost in the stripes so they went with black.  The next year they moved up to the shoulder but stayed black.  And by '70 they went to white at home, scarlet on the road.

My question is why those throwback whites didn't have black TV numbers. I was disappointed in that decision.  You say you don't hate it?  Let me go further... I love it! If it were up to me, black TV numbers would become a permanent feature on tOSU's uniforms. Like the Dodgers' red front numbers, and the NY Giants' road jersey's lack of blue, it's one of those "lost to history" quirks that make me love a design even more.
