Rite of Spring 2019: The Chase for the Stanley Cup

Oh my the roller coaster of emotions I and I think all hockey fans just experienced while watching on tv or attending the game experienced last night.

When it Vegas scored 3-0, I had my gray Sharks “Our Home - Our Ice” shirt on and said to myself, “ugh I just don't feel it” meaning comeback. So I took that off and put my more comfortable teal shirt on.  Was happy they battled to get it to game 7, but disappointed because it didn’t look promising.

Then Pavelski goes down and I seriously didn’t care about the outcome of the game seeing the replay, seeing the blood, I started shaking, I had to get up and walk around my house. All I wanted was Pavs to be ok.

Then Randy Hahn was saying it might be 5 and a game. I thought if they give Sharks a 5minute PP I don't see the Sharks losing this game.  Jumbo doesnt wear the C, but he is no doubt a leader and veteran presence. Couture stepped up big along with the PP unit. Labanc was on fire. Then Vegas ties... because of course they do. I just threw my arms up and said to myself “I don’t know anymore” just win it for Pavs.

But Sharks found a way to win. When I saw Goodrow score, I just sat silently for a few moments like “Did this just happen?”  Before going into Joe Staley, Douglas Murray-like exuberance.

I was at the Sharks game in I think 08 when the Sharks were down 3-1 in series to Dallas and in Game 5, the Sharks went down 0-2, rallied to tie it, and won it OT. Who scored the OT winner? Joe Pavelski. The arena went bananas and  I went to work the next day and could not hear anything. I would expect the noise level last night was much much louder.

At least I'm not a two-faced hockey fan when it comes to supporting teams in Canada. Unlike all those who are fans of U.S. franchises, where loyalty is s**t to them, loyalty means something to me.

When it comes to Canada's teams, they're the only ones worth half of a damn. The U.S. teams aren't sacred cows, and shouldn't be worshipped like the false messiahs they all are.

The NHL has been a majority-US league for 93 years. 10 American franchises have been in the league longer than all but Montreal and Toronto. Hate to break it to you, but the NHL has almost never been Canadian league in terms of franchises.

I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence!

Eakin totally did that :censored: and they called it properly. Not even close to the Saints-Rams no-call. And giving up 4 goals in 5 minutes, power play or not, is stupid. That's on you, Knights. Also, they've been the favorite sons of the league since the Expansion Draft and will continue that preferential treatment for the next expansion draft so don't tell me the league is out to get them. :censored: them forever and go fall in a hole.

I just want to say to any Vegas Golden Knights fans, I don't have any animus towards you. I just think your introduction to hockey was far too easy and you didn't get properly :censored: on for the right amount of time while also being so obviously coddled by the league offices. Blowing a 3-1 lead and 3-0 third period lead in Game 7 is a step in the right direction.

The Sharks have to be the favorites to come out of the West now. Yikes.

Whelp, it looks like my allusions to grunge-metal, Italian Mondo movies, and a variety of other vices has paid off!

Go Sharks! Go Slick Joey! May your dirty play drive you further. Now, take the Avs to the hydration chamber and give them a swim.

Vegas, don’t feel bad. Falling apart in the end is a natural part of NHL life. Get used to it and develop a secret loathing of your team, one that only comes out every once in a while. Us Tiburones fans developed our love-hate relationship long ago, and we’re totally well-adjusted people!

If you can’t tell, I like being Sharks-adjacent. It allows me to just ramble and joke in ways I can’t with my other teams.

Self-loathing, huh? I guess that's what happens with U.S. NHL fans who feel guilty being fans of a game/sport they didn't create and curate.

I guess that's what the almighty $$$$$$$$ does, huh?

A thought...

What if we collectively pool our $5 interests in that ABA franchise we tried buying years ago and used that to have the call girl card guys on the Vegas Strip switch to handing out printed copies of Rule 59 for a couple weeks?

With my moderator hat firmly placed on my head, I will remind everyone in this thread to dial it back on the profanity, name-calling and ranting/raving. I understand that emotions are running high after last night, but that's no excuse. Compose yourself before posting, and express your opinions in a civil manner. Further outbursts may result in suspensions.

It was a 3-1 series. It was a 3-0 lead. You gave up 4 goals on the same power play. You still had overtime (after having two overtimes in Game 6).

Don't want the refs to be the talking point of your entire offseason? End it by your own hand when you have the chances.
