I'm not sure where the idea that the large flags on the helmet are popular in Tampa comes from. I'm living here, and most people who mention the uniforms either say they need to go to the Creamsicles or the Super Bowl look. I don't think I've heard a single person say they like the giant flag logos on the helmet.

Well this part is true but as far as the helmet goes most people I talk to or read on social media do like them. It’s the one element they do like about the current set.

Ive been a Bucs fan most of my life and therefore interact with an inordinate amount of Buccaneers fans. I’ve yet to hear a single fan outside of here say they like the oversized flags.

Of course, that’s just my personal experience and obviously doesn’t represent the entirety of the Bucs fanbase. But, I sort of do actively seek that kind of info out (sadly).

Me as well and I’ve seen it on twitter and other websites many many a time. It’s always someone saying “don’t mess with the helmet”. If you lived here maybe you’d hear it more.

Decided to try my hand at a helmet concept I had in mind at work.  I barely use the pen tool, so forgive me.

I can say that about a lot of things on "my internet" and in my history research.

Raise your hand if you've spent time going through a readex archive looking for one obscure late-18th century news article and pamphlets on Internet Archive!

But back to the Bucs, I like what @CherryMX did with the Eagles/Vikings-like banner. I'm not sure if it's the most practical for all helmet models or if the center stripe is needed, but it's a big step up from the mega flag and machine skull art.

I don't want every single team using the same font

No, not every team. Just most of them.

While side panels should be completely nonexistent, custom numbers should be rare. A default setting of standard number fonts (in all sports) would allow for the existence of excellent custom fonts like those of the Bears or Blue Jays, without the disasters like the Bucs' alarm clock font.

Unpopular Opinion, as much as I love orange, the Bucs should just do away with it on the uniforms. Stick with just the red and pewter, and it still looks mighty fine. It's not like they had many successes in the Creamsicles anyway.

They haven't exactly been icons of exceptional success in the current color scheme either; they had a bunch of Wild Card/Divisional Round dropouts early on, one Super Bowl win just about two decades ago and they've never been past the Wild Card round since then; and the Bucs haven't even been to the Wild Card in over a decade.

They've spent the entirety of the 2010's never even making a single playoff appearance; only the Browns can claim a similarly dubious award. The Bucs of now are not known for a Super Bowl win over a decade ago, they're known for Famous Jameis' turnovers, endless playoff futility and having all of two seasons over a .500 winning percentage; a .625 in 2010 and a .563 in 2016.

They may have been bad in the Creamsicles, but they sure haven't been much better in the Pewter as of late, now have they? 😛 Hell, they're just about two seasons from matching the Creamsicle Bucs' playoff missing streak, if my math is right (though math has never been my strong suit, admittedly). If the look is locally popular, they'd do well to lean in on it.

Though it is the Bucs, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just doubled down on pewter.

I couldn’t disagree more. It’s certainly not great as a number font, but it’s definitely better than the current mess. It’s basically Romulan Falcon, which is the same font as the old Bucs wordmark (which is WAY better than the robotic looking crap they’re using now).

The actual font name was (is?!) Totally Gothic... Romulan Falcon was the freeware/knockoff version.

That said... now that I look at this again after almost six years, yeesh was that a product of its time! In a weird way I still kinda like it, and it serves as a nice base to build upon, but you certainly won't see me advocating for its return anytime soon.

Yeah, I knew the actual proprietary font had a different name, but I couldn’t remember the name and RF is basically identical to it.

I still disagree that it looks “dated” in a bad sense, though. They’re a team that took on that whole Captain Hook 17th/18th century looking aesthetic. That font is intended to look dated.

The current font, OTOH, is absolutely a product of its time, and looked dated as soon as it was released.
