Nothing like announcing, what the fanbase already knows, they haven't won jack in 30 years

Is that official? They got the seasons wrong for 83, 88, and 92. Technically that's the calendar year when they won those Super Bowls, but the accepted practice is go by the year the majority of the season happened. This right now is still the 2021 NFL season even though it's 2022. The Bengals or Rams will be the champions of 2021.

They tweeted it and already have merchandise with it.  Midget Dan had it on the back of the jackets they were wearing.  If you're going to use it, reverse the gold and white.

Incredible and par for the course for that organization. That's always been a minor annoyance of mine when people insist on using the actual year a Super Bowl happens instead of the traditionally accepted procedure of using the season's year. I never thought an actual team would do it, though. Remarkable work the Stumblin' Dan Snyders.

Just for funzies google "1983 NFL champions" and see what happens. You will not see the Washington (Washington Football Team) come up.

What a disaster all around:

-Boring and generic logos

-mismatching home/road sets

-mono primary uniform?

-BFBS

The burgundy jersey is fine on its on but the fact it looks like it's gonna be worn with the same color pants and socks ruins the whole thing.

The BFBS jersey rivals the Rams' bone for the worst jersey in a league.

Wish the two helmet rule was still for throwbacks only as well.

Why are teams getting rid of TV numbers?

Televisions are now high definition and broadcasters don't need them as much.

I can't believe an NFL team would steal valor like this:

Quote

And in one of several references to the military, the stripes represent the military concept of "earning one's stripes."

Quote

Washington now has a new font that includes line breaks and indentations in the numbers, which is an assertive stencil that alludes to stylized military fonts. Inside the numbers, there is a perforated diamond texture, which is a nod to the diamond shape of DC's district boundary.

Quote

On the black uniforms, the lines that frame the players' last names on the back mirror the strong, bold lines of the "Commanders" primary logotype. They also feature the logo positioned in an authentic military nametape placement. One sleeve has the DC flag, representing the city. The other sleeve has the crest, showcasing that the Commanders are a team of leaders.

The black uniforms come with another more military reference; there are camo stripes, which were custom designed for the uniform, that represent an ownable DC narrative.

Quote

The "W" on the helmet includes slanted elements, which are inspired by military rank insignia. The numbers are also featured on the back of the helmet.

The black helmets feature the DC flag on the back of the helmet is what was inspired by the "follow-me" stripe on military helmets that was meant to help a group of forces know where their leader was on the battlefield.

Additionally, the numbers for the away jerseys now include a gradient design, which is the first of its kind in the league.

That and linemen don't wear sleeves anymore so there's no place to put them.

Unless everyone just went full Panthers to cram them on.

You really didn’t think the NFL would do something like this? Have you not been paying attention to their “Salute to Service” merchandise over the whole month of November every year?

Lifelong fan here. I realized a name change was inevitable years ago and accepted the fact that it will change at some point in the near future. There are better names than Commanders, and worse names than Commanders.

Now to the uniforms....

The burgundy jerseys are okay on their own and any updates to the uniforms years from now should be built around that. Solid B

As far as the rest. Why? Gawdammit why?  FAIL (though I already know those black jerseys are going to sell well locally)

Remember when someone posted that video of the players saying how clean the jersey was and how awesome they were? I’d bet my life they were saying that in response to the black jersey.

Truly amazing how every single thing about this unveiling sucks. Commanders is a solid D+/C- sports name and it somehow managed to be the best thing about this set. The burgundy uniform is the best jersey and it still sucks what with the weird number font and oversized word mark.

This is eerily similar to the Browns rebrand of a few years ago, when an NFL team steeped in tradition who have sucked for the better part of 20 years decide to change the one thing about them that didn’t suck. Only, with Danny Boy Mr. Snyder at the helm, he almost certainly doesn’t have the awareness or read of the room to fix the uniforms after 5 years.
